The One and Only Tea Room - Now Hanging in Babylon

Well folks, here we are, transported through time and space to the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.

Golden couches and the distressed chintz sofa are arranged on a terrace overlooking the Euphrates and, as we recline on the exquisitely-soft cushions eating peeled grapes, we can enjoy the warm fragrance of the gardens' many exotic blooms. The garden is tended by the indefatigable Mellors, with occasional help from the bishops, rabbis and any passing world leaders. Somewhere behind the terrace there is an aga and a priest's hole, with optional massage table.

Please come and join us for a celebratory drink and conversation ranging from the profound to the profoundly silly.

Just popped in to say Good Evening! Haven't been here in a few nights so trying to catch up with everyone.

Unis, Scout, CMOT - I hope you're all feeling better in different ways iyswim.

Amber - your tales of teenage pyjama exploits made me laugh. Hope the exams go well.

Tee - have you had any better luck with the early waking? I think Small Bean was nearly 3 when we used a gro-clock and it was pretty effective for a while. Less so now as he knows that if he pushes enough buttons the sun will come up and he can declare it morning.

oxeye · 23/05/2011 23:25

Sorry for all those I'll. It's a lemsip fest here too. Cousin and I dragged selves up and out. Oxboy has got the hang of deciding he's I'll. Retired to bed with a bucket Hmm

oxeye · 23/05/2011 23:26

Ill. Not I'll. Phones!

amberlight · 24/05/2011 07:01

Scarily different chemotherapy today. Might be ok, might react very badly to it.

::grabs Brew and heads for the priest hole::

mistlethrush · 24/05/2011 08:45

Hope everyone's feeling better soon or at least showing signs of improvement.

Mistlechick (not ill at the mo)(cast iron constitution mostly) has been sick so many times in the car he knows the feeling, wakes up and has time to bundle out of his room, stick his head round our door to announce that he's going to be sick, and make it into the bathroom in time. Was most impressed the first time he managed to do that aged 3. No doubt it will go downhill at some stage.

Gone in with no tie for school today - it didn't make it home after yoga. Visit to lost property on the cards this afternoon I think.

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 24/05/2011 09:14

Mistle, I had a very vivid dream last night that I visited you in Yorkshire (!). You had a huge kitchen with great dressers and a large enamel sink, and a scrubbed wooden table with benches to sit on. Mistlechick did look like Just William, but had red hair, a suntan and freckles. You suprised me by being blonde. Is any of this accurate?????

mistlethrush · 24/05/2011 09:37
Grin

Yorkshire (tick)
Kitchen - well its a decent size and does have the 'family' (dh's) dresser in - not huge - but significant - and there is a plain pine table (and chairs)

mistlechick - despite being smothered in factor 50, yes he does get a suntan - and yes he has got freckles, but not red haired (red hair and a suntan???)
Me - no, I've got dark brown hair, although it used to go blonde in the summer when I was a child - and I strangely have a self-image that has lighter hair than I actually do have which is peculiar.

If ever anyone is passing through on the way to Scotland or similar (or vice versa), please do let me know - very happy to be a stopping for lunch/tea and gamble round garden location. The gamble could be for tearoomers, offspring or dogs.

UniS · 24/05/2011 10:03

morning

May I have a large Brew and plate of marmite toast please.
Thank you

Oi- NMBs, put my toast down, it will not float. No, not through the window, I don't care if you have built a slide.....

OH, may I have another slice of toast please, and mellors, could you fish NMBs out the canal AGAIN.

mistlethrush · 24/05/2011 10:11

Unis, we'll have to get them to get their mops out again - there are little marmity footprints all over the place!

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 24/05/2011 10:39

I know, but he did manage red hair and a suntan.
Mmmmm, marmite!
Amber, a very respectful ((hug)).

Tee2072 · 24/05/2011 15:20

Afternoon Tearoom

Amber I hope you are OK. ::holds out hand to hold::

was at a very interesting marketing seminar this morning. MrTee took the day off so I could go. Included a speech by Gerald Ratner, if you know who that is. I didn't but was not in th UK when he made the blunder that cost him everything. He's come back now and his story is very interesting.

Hope everyone is feeling better!

amberlight · 24/05/2011 16:36

::goes to sleep on hand::

Well, that's number 5 done. Blood counts all over the place so that's not good but I'm hope and it's doable and I want to sleep. zzzzzz

amberlight · 24/05/2011 16:37

*hopeful - typing=rubbish grr

CMOTdibbler · 24/05/2011 16:44

Have a good sleep Amber.

DutchOma · 24/05/2011 16:51

Covers Amber gently with a magic blanket that makes it quite impossible to get up before she is thoroughly rested.

MaryBS · 24/05/2011 20:03

Adds a duvet for extra "weight" :)

amberlight · 24/05/2011 20:09

splendid. Thanks muchly. Ah, is this Mellors I see before me with the massage table? And the NMBs with a plate of twiglets? Anyone else want first go?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 24/05/2011 20:12

I'll eat the twiglets while you have a massage, Amber. Or possibly vice versa.

Shall we have some medieval Bolly Wine too?

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 24/05/2011 20:29

Bolly was around in medieval times? Who knew?

Here, Amber, I'll hold the plate so you can nibble while being massaged.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 24/05/2011 20:36

It's always seemed to me that Bolly is timeless, Tee.

OP posts:
ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 24/05/2011 20:37

Oh poo. I see what you mean. The spellchecker has substituted medieval for medicinal. Drat.

OP posts:
amberlight · 24/05/2011 20:43

Damn, that medieval bolly was excelent at only £10k a bottle...l

zzzzzzz

Tee2072 · 24/05/2011 20:44

Ahh, now I get it Maud!

Either way, seems to have helped.

::tiptoes out, turning down the lights, so Amber can sleep::

oxeye · 24/05/2011 21:45

I'll have some medieval medicinal Bolly too please

::holds out twiglets and Haynes manuals for Amber::
well done, one more done, so one less to do.....

::hands out mops to NMBs to wipe up footprints::

Actually rather distressingly I have just realised my slippers are stuck to the floor - a consequence of OxBoy and jelly for supper... quite yucky

Donki · 24/05/2011 22:09

Sod it!
The post office has lost our year 11s coursework.
I nearly had heart failure when I got the e-mail from the moderator asking where it was, and why hadn't she received it yet.

fortunately

  1. We have a certificate of posting
  2. Because I was doing everything for the first time, and paranoid about getting it wrong, I photocopied all the coursework before I sent it off...

I've almost recovered from the shock.
