The One and Only Tea Room - Now Hanging in Babylon

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 13/05/2011 23:57

Well folks, here we are, transported through time and space to the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.

Golden couches and the distressed chintz sofa are arranged on a terrace overlooking the Euphrates and, as we recline on the exquisitely-soft cushions eating peeled grapes, we can enjoy the warm fragrance of the gardens' many exotic blooms. The garden is tended by the indefatigable Mellors, with occasional help from the bishops, rabbis and any passing world leaders. Somewhere behind the terrace there is an aga and a priest's hole, with optional massage table.

Please come and join us for a celebratory drink and conversation ranging from the profound to the profoundly silly.

his pyjamas are indeed the sort that cover all, and yet they are so garish and so obviously nightwear that you can't miss a 6ft rugby player dressed in them in the middle of a busy station drop-off point. Blush

I've got the Wine going if anyone wants a glass? Mellors seems to be available for a little light massage. Just the thing after a day at Poleseden Lacey with dh. Trying not to think about next Tues so keeping busy.

Scout19075 · 21/05/2011 19:49

I will run out to the car or bin in my pjs. And I've been known to run round camp until lunch in my jammies. Blush

Donki · 21/05/2011 20:23

I need the wise advice of the tea room ladies. I am completely torn about the strike ballot......

I don't want to strike, but I do want to back the union negotiatiors......

What on earth do I do?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 21/05/2011 21:20

Eek. I don't know the answer, Donki, so I'll add my vacuous thoughts and wait for someone else to sort them out. It seems to me that voting yes will strength the negotiators' hand, because it will suggest that there's strong support for strike action but, then isn't it ::pious:: a bit dishonest to vote yes if one isn't actually intending to strike. Or maybe it isn't dishonest. Maybe it's tactics.

::Head explodes::

I've done a lot of gardening this afternoon and my back aches. Is Mellors free for a relaxing rubdown? Me, not him. Or then again ...

At least fine lad wears PJs, could have been just boxers... which I'm sure he looks fine in, but the old ladies would have tutted mightily.

Did he REALLY take PJs to a wild overnight party?

amberlight · 21/05/2011 21:38

UniS, er yes. I would mention the sleeping arrangements for 12 18 yr olds and two bedrooms but I won't.

Donki, I'm not sure. I'm a Union member myself and haven't a clue how to respond.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 21/05/2011 21:38

I find it rather reassuring that after a wild teenage party they all put their very respectable PJs on!

OP posts:
UniS · 21/05/2011 21:51

yep, kinda sweet to think of the boys trooping along the landing in PJs. Sure in my day it was sleep in your clothes in a sleeping bag if you were VERY organised and took one along, but wasn't cool to do so. begging a blanket was cooler...

LeLapinSecret · 21/05/2011 22:21

Just saying hello, really haven't had a chance to get on here the last few days and have only just managed to read back and catch up - now too exhausted after the last few days to put any thoughts in coherent form! But warm thoughts to you all, Scout and CMOT special emotional/physical recovery wishes to you, and special fairy-sleep-dust-magic wishes to all of us with somniacally-challenged small people.

G'night all.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 21/05/2011 23:41

Tea has promised to get there soon with some champagne. Until then, I am enjoying the on BBC4.

Oh what a scream, isn't this just too divine, he seems to have sent real Adnams beer on a horse instead my darlings. Oh well... a party on real beer! Isn't it just too funny? It would be simply too boring if we didn't wear our pinapple hats and shocking trousers, lets invite the prime minister - who is it today???!!!!???

mistlethrush · 22/05/2011 09:28

Maud - Mistlechick 'is' Just William - doesn't have the cap - but shirt appropriately half tucked in, socks at varying levels, somewhat lively hair, normally going at a run....

Scout - sorry you're having a bad time - thoughts with you and where they're needed

MaryBS · 22/05/2011 09:43

I'm confuzzled Confused

Tee2072 · 22/05/2011 13:32

Hi all.

Another less than stellar night. This too shall pass. Repeat as necessary.

I don't understand either Mary. Grin

purpleknittingmum · 22/05/2011 13:39

Afternoon ladies!

hug to all that need them xx

Well, waiting for my daughter to return from a sleepover. Hate her going to this girls house overnight, as she is never back for when we have said! Can't always say 'no' to her going though and she is best mates grrrr!

mistlethrush · 22/05/2011 13:56

how are the squares going pkm?

purpleknittingmum · 22/05/2011 14:24

Finished the latest batch last night mistlethrush and blocked them earlier and they are ready to get posted off!

mistlethrush · 22/05/2011 14:26

mine appear to be coming out sufficiently square not to really need blocking - will sort themselves out when they get added in I think. Basket weave pattern is nice though!

purpleknittingmum · 22/05/2011 14:36

Mine come out quite a bit smaller than 6 inches, but I pin them out on the ironing board and put a damp tea towel over them and give them a press. Never blocked in my life before I did these squares!

I like the basketweave one too! I did write down a heart on for last time but don't know where I have put it!

Scout19075 · 22/05/2011 20:51

Evening!

MrScout has said he's going to become a food nazi and start pushing the food more so, in the spirit of really trying to eat/eat more, may I offer the Biscuit tin around?

purpleknittingmum · 22/05/2011 21:10

nibbles biccies! Ta!!

teafortwo · 22/05/2011 21:15

On another thread I promised to bring champagne and when maud said it on this thread it sounded like a line from an Evelyn Waugh novel - so stuck to the theme Blush - sorry to have confuzid you all!!! Grin

Funnily enough it is very trendy to speak like an Evelyn Waugh character in Paris - EVERYTHING MUST be 'trop' 'top' and 'superb'! A popular clothes company has started advertising using 'I love' and 'I hate' - Just like the party invites in 'Vile Bodies' and I would not be surprised if Milk is invited to a party in a mental asylum given the numerous places she has been invited to party in!!!

oxeye · 22/05/2011 21:18

Evening all. Don't understand Tea's burblings Harvey Nics, perhaps the link which I didn't do, but it made me laugh

Sorry no sleep - won't have a Biscuit thanks, Scout, I have the opposite problem from you!

A bloke came into the local swimming pool in boxers instead of swim shorts - it was very eugh!! I'd have paid a lot for him to have jammy bottoms!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 22/05/2011 21:21

Oh yuk, Oxeye. Was that the public pool? Yuk yukerama.

CMOTdibbler · 22/05/2011 21:22

DS looks like just William too - although due to growth spurt his shorts are currently more like hot pants. And summer means short socks rather than knee length that are just dangling round his ankles.

It has been a long weekend ! And my mother is driving me mad. Ho hum.
