Tearoom 25 - Benvenute a Venezia!

1001 replies

thumbwitch · 08/04/2011 00:28

YOu find us this time in a glorious palazzo in Venice, near to St. Mark's square, and on the water. With gondolas and vaporetti in abundance to transport us around to the various sights etc.

The palazzo itself of course has marble floors and fabulous murano chandeliers but aside of that we have the usual distressed chintz comfy sofas, assorted animals, bishops in their corner, priesthole for emergencies and a single solitary aspidistra in a bomb-proof glass cage to protect it from the ravages of a certain Canadian.

All are welcome - drop by for a cuppa, a glass of something stronger and a chat and relax in the safe and kind surroundings here.

Cin cin! Wine

Oh thanks. I am really craving chess and toast ( happy to have it served with a side order of twig lets!) Grin

UniS · 14/04/2011 23:03

chess on toast coming your way. Aren't the pieces kinda crunchy? or is it more about teh black n white squares? the NMBs are working out how to make those by strategic shielding of the toast during cooking with teeny tiny fire blankets.

Of course this is taking a little longer to make than straight forward Cheese on toast, but hey, its teh tea room of requirement. Mellors trys very hard to please.

thumbwitch · 14/04/2011 23:36

loving the idea of chess on toast!

welcome K999 - join in the general melée any time, we mostly just talk about life here but with a generous sprinkling of bison, bishops and the NMBs (linked just above).

Jack - sorry to hear about your head - I bashed my forehead on the garden gate latch yesterday, never done that before - I have a graze and a bruise but thank goodness no headache. Rub some arnica on your head and some witch hazel on your temples.

Serp - fret not about taking Wriggle out and about, it won't have hurt her any and she has the ABs now so should start to get better soon. :)

UniS - I have a couple of friends here who have constantly snacking DC as well - they have both said at different times "I don't know what to do, he is constantly hungry and eating all the time!" It has crossed my mind that they could try saying "no" but they've probably tried that and it hasn't been well received...

I had a visit from another MNer yesterday - she's a Sydney girl (well, English but living there) and she brought her baby up to see me so we had a lovely day. It looks like we might be having another Sydney meet up soon - I like them. lots of Wine

MrThumb is thinking of bunking off work today and taking us to the Reptile Park - sounds like a good plan to me!

Sorry, following on from UniS's comment about lunches (I would choose similar track btw - and boy didn't seem fussy to me when we met) I must share a proud mummy moment (I don't normally, so allow me just the one, please!!! Grin)

My mother commented that mistlechick had eaten all his sandwiches, veg and fruit in his lunchbox yesterday - but left the chocolate mini rabbit Grin clearly things were just too exciting - but he knew what was important.

Hi K999 - and glad we didn't frighten you off earlier beans!

thumbwitch · 15/04/2011 00:09

well done MC! Shows that you have done a good job there, MT :)

OmShantiJacks · 15/04/2011 00:14

Grrrr. Not a good day today. Some minor but irritating RL hassles (why are people such grumps when it costs nothing to be friendly and smile??) and got pissed of with some posters on here (not, I hasten to add, in the Tea Room!) but I do wonder why some posters have to be such utter f*cking cows sometimes. Seriously. In any OP, the poster can, perforce, usually only give a partial picture of what is going on. No way could you type out all the ramifications of any given situation. So for some posters, naming no names although I'd really like to to make sweeping generalizations about someone else's professionalism and suggesting they need to pack in their jobs is a bit lot much. Angry

Welcome, K999, I see you made it over here :) - WineWineWine and more Wine, anyone?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 15/04/2011 00:17

::Offers Jack some Twiglet Surprise::

Have you been recruiting new tea roomers, Jack? Good for you.

::Wonders where Jack had been wandering::

thumbwitch · 15/04/2011 00:22

More Wine?

OP posts:
OmShantiJacks · 15/04/2011 00:25

I have been recruiting :o

And I wandered into AIBU. Big mistake. But really, why be such a really-bad-swearword to someone else???

Thumb, which thread were you on? The one I was on was deleted.

thumbwitch · 15/04/2011 00:37

oh ah, not the same one then. The one I was on was discussing what chiropractors/osteopaths actually do - someone seemed to have had a slightly dubious experience of one (even in my opinion!). The only person who bounced onto that thread with their customary scorn was DBennett though, another annoying person.Grin

OP posts:
OmShantiJacks · 15/04/2011 01:16

Oh god, no way I could go on a thread like that, I'd combust.

thumbwitch · 15/04/2011 01:39

it's ok, it didn't go as badly as you'd expect, just people giving their experiences with osteos/chiros (and DBennet who was pretty much ignored by everyone Grin)

OP posts:
Scout19075 · 15/04/2011 06:51

Jacks, I think I know the thread to which you refer and said poster starts with the same letter as me?

Tee2072 · 15/04/2011 08:03

Morning.

I swear, Jack, AIBU exists purely to let people be as mean and ugly as they can. I like to read it but only post to it when I myself am feeling mean and ugly.

From the 'that's not really helpful mother' file my mother said to me the other day 'surely you're starting to worry about LCT's lack of speech?!!'

'No,' I replied.

'Not at all?!?! Are you sure?!?!' Great shock in her voice.

'Mom, when I say to him "LCT, if you are done with breakfast, may I have your plate for the dishwasher please?" he brings me his plate and/or finishes breakfast and then brings me his plate. In what way should I be worried?'

She's flabbergasted. And, thank god, in Florida!

Sorry to go on. It's just really bothering me that she's so bothered! LCT hasn't read the development charts. He doesn't know he's suppose to be chattering away or something.

amberlight · 15/04/2011 08:17

'Morning all! Hi K999! Welcome!

Eek re children on ABs, mums with bumped heads etc.

:: puts out soothing Brew for those in need and some more chess on toast (though the tea room Bishops seem a little alarmed at the thought of small versions of them being eaten, I note) ::

NMBs to my mind have matured and now resemble the Wee Nac Mac Feegles from the Terry Pratchett series 4.bp.blogspot.com/_PxppH28ckkc/THGgVZVL0cI/AAAAAAAAAbA/Pd4FsOvgNQc/s1600/100_2528.JPG Grin

MT, nope, sense of smell is working ok. Tastebuds occasionally wander off, but they seem amenable to returning after a few days. Shall see if I can get some piccies of the bluebells later.

Tee, yup, children speak when they're ready, I found. Mine hardly said a word until he was 3.5 and since then we can't shut him up for love nor money. Grin

Enjoy those bluebells, Amber!

JM and Thumb, I have often wondered, what is the difference between a chiropractor and an osteopath? I have visited an osteopath; friends visits a chiropractor and it sounds very much the same.

Agree about AIBU; can be amusing but full of people who just want to share their inner vitriol, prejudice and hatred in a very Sun-reader sort of way. And anything about alternative medicine/religious education in schools really stirs them up.

Agree that children speak when they are ready - ignore!

Wriggle coughing a lot in the night but rather more wriggly than restful this morning, so hoping that they will not insist on admitting her into hospital this afternoon.

Actually, she is a fussy eater - or rather more of a non-eater, in that she will eat almost everything but can often not be bothered. I think it might be easier to insist on proper meals if you have a child who gets reliably hungry and likes eating. I am really trying atm to remember to offer snacks - her weight is 14k and falling. CMOTTiddler's outgrown jodhpurs are falling off her! (Wish I shared her eating habits.)

Tee2072 · 15/04/2011 08:46

Forgot to say welcome to K999! And now to Swallowedafly! Welcome! Mellors always knows what we need, so he'll be along in a minute with your perfect coffee.

LCT is 22 months. He has about 3 words. He had more but seems to have forgotten them, not surprising since he's been ill pretty much for the past year with recurring chest infections and possible asthma. But he understands everything. I just know one day he'll wake up and say 'Good Morning, Mama. May I have some milk now?' Grin

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 15/04/2011 08:47

Look - Mellors has just brought in the cafetiere and the large plate of whatever-it-is-Italians-typically-have-for-breakfast.

Mine lives upstairs! (But doesn't give unwanted advice.)

beanandspud · 15/04/2011 09:30

Just popped in for a coffee. Don't get me started on MIL... Her finest piece of advice was "Are you sure he's not walking yet? Have you tried him at it?". Have found the only way to deal with it is to smile sweetly and ignore.

Oh, those breakfast thingies are lovely, better go and do some work.

thumbwitch · 15/04/2011 09:48

When I au paired in Italy we had ultra-espresso for breakfast and I don't remember much else! The children had some kind of cereal, iirc - might have had toast or something, I actually can't remember! Fruit possibly. I know when I've holidayed in Italy, breakfast has usually been a vast selection of fruit or cold meats and cheese. France is a bit more obvious for breakfast!

Tee - ignore your dear mama. I'm sure she means well, but, y'know.

welcome to swallowedafly - I have seen you around elsewhere, I know, but I'm blowed if I can remember where! Blush Do you frequent the Feminist boards? I lurk there but rarely post (too scared most of the time)

Hello swallowedafly!

Have braved the supermarket. Got a pretty top Smile for a bargain price, and a nice faux-pearl necklace for £2.50! Wheeee!

Tomorrow, sneaking into a church that doesn't normally let me in. Could be adventurous. If they forget where the pitchforks and the boiling oil are, I could be alright Grin
