Tearoom 25 - Benvenute a Venezia!

YOu find us this time in a glorious palazzo in Venice, near to St. Mark's square, and on the water. With gondolas and vaporetti in abundance to transport us around to the various sights etc.

The palazzo itself of course has marble floors and fabulous murano chandeliers but aside of that we have the usual distressed chintz comfy sofas, assorted animals, bishops in their corner, priesthole for emergencies and a single solitary aspidistra in a bomb-proof glass cage to protect it from the ravages of a certain Canadian.

All are welcome - drop by for a cuppa, a glass of something stronger and a chat and relax in the safe and kind surroundings here.

Cin cin! Wine

Tee, TS is closing in at 35 inches (I'm about 5'5"/5'6" and MrScout is 6'5") and he only turned 18 months last week. It's an approximate, but was between 34.5" and 35". Shock

Poor LCT and poor Tee. Sad

I really need TS to have a bit of a nap before swimming or the changing room after will be impossible. He's in there chattering. Normally he goes right to sleep for his nap.

thumbwitch · 03/05/2011 12:38

UniS - have sent you a PM

Tee - poor LCT, hope he's over it soon.

I have no idea how tall miniThumb is but it isn't very - he hasn't really grown very much for a while now and I'm really hoping it's not because he's a bit short on his vitamin D Blush. He's on a kiddy multi-vit now, technically daily but mostly when we remember (most days, tbf). I know he is growing though because his jeans from last year are too short; his all-in-one PJs that I bought from Tesco last January actually fit his legs now (I had to do all sorts of weird cross-poppering before to shorten the legs on him)

Starting to count down til Sunday's flight now... Grin

TS was the only tot at swimming today so we had a one-on-one session. Grin

TheWestCoastLotus · 03/05/2011 16:17

Scout, is TS really 35"? Shock He's nearly as tall as JB! I think last I measured him he was around 38 or 39 inches, but that was a while ago [slacker mum].

We had a crap night - JB seems to be allergic to something and came out in hives all over his tummy and back yesterday. No idea what it could be, nothing is different [baffled]. And the really odd thing is the rash migrated from place to place. It cleared up on his tummy, went to his chest, and one cheek, and then his legs. Poor boo, it must be terribly itchy, we gave him lots of Benadryl (an OTC antihistamine) before bed-time, and he woke up at 01:30 scratching himself to bits. And of course he's oh-so-fond of taking any medication Hmm.

Sorry, have not read back but hope everyone's well or as well as can be. xxJM

Scout19075 · 03/05/2011 16:33

Not quite 35". I did go and remeasure the line and it's somewhere between 34" & 35". I've measured it several times over the last day or so. Am really going to try to get the HVs to measure him properly the next time I can get to a weigh clinic.

Poor JB. Sad

Tee, how's LCT?

Tee2072 · 03/05/2011 17:16

Back from GP after LCT's fever spiked to 103.8 F despite calpol/nurophen. He has a throat infection and a red ear. GP didn't listen to his chest which I only realized once we were half way home, but he has a broad spectrum antibiotic so if there is some lung stuff going on, that'll help.

WCL, sorry to hear about JB. I hope you can figure out what it is he's allergic to!

Scout, wow, he's tall! And I though LCT was tall!!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 03/05/2011 17:21

Eek to all these poorly boys.

How worrying - I no longer understand inches! Wriggle is 100cm and, before I lost her Red Book, was on the 8th centile (steeply up from the 2nd centile, where she spent her whole babyhood)

Tea, did I understand that you are coming to England? I would really love to meet up, with Oxeye - and everyone else, but only Oxeye has actually suggested it. I know that yu said where your parents live, but I am unfortunately not clever enough to understand the code. Is it anywhere near Wiltshire (which is where Wilton House is)?

I suggest (very selfishly) taking Oxboy and possibly GardenGirl put of school for a Thursday, as I can't do weekends, and, as a teacher, I feel that out-of-school experiences are always more valuable.

Wriggle has had an agonising day pondering Life and Death. Will explain more later and ask how you all dealt with the Big Questions with four-year olds.

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 03/05/2011 21:43

Didn't I sound selfish and self centered? Blush I would just love to meet up and can't think how.

I am also trying to get some story tapes in French for Wriggle and Amazon.fr thinks that 14 euros = £20. I am sure that somehow Tea and I could work out something cheaper - in spite of previous experience, which has unfortunately only worked in my favour. Hmm

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 03/05/2011 22:06

I am happy to meet anyone almost anywhere! There's also an idea afoot of a curry night when Tea is next in Londres.

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 03/05/2011 22:12

Sadly can't do Londres or night .... but am determined to meet up. I think I mentioned (on occasion of name change) that one of my best RL friends spotted me on MN - but just meeting her would be too easy. Am fantasising about Wilton House on a warm sunny day ...

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 03/05/2011 22:15

Wilton House sounds fab, but I think I would draw the line at Girl truanting from school.

Scout19075 · 03/05/2011 22:57

WestCoast, do you ever EastCoast it in late November/early December?

Scout19075 · 03/05/2011 22:59

Oh, WC, still no package. BUT stupid customs has decided to hold/tax a package from Mom that just contains chocolates and a homemade wreath she made for us for Easter. Angry

UniS · 03/05/2011 22:59

Evening all.
Have spent an evening with a RL tea room like crowd, Ver jolly, we even did a good deed for the day and collected a heap of books from my neighbour for eth cub scouts book sale. And of course went through removing teh ones we wished to read ourselves first. I gained a copy of Tom Browns School Days from 1912 in lovely binding.

So, I bring an armfull of books to re-stock teh tea room bookshelf. what are you reading now and what do you plan to read next?

I am half way through " Castle in the air" by Diana Wynne Jones and next will be...... probadly.... Inkheart by Cornelia Funke.

teafortwo · 03/05/2011 23:00

Hey - A meet up sounds 100% fab (albeit complicated - we aren't that close to you at all) unserp... let's throw some ideas around off thread (so I can tell you where I live while Blighty side) and see if we can sort something out... Milk is very keen on meeting Wriggle!

teafortwo · 03/05/2011 23:30

UNiS - I am drifting. I have several books I am dipping into but nothing that is REALLY holding my attention Sad

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 03/05/2011 23:35

I have surprised myself by enjoying The Ruby In The Smoke. Must go now and read another chapter or two ....

thumbwitch · 03/05/2011 23:45

Serpent - there is some discussion re a meet up nearer to you than London (I think) in the Other Place - do have a look-see! Same to the rest of you who haven't commented yet, just in case you've missed it. :)

Currently reading a book by the Mulgray Twins - Under Suspicion. read the first one (No suspicious Circumstances) on hols last week and now onto this. Quite good, really!

Curry sounds good to me. Or anything else, provided it's not too soon after any date where they're using me as a chemistry experiment (next 24 May)

Scout19075 · 04/05/2011 12:27

HCA at my cardiac clinic today was the same one that's usually in my bloods clinic on Fridays. She's the one who LOVES TS. However, she made a very unhelpful comment regarding TS's "only" status and the much older nurse made an unhelpful comment regarding TS being a boy. ARGH! Not normally so sensitive but still grumpy so nothing being taken the right/appropriate way.

I haven't been able to read a book in the proper way since TS was born. I miss books. Sad

teafortwo · 04/05/2011 12:48

Ohhh oooouch - what a day this is turning out to be... bleeeaaaugh!!!

I am preparing chips. It REALLY feels like we deserve them, today.

RS - HANG ON - This time I suspect that I CANNOT blame my illiterate postman for the late opening of the Easter card. I have just this moment clicked that I put it on Milk's secret pile of birthday cards [what an error emotion] realising it was a card and presuming it was to join the growing tower, tbh at the time quite complexed who it might be from, I think this is two mysteries solved in one!!! Of course, it was not a birthday card but an Easter card - how could I have not put two and two together???!!!???

I have put it on the mantlepiece to be opened tonight!
Milk will be very very happy...

mistlethrush · 04/05/2011 14:46

Sorry, haven't caught up properly... but we are still in Venice I see!!!

Survived the week - MiL STILL trying to get a sleepover for mistlechick despite me voicing concerns about it - but managed to get away with it. Found some fossils on the beach, weather wonderful, managed to read some books!!!
