My boy has just turned 3 and looks likely to stay an only child.

The only older only child I know well is a girl, and she thrives on it fantastically - but she is calm, wistful, gentle and spends hours colouring in and cutting out paper clothes for her dolls.

But that is so far removed from my boy - who is boisterous, confident, physical, crazy, can't sit still for a minute - that I find it impossible to imagine what life might be like when he's older.

So collective wisdom on this board Smile, please share all about your school-age+ only boys, for example, how have their personalities evolved? what activities are they interested in? how do they occupy themselves when friends have gone home? how is your relationship with them? how sociable are they? what are they like with younger children/animals? what are their aspirations for their futures etc etc etc

Thank you in advance for your responses!

Hi my DS is an only and is now just 6...he is

"boisterous, confident, physical, crazy, can't sit still for a minute" - oh same as yours SNAP!!!

ENJOY your only, love him, nurture him, guide him, teach him...he's your son so what if he's boisterous, confident, physical, crazy....to me that are fantastic qualities. Smile

PS - I too thought like you when I got to the 3yrs stage but now I enjoy these qualities

PPS - Girls are soooooooooooooooooooooo very different!!!!!

hi, my ds is 8, his dad left us when he was one.

He is full of energy, loves physical activity, which is fine (swimming, biking) but I am crap at playing footie which is his current passion ! He is very happy, lots of lovely friends at school, loves art, cubs, is really very sociable.

he can get bored when we are at home at weekends and i have chores to do and sometimes complains he has got nothing to do. but he loves more than anything when I give him 100% attention, whether going out for lunch, playing chess or just watching a dvd together. it's hard as i am working full time so that can be an issue sometimes.

he absolutely adores little kids, babies in particular..... and sometimes has asked if he can have a sibling, which makes me sad because i would love to have more..... but essentially he seems very well adjusted to life without siblings and just mum to entertain him !

My friends son is 8 and he is the personification of an energetic and adventurous litle boy. He has lots of friends...he is creative and dramatic...(think dressing up nd entertaining us with a one man comedy show)

He loves his karate class and making models...he's fab!
