Tea Room the Twentieth: The Greek Island

asmallbunchofflowers · 04/12/2010 21:47

Welcome to the twentieth (yes, really) Tea Room.

We find ourselves on a sun-kissed Greek island, where our whitewashed, blue-shuttered house nestles in the dappled shade of a gnarled old pine tree. In the olive grove, Mellors the gardener/handyman/factotum is tending the tea room menagerie of horses, camels, bison and guinea-pigs, recently joined by some recalcitrant old donkeys. The distressed chintz sofa, aga and cardboard cut-out of George Clooney have survived the relocation from the south of France and the aspidistra has pride of place on the mantelpiece.

Come in, put your feet up and join in the conversation. It may not make sense, but that's not important. What matters is the lovely people here and the chance simply to relax.

D'oh! Incense makes me pass out, too. Avoid high Mass if I can, or be sure to sit by an open window.

In RL SiL (the cool one) is about to make mulled wine using my homemade mulled wine kit.

Must wrap MrScout's presents and set up BabyScout's sack and presents from GrandmomScout and GrandadScout.

DingDongMaryBSonHigh · 24/12/2010 20:37

re: incense, I do hope so... we do usually, although I am not sure if there'll be a thurifer, it tends to just smoke quietly in a corner. My vicar can do "180s" though, which are always entertaining!

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 24/12/2010 20:39

It was the thurifer wot did for our parishioner!

ChildofIsis · 24/12/2010 20:40

Just discovered this thread.
I'm thrilled to find other one-child posters.

I'll lurk for a bit if you don't mind.
It all seems such a friendly community.

ScoutingForSanta · 24/12/2010 20:42

Hello ChildofIsis! Glass of mulled wine?

GROAN

Seriously, I need a swift kick to go wrap the last couple of pieces.

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 24/12/2010 20:43

Hello Child of Isis. Would you like some mulled cider and a mince pie or slice of ultra chocolate Yule log while you sit and lurk read?

There's a whole one child topic if you want to read more.

ScoutingForSanta · 24/12/2010 20:52

What time does Santa arrive?

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 24/12/2010 20:57

He's very smart and always arrives once SmallGirl is soundly asleep. Sometimes he arrives just in the nick of time in the early morning.

JackSawMamaKissingSantaClaus · 24/12/2010 21:02

Hi ChildOfIsis, and Merry Christmas! Do join in, we're a little wacky on occasion but very friendly! Don't lurk, jump in and post. How old us your DC?

I'm Jacksmama and my DS is nearly three. I live on the West Coast of Canada so it's mid-day here.

Sorry I've been AWOL, dear everyone, the last few days have been nuts. Why, oh why did I commit to working this week?? Next year, someone give me a swift kick up the backside if I so much as think about it. JM will be off work from the solstice on, for at least a week. It's madness trying to work a full day and get the house ready for Christmas, even a small one like ours.
Nothing is even wrapped yet. And I'm waiting for the stupid moving men to deliver the furniture my parents shipped us from Toronto (why this week... I have no idea.) They came yesterday, in a 70 foot moving truck, which, surprising absolutely no one except them, would not fit down the roadway into our townhouse complex. Can we say, a little lack of advance planning?? They rang my mum before picking up the pieces is Toronto to ask about access and parking. When they were given the address here my parents (and I!!!) told them we live in a townhouse complex. Not question one was asked about accessing us. So they had to take the stuff away again and rent a smaller truck (for which we are expected to pay!!) and are expected any minute. The company are going to get an extremely stiff letter of complaint from me next week. I think it's ridiculous that we have to pay extra for their lack of planning.

Ok, I'm done ranting. For the moment.
I've not had chance to read back, only caught that UnSerpent has a massive cold :( (sending warm hugs), how is everyone else?
Merry Christmas Eve!
xxJM

UniS · 24/12/2010 21:45

poor ole serpent. round here ist not just lack of planning that is leaving people with no oil, its people who ordered it two weeks ago that are running out as even the mini tanker couldn't get down into teh village till today.
No idea how much we have left as teh watchman sensor has gone dodgy and its indicating full at any time the temp is 3 or less. so that all teh time currently. Last time we had a more believable reading we were on 50 percent, so trust we are still Ok.... I bet the gas runs out half way through cooking dinner tho. We do have a 2nd bottle, but changing them will be a PITA.

Hi to new lurkers, HO HO HO. Happy christmas etc.

Not going to midnight service, I was only one of teh family willing to go outdoors again and friend down teh road has decided not to go. Don't fancy a cold ( very cold) dark ( very dark) icy walk to church ( a mile n a bit each way) on my own. So, shalln't go. aim to make family service tomorrow in next village along instead.

Santa has been, boys stocking is stuffed.

night all. Happy Christmas.

ScoutingForSanta · 24/12/2010 21:52

Why haven't I had mulled wine in RL before?

ScoutingForSanta · 24/12/2010 22:15
CMOTdibbler · 24/12/2010 22:48

Mulled wine is a great thing Scout ! I have been drinking a mug of it through present wrapping.
Before we had a car, we used to have to spend several days over christmas with the ILs. It was Too Much generally

DS and I had a lovely day - panto, lunch in Costa and then back to his friends. Her mum and I got to spend a lovely afternoon just chatting while they played/giggled/got married/exchanged clothes.

ScoutingForSanta · 24/12/2010 22:56

Good night, Tea Room and Tea Room Ladies.

Good night, Santa. I've tried to be a good girl this year and if I could have one little present I would be grateful.

Merry Christmas, Ladies. Hope you have a peaceful and joy filled day.

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 25/12/2010 00:54

Merry Christmas everyone.

DingDongMaryBSonHigh · 25/12/2010 01:24

amberlight · 25/12/2010 08:04

amberlight · 25/12/2010 08:07

PS Hi ChildofIsis! Welcome! Have a sit down on the comfy distressed chintz sofa and we can bring you the beverage of your desires.
Anyone else for one?

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 25/12/2010 11:05

Oh yes please. Do we have a festive Buck's Fizz?

amberlight · 25/12/2010 13:29

We do!

In fact, we have an entire feast of things, by the look of it, and festive songs to go with it Xmas Smile

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 25/12/2010 15:06

Yippee!

JackSawMamaKissingSantaClaus · 25/12/2010 16:04

Merry Christmas everyone!

I hope everyone is as well as possible, and having a great day!

CMOTdibbler · 25/12/2010 16:24

Merry Christmas all - I am drinking Baileys coffee in RL (my one unit of alcohol for the day) while all is peaceful in the house.

DH v pleased with his Spitfire cufflinks (suitably detailed) and Dremel tool. Was taking a punt on going off list for him there.

UniS · 25/12/2010 19:24

Happy Christmas all.

Hope santa left the right things under your tree.

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 25/12/2010 20:48

Evening all. The day has gone well here.
