Tea Room the Twentieth: The Greek Island

asmallbunchofflowers · 04/12/2010 21:47

Welcome to the twentieth (yes, really) Tea Room.

We find ourselves on a sun-kissed Greek island, where our whitewashed, blue-shuttered house nestles in the dappled shade of a gnarled old pine tree. In the olive grove, Mellors the gardener/handyman/factotum is tending the tea room menagerie of horses, camels, bison and guinea-pigs, recently joined by some recalcitrant old donkeys. The distressed chintz sofa, aga and cardboard cut-out of George Clooney have survived the relocation from the south of France and the aspidistra has pride of place on the mantelpiece.

Come in, put your feet up and join in the conversation. It may not make sense, but that's not important. What matters is the lovely people here and the chance simply to relax.

re knee- OUCH

CMOT what teh hell - a poo picking set!!!! VERY large cardboard box.

nursery disco, why not, bet they play bob teh builders "big fish little fish cardboard box" and "mama mia".

Am just a little pished. DH is walking baby sitter home ( she not very old and its dark round our way at night, also snowing). Have had tres jolly evening at friends house. Indoor fireworks- it may say light singly on a flame proof surface and retire to at least one meter... but they are kinda amusing en masse on a bit of wood in middle of dining table. OR strapped to a clockwork reindeer.

Boy din;t gte his last day at preschool- snow forcered closure... so we went to teh play ground and he wrote some christmas cards and delieverd them by sledge.

JackSawMamaKissingSantaClaus · 18/12/2010 01:03

Yes please to analgesic... err, Bolly. It should nicely augment the red wine anaesthetic I've been imbibing.

Saaaayyy... what's this?

I wonder if it's loaded?

**

Oops... apparently it was. I appear to have blastedthe aspidistra to smithereens. And a part of the mantelpiece. Sorry all... I'll try to fix the mantel tomorrow when I'm sober. Blush

Xmas Grin

Arrgh re MRI knee thingy. Not the best of experiences.

Today I have to install a new printer, shop, wrap pressies, deliver many leaflets to doors, do housework, put up tree and decs and collapse in a small heap. Not in that order. I shall be asking for volunteers.

ScoutingForSanta · 18/12/2010 09:51

Who knew little boys had so much poo in them?!

Rough night with BabyScout. Think he's caught my cold/sore throat. Cue much crying and struggling. Ended up managing to get him to sleep on me and transferring him to bed. Woke up this morning covered/soaked, so emergency bath at 7:30 a.m. Thinking the (mini) box of raisins yesterday was NOT a good idea (I didn't realize he had a whole box until it was too late). He's in much better form now.

CMOTdibbler · 18/12/2010 09:59

Morning all - loads of snow here today, so we are snowed in. DH muttering about how if we had a Land Rover we'd be ok (he has fallen in love with the Discovery 4 which is out of budget). Friends in Merthyr Tydfil have well over a foot of snow.

Hearty breakfast anyone ?

UniS · 18/12/2010 14:30

just a jolly 2 inches of snow here, fine for sledging, looks very nice. DHs concert cancelled but pub dinner still on, now preceded by carol singing.

Xmas Grin

CMOT, you're snowed in?? Got enough food? Good thing it's the weekend, you can stay in and enjoy the excuse not to do anything.

CMOTdibbler · 18/12/2010 16:04

Plenty of food ! Have taken ds out sledging on the green, and he helped shovel snow. Alas, dh had just finished doing the drive when it started again, and within 2 hours you wouldn't have known it had been done at all

amberlight · 18/12/2010 16:27

Plenty of snow here, that's for sure. Garden currently contains various teenagers having a snowball fight.

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 18/12/2010 16:31

Loadsa snow here.

SmallGirl wants a sledge. What chance Amazon (a) has one and (b) can deliver before Christmas/the thaw?

DingDongMaryBSonHigh · 18/12/2010 19:04

We have sledges but no snow... or rather a thin layer of iced up snow left from Wed night!

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 18/12/2010 19:07

Well, we have a lovely new sledge winging its way from Ebay. Fingers crossed.

I thought you'd have lots of snow, Mary, as your weather (in my experience) come straight from Siberia!

DingDongMaryBSonHigh · 18/12/2010 19:13

We seem to be in a pocket of the country where it snows all around us, but we rarely get a lot of snow! Which really winds up the kids!

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 18/12/2010 19:42

6 inches of snow apparently here. Sledge quite easy - cut plastic fertilizer drum/container in half and attach binder twine. Wriggle loved the idea of snow but found the reality sadly cold. Cue lots of whining.

teafortwo · 18/12/2010 19:46

Thick, thick snow here too...

Please tell me it will be gone in time for me to travel next week..

STOMPS FEET AT SKY -

I waaaaaannnna goooooo home for Christmas.... booo hoooo!!!!

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 18/12/2010 19:47

Hmm. That's a bit Isabella Beeton in the London Borough of Grunge, though. First catch your fertiliser drum! Anyway, have bought sledge and declined SmallGirl's request for snow goggles as being overkill.

Would anyone like some mulled wine?

teafortwo · 18/12/2010 19:52

Has anyone-else had a sudden urge to buy smallgirl the movie to enjoy on dvd this Christmas?

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 18/12/2010 20:09

Zut alors, Tea. There is beaucoup de neige ici and plusieurs closures des aeroports. When do you travel?

Do you mean a dvd for SmallGirl or one of her (don't encourage her - she's enough of an exhibitionist Xmas Confused as it is)? She's currently sambaing around the room, Strictly stylee.

teafortwo · 18/12/2010 20:27

A movie of her of course!!!!

We should travel next week.

One of my school gate mates was supposed to go today... but didn't.

We are going by boat. I should have paid the five euros more for a seat on the ice-breaker Xmas Grin

I wonder if Mellors might row us over? Unfortunately this won't really fit with my current Jude Law image of him... he seems a bit skinny to row all that way Xmas Confused!!!

P.S When are we supposed to use the bear face??? I don't geddit????

teafortwo · 18/12/2010 20:28

Bear?????????????????

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 18/12/2010 20:36

Mellors looks like Jude Law? Not in my universe, he doesn't.

teafortwo · 18/12/2010 20:45

It all started when I saw the new "Alfie" not a touch on the Caine one but... Jude did make my heart flutter just a little...

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 18/12/2010 20:50

I think this just shows how ancient I am, Tea. To me, Mr Law looks as if he should still be in the sixth form.

ScoutingForSanta · 18/12/2010 20:58

Six inches of fabulous sledding-worthy and snowman building snow. We never get it either, Mary, but this afternoon we did and it's fantastic!

Donki · 18/12/2010 21:09

Evening all!

No snow here, the Young Donk would be sad - but has currently got the feverish coughy lurg that is going around and has flopped on the sofa all day - and then flopped into bed.

I think that he is hoping for enough to build an igloo with tomorrow...

I am really rather glad that it didn't snow today as I have done a lot of Christmas shopping whilst DH (Donki's Husband) supervised the YD. DH is also spluttering muchly...
