Tea Room the Twentieth: The Greek Island

asmallbunchofflowers · 04/12/2010 21:47

Welcome to the twentieth (yes, really) Tea Room.

We find ourselves on a sun-kissed Greek island, where our whitewashed, blue-shuttered house nestles in the dappled shade of a gnarled old pine tree. In the olive grove, Mellors the gardener/handyman/factotum is tending the tea room menagerie of horses, camels, bison and guinea-pigs, recently joined by some recalcitrant old donkeys. The distressed chintz sofa, aga and cardboard cut-out of George Clooney have survived the relocation from the south of France and the aspidistra has pride of place on the mantelpiece.

Come in, put your feet up and join in the conversation. It may not make sense, but that's not important. What matters is the lovely people here and the chance simply to relax.

Good morning all (morning here).
Sorry I missed the sleepover. Busy busy busy yesterday. Ditto today.

((((HUGS)))) to all, I figure someone's going to need one some time so I'm pre-empting. xxJM

ScoutingForSanta · 16/12/2010 19:39

Good morning, JM!

amber, where did your shopping end up?

Mary, are you getting the same snow I am?

Opinion question: We're on our way to the inlaws tomorrow for two weeks of festive fun (blurgh). The house is very child/baby friendly as SiL with five lives down the street and they are regularly over/visiting. There is a toy and book corner in the living room. Obviously Bun (and probably Ted) is going, but would you take other books/toys? I know there will be Christmas toys, but that's not for another week.... I'm torn between what he knows and different toys are exciting.

teafortwo · 16/12/2010 19:43

hmmmmmmmmmmm... is it winoclock yet?

teafortwo · 16/12/2010 19:49

scout - we take a couple of books and one or two hand sized toys to Grandparents... that is all. We always use public transport so work on the principle less is more when packing... Milk has never suffered for it.

ScoutingForSanta · 16/12/2010 19:57

I'll leave it with the nappy bag toys -- an FP truck, his mobile phone and a couple of books. One of his favorite toys is his abacus (strange boy, I know!) and they have one down there so will just leave it with what I already carry with me.

teafortwo · 16/12/2010 20:33

Did I tell you that I went to the mn Paris lunch? It all ended up with a shopping trip to Hermes to buy a tie for a husband...

ScoutingForSanta · 16/12/2010 20:39

Were they all French?

tea, are you coming to Scoutshire this festive season?

teafortwo · 16/12/2010 20:41

NO - all English and one... American.

yes!!! Do you want to do a meetup?

ScoutingForSanta · 16/12/2010 20:43

Oooh, stay away from those Americans....they're scary people. Wink

I'll send you a message and we can plan if you'd like.

teafortwo · 16/12/2010 20:45

Funny thing was... I knew them all, all ready!

Paris and mn is very small...

ScoutingForSanta · 16/12/2010 20:47

I often wonder, when talking to other moms out and about, how many of them MN.

teafortwo · 16/12/2010 20:47

The American is a good friend of mine who has one child because of circumstances and I am always trying to get her in here.

ScoutingForSanta · 16/12/2010 20:51

There could be two of us -- we could take over the tea room. Wink

I really must stop on-line window shopping and get packing.

UniS · 16/12/2010 21:19

Hows the window shopping going scout?? Do you still have snow drifting down.

Has it reached any one else yet? I'm hoping we get some, but it might just be rain. HOWEVER dh has emailed himself some work and arranged that he is not driver in the car share tomorrow. on teh ground that he can get in and out teh village by bike easier than by car if its snowy. He's also talking about a worst case of 18 inch of snow at weekend and his choir concert being cancelled. which would be annoying for him after 3 months rehearsing.

Boy has now finished at one of his preschools, the one he has been at from the start. They had a nice relaxed afternoon with the bigger kids helping to take down artwork and enjoying ripping lining paper off the wall.

Anyone fancy watching Heathers tonight?

ScoutingForSanta · 16/12/2010 21:23

Ooooh, I love Heathers!

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 16/12/2010 21:26

Bonsoir a tous.

A Paris meet-up ending at Hermes? Maybe we could have a tea room meet-up ending at the 99p Store? Xmas Wink

May I say, Scout, how much I enjoyed last night's sleepover. We should have them more often.

Is there any mulled wine left? I have done something terrible to my hand and it weally, weally hurts, so I need some anaesthetic.

ScoutingForSanta · 16/12/2010 21:29

Yes, sleepover definitely fun. Grin

Yes, it's still snowing here. And yes, still online window shopping. Plan for departure changed so no need to stop browsing to crack on with boring jobs like taking the trash out, etc.

What have you done, small?

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 16/12/2010 21:34

I wish I knew. I strained something in it (I think) a few weeks ago and it got better. Then I leant my not inconsiderable weight on it two days ago as I got out of the bath, something went ping and it's been getting worse ever since. Oh woe is me.

Is Heathers any good then? It's another film that's passed me by. I saw Ferris Bueller's Day Off for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Xmas Blush

ScoutingForSanta · 16/12/2010 21:40

Heathers is a bit darker but classic Christian Slater/Winnona Ryder. Christian Slater is quite yummy. Blush

Is anyone else having problems with the other tea room this evening? I have pictures to post for my parents and I can't get on. Sad

Due to have lunch in ye ol uni town tomorrow with my friend. Am very much looking forward to it. I need a lunch with a friend.

ScoutingForSanta · 16/12/2010 22:01

Wahoo, other place working again. Pictures for family posted. Grin

amberlight · 16/12/2010 22:07

ooo, mulled wine! Just the thing for a freezing evening! And for dodgy hands, too.

Donki · 16/12/2010 22:23

Mulled wine?!
Just the way to celebrate the end of term :)

Donki · 16/12/2010 22:29

Thanks Scout!

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 16/12/2010 22:32

End of term? Are you not at school tomorrow? Wa-hay! (Did you see what I did there?)

Perhaps I've had too much mulled wine. Xmas Blush

UniS · 16/12/2010 22:49

maybe a just a little to much. Why not try some mulled cider to see if that helps. It has apples in, must be healthy.

Heathers is a cool film. some fab one liners.I've watched about 1/3 of it tonight on you tube, will finish it another night.

Busy weekend in RL. see you on teh other side.

Unless of course we are snowed in and unable to leave the house. about 1cm so far.
