Tea Room the Twentieth: The Greek Island

asmallbunchofflowers · 04/12/2010 21:47

Welcome to the twentieth (yes, really) Tea Room.

We find ourselves on a sun-kissed Greek island, where our whitewashed, blue-shuttered house nestles in the dappled shade of a gnarled old pine tree. In the olive grove, Mellors the gardener/handyman/factotum is tending the tea room menagerie of horses, camels, bison and guinea-pigs, recently joined by some recalcitrant old donkeys. The distressed chintz sofa, aga and cardboard cut-out of George Clooney have survived the relocation from the south of France and the aspidistra has pride of place on the mantelpiece.

Come in, put your feet up and join in the conversation. It may not make sense, but that's not important. What matters is the lovely people here and the chance simply to relax.

Do you have an open fire? Could we make smores?

ScoutingForSanta · 15/12/2010 21:22

I don't, but we can. Tis a Harry Potter house, with anything I want in it. Even real s'more making supplies.

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 15/12/2010 21:23

Fabulous! What else shall I bring?

ScoutingForSanta · 15/12/2010 21:24

Any snacks you want. I'll provide the drink -- soft and not so soft. Might want to bring a pillow, we don't have many here.

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 15/12/2010 21:32

Ok. I'll bring chocolate brownies and flapjacks with a squidgy apricot and date centre.

Is your house draughty? Ours is. I think I'll wear my Bridget Jones-style fleecy pyjamas as it's so very cold tonight.

ScoutingForSanta · 15/12/2010 21:36

Nom nom nom.

It's not too bad by other people's standards, but I'm always cold. It's a newish house (seven years old -- we're first owners) so well insulated. I always wear my flannel jamas and a fuzzy socks and sweatshirt. BabyScout is in a fleece onsie with a sleeveless vest underneath.

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 15/12/2010 21:44

Sleepover style at The Scout Hut

ScoutingForSanta · 15/12/2010 21:47

WAHOO!

Bring your flashlight so we can tell ghost stories. I have trays we can use to go sledding if it snows/flurries/frosts during the night.

Donki · 15/12/2010 21:48

Oooh! A sleepover!
How exciting!

Sadly I will have to give it a miss - I have a science quiz to prepare for my SEN year 10 class...

Still, I like the creative side of preparation, and you can do some fun things with Smartboard software.

The weather forecast for Saturday is scarey - "heavy snow" followed by light snow on Sunday.

I hope that I manage to get my last minute shopping done Blush

I wish I were more organised. And coherent.

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 15/12/2010 21:49

I don't know any ghost stories but will look for a book, or search online!

ScoutingForSanta · 15/12/2010 21:52

How about DVDs and popcorn?

Donki, we can weblink you into the sleepover. Grin

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 15/12/2010 22:08

Can we have Bridget Jones' Diary? I've been watching clips on YT and have decided that I need to see it all again. And what about some vintage Muppets?

Do you have Skype, Donki?

Donki · 15/12/2010 22:28

Web cam is not working sadly.

I recommend my favourite ghost story.
"The ghost of Canterville Chase" by Oscar Wilde.

I usually don't like ghost stories - but I have loved this since I was a foal.

UniS · 15/12/2010 22:32

wooow,a sleepover. can I come.
I'll bring tortilla chips and chocolate sauce to dip them in. and sausages to make sausage sandwiches . Can we watch the breakfast club on DVD??

thumbplumpuddingwitch · 15/12/2010 22:34

Oo - a sleepover! Can't do it, am already awake for the day, but will be there in spirit.

Serpent - agree totally with UniS - we had a school hymnbook in Junior School and At (or In) the name of Jesus was a regular, with stonking chords.
Morning has Broken = a favourite
All things Bright and Beautiful
Prayer of St. Francis Assisi
Lord of the Dance for sure
Eternal Father was a must for Boys Brigaders (tis their anthem) - I love it
Jerusalem for sure
I vow to thee my country
Praise my Lord the King of Heaven - another stonking tune!
Dear Lord and Father of Mankind
Love Divine - Welsh tune, can't remember the name (as usual!)
Also love Immortal, Invisible - brilliant!

All of those were in my school hymnbook, I think, with the possible exception of Eternal Father.

Who was offered the piano - TAKE IT! Definitely worth it, so long as it's in decent nick and no cracks in it. Have you had a chance to play it in situ? I would do that first before you pay to have it moved and re-tuned.

manamana - do-doo-d'do do - manamana - do-doo-do doo (repeat as necessary)

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 15/12/2010 22:40

Oooh, I've never seen The Breakfast Club.

Donki · 15/12/2010 22:46

He who would valiant be
Dear Lord and Father of Mankind (lovely!)

I vow to thee my country - a bit gung ho for my taste.

Donki · 15/12/2010 22:46

Must stop procrastinating, and finish work.

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 15/12/2010 22:48
UniS · 15/12/2010 22:52

Now theres an idea, popping over to check out said piano. good thinking bat woman.

Breakfast club coming up...

thumbplumpuddingwitch · 15/12/2010 22:53

oh yes to He Who Would Valiant Be! Definitely had that one.

I love the tune of I vow to thee my country - tis fabulous. My other favourite tune is for And Can It Be (quite like the words too!)

UniS · 15/12/2010 22:53

maybe this is is better if you HAVE seen the film tho not so chronological tho.

Donki · 15/12/2010 23:23

I like the tune of "I vow to thee my Country" - it's the words I have problems with.

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 15/12/2010 23:26

Yes, I feel the same about Onward Christian Soldiers.

I loved Four Minutes Breakfast Club, having seen little clips of it over the year.

Donki · 15/12/2010 23:31

SB Thankyou for the "smore" (I think - what is it? [thick emoticon])
