Tea Room the Twentieth: The Greek Island

asmallbunchofflowers · 04/12/2010 21:47

Welcome to the twentieth (yes, really) Tea Room.

We find ourselves on a sun-kissed Greek island, where our whitewashed, blue-shuttered house nestles in the dappled shade of a gnarled old pine tree. In the olive grove, Mellors the gardener/handyman/factotum is tending the tea room menagerie of horses, camels, bison and guinea-pigs, recently joined by some recalcitrant old donkeys. The distressed chintz sofa, aga and cardboard cut-out of George Clooney have survived the relocation from the south of France and the aspidistra has pride of place on the mantelpiece.

Come in, put your feet up and join in the conversation. It may not make sense, but that's not important. What matters is the lovely people here and the chance simply to relax.

I was a bit Shock about the pin too: sticking it in the child doesn't seem to be advised, but why else you would need a pin is difficult to fanthom.

The thing is: as someone who has to get G to cry in order for her to open her mouth, when your child is as ill as she is at the mo, and you know that the medicine will make her feel a bit better, you are ready to do things that you would never normally do. Not that I use a pin; but I do have to adopt a very firm hold on G and not be put off by her tears and protests. We both hate it, but I'm not risking her having temperatures of 39+ because she won't take her medicine.

Ha! have just been and read that thread - no one is suggesting using a pin - they're saying "pin the child down" - as in one parent hold 'em tight, the other one feed the meds. I couldn't do this - DH is far too crap and gives up - can't hold DS against his will for love nor money, it's very fucking annoying, scuse my swearing there.

JackSawMamaKissingSantaClaus · 12/12/2010 03:15

I'm just getting more and more confused here, please take pity on the furriner and tell, WHAT is a pom bear???

BTW, I'm usually the one who gets to wrestle with JB if forcing medicine into him is required. Gah.

OXEYE - sorry for shouting, but I want you to know I've just bought a gorgeous plaid shirt. It's so fab. Pic to follow.

pom bears
Xmas Grin

amberlight · 12/12/2010 07:16

Medicine - getting child to wrap themselves in a duvet and take a spoonful of it whilst wiggling their toes frantically at the same time can be funny, and it often worked for ds and some of his friends.

Pom bears? I learn something new every day! [fbear]

Cooked breakfast available...

MaryBS · 12/12/2010 09:32

With DS I put it in melted chocolate, but don't tell him it contains his meds. I say to him, I need you to try out a new chocolate recipe I'm using, and can you let me know if its any good. He then tries it and pronounces it good! Just giving the meds and a piece of chocolate NEVER worked!

Feeling SHATTERED this morning, very busy day yesterday.

Was in Peterborough for a party in the afternoon. The English Defence League had a protest march on too, and I've NEVER seen such a heavy police presence! Then last night was a help for heroes concert at church, and I ended up helping out as they were so short of helpers! Hmm.

UniS · 12/12/2010 19:31

arn't pom bears the crisp that pretend to be all healthy and good to gibe children BUT actually have more salt in than a pack of hula hoops??

evening all.
Amber, do get off the aga dear, your starting to singe.

choir practise was odd, first time in the choir stalls at church and I found it very odd with basses behind me and sops in front, to try and hold my own line as an alto. - also didn't have one of teh 2 strong altos I've been standing between.

UniS · 12/12/2010 19:38

beg pardon- its more salt than monster munch OR walkers ready salted . TWICE the salt of kettle chips lightly salted.

almost the same as hula hoops - but pack size is different so maths is required.

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 12/12/2010 20:02

Pom bears are one of my guilty pleasures. [fbear]

Mulled cider, anyone?

UniS · 12/12/2010 20:37

go on then. justa large one.

Scout19075 · 12/12/2010 20:39

(Knock on wood) BabyScout likes medicine. He doesn't like nasal spray or the snot-sucker, but anything oral he laps up.

CMOTdibbler · 12/12/2010 21:22

DS likes to suck medicine out of a syringe. But when he was little and on antibiotics for months, we just had to pin him down and administer them to get it over with.

DS and I went swimming this afternoon - me swimming is rather an interesting sight now !

Day two of feeling like poo. Do I make a fool of myself and call the GP tomorrow? Not because I feel like sh!t and think they can do anything (they can't) but because the hospital wants me to have blood tests whenever I get sick. I just had blood taken Friday (monthly tests).... I'm tired of feeling like a human pin cushion!

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 12/12/2010 21:48

I think you are justified, Scout, in ringing the GP tomorrow. But how serious could it be if you skipped the blood tests?

Scout19075 · 12/12/2010 21:50

Supposedly whenever I get sick (even if just a cold or sore throat or whatever) they want to check my immune system is functioning as it should be. The meds surpress my immune system apparently.

CMOTdibbler · 12/12/2010 21:53

Nothing beneficial for my hand/wrist, but helps to strengthen my arm generally, and exercise my elbow and shoulder.

I might leave it another day Scout - if you were sick because of the meds, your monthly tests would have shown it (which I guess is what they are worried about)

Scout19075 · 12/12/2010 21:55

You're probably right, CMOT. And doctor calls me Monday/Tuesday if there's a problem with my results. She's never called yet (whew!).

I wish I could swim. Like so many things I wish I could do....

Scout19075 · 12/12/2010 22:29

Oh dear....

oxeye · 12/12/2010 23:07

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 12/12/2010 23:19

oxeye · 12/12/2010 23:31

oxeye · 12/12/2010 23:32

oh, have looked at snackcheck, can't do 7 steps at this stage, it sounds too much like sort of betterment training, which I guess it is
can you help me, what should I get for the snack boxes if not a pom bear?? [fbear]
