Tea Room the Eighteenth - the Cricket Pavilion

Welcome one and all to our new abode - a lovely old-fashioned Cricket Pavilion, with decks outdoors and a rather lovely Members' Bar, complete with deep-seated leather comfy chairs and any drink you care to mention.

Our outdoor amenities include the well-tended cricket pitch, kept immaculate by Mellors, our multi-purpose man; a couple of tennis courts round the back for those who prefer the Wimbledon scene; and another multi-purpose pitch (can be used for hosting Fine Lad-style rugby matches, or Little Kickers' football, or the occasional All Comers' Lacrosse Tournament.

Bishops abound, mostly snoozing in the leather armchairs; there are sundry animals around - guineapigs and bison mostly - and of course the Naked Mohawk Babies, fetchingly attired in cricket whites (most unusual for them!)

The cricket pavilion tea room is open to all - those with only one child who need a safe haven predominate but having more than one child is fine - come in, have an egg'n'cress sandwich and a glass of Pimms!

*other fillings and beverages also available.

Scout, that present is pure genius! :o

Scout19075 · 23/09/2010 08:31

I knew about the Canadian snow. I have a rl friend from home who lives there now and she's had snow. Last week, I think.

Thanks Mary. Blush

I think BabyScout grew overnight. And he's definitely getting brave.

amberlight · 23/09/2010 13:38

Bleeping operation isn't until the bleeping 15th October Angry

Who's for Cricket Soup? (no real crickets were harmed during the production of this virtual product...)

thumbwitch · 23/09/2010 13:45

Cricket soup sounds fab! With or without hopping things Wink

Hmm, 15th October - that's a fair way away still. You could try relieving his problems with diet, if he's at all amenable to the idea - although he's probably a bit picky, hey...

Is BabyScout having a growth spurt then? miniThumb used to do that - one day his vests would fit fine, the next day I'd be struggling with them. He hasn't done one for a while though.

BabyScout just seems bigger/heavier. Some times he does that to me. I'll get him weighed next week (I try to do it the week of his month birthday). I'm wondering how they'll call me for his one-year assessment (we don't have an eight-month one in our area) and they do it open clinic style. He's definitely getting more and more brave/confident letting go of whatever he's holding onto. And you can see he really wants to stand up without pulling himself up. Keeps trying and keeps failing but not deterred!

Bought my missing ingredient today so can finish mixing up my next batch tonight. Grin

It's dreary here today -- anyone for some creamy hot chocolate?

thumbwitch · 23/09/2010 14:32

Always! - mmmm mmmm, thank you.

Ha ha ha, ok, I see why you're confused, thumb! :o No, we didn't have an early snowfall here in the Vancouver area... when I posted my FB status update about having played in the snow last Friday, it was because my parents and I drove up to the snow line on Mt. Baker. (One of the four active volcanoes in the Pacific North West: Baker, Rainier, St. Helens (of 1986 renown) and Hood.) Mt. Baker is 12,000 ft high (around 4000 metres) and the snow line is accessible by car - in the summer, you can go hiking up there. So that's why the snow. But I did hear something about snow in Alberta recently... that's the next province over from us, on the east side of the Rockies. They get crazy weather, it can snow there in July. Ugh.

How's everyone today? Early start for me, gangbuster day at the office, followed by yoga. I don't think tonight's class ill be quite as tough as Tuesday's, as it's a different instructor, but that's good, because I still hurt from Tuesday.

Blush Could I please show off some shoes I bought? Here they are. I wore them to work Tuesday and everyone commented :o

thumbwitch · 23/09/2010 14:47

Oh good - not me going loopy then! Yes, I also heard it yesterday from another MNer who is indeed in Alberta.
You must have bought the last pair of those shoes, the website says the ones I am trying to view are no longer available and shows a bunch of others; you might still be able to see them if your browser cached the page but I can't. :(

I must, I must, I must get back into doing some exercise before I put on any more lard. Am disgusted at myself but seem to be utterly incapable of stopping with the chocolate and red wine, although I am starting to get pain in the large joint of my left big toe, suggesting gout (FGS!!) - which, unfortunately, also precludes me doing violent exercise DVDs. I think I'm going to have to work out how I can take miniThumb out on a bike so I can start cycling again. A couple of mums from my Thursday playgroup are doing regular cycles so it could be good to join them.

Wow! Splendid shoes!

(Yup, dh is on a very low fat diet, on which he has already lost nearly 2 stone in just under 3 weeks. He's just so exhausted though, and because we run our own business it means I'm having to look after him and me and ds and run most of the business single handed in the midst of a recession when everyone needs paying and everyone needs me to be a Perfect Boss.
I want to run away. Apparently there's nothing in my contract that allows me that opportunity).

Scout19075 · 23/09/2010 18:59

They are impressive, JBM. I could never pull them off.

Having a very downer day regarding only one baby and am very envious of everyone around me getting preggers and/or about to burst (just had another announcement from someone who has one BabyScout's age -- that's three I know born within six weeks of BabyScout who will soon have a sibling). I know I can't for another 16 months and we decided no more because of the risks, but still very envious. Someone slap me and tell me I don't want another one.

teafortwo · 23/09/2010 19:15

JM - WOW WOW WOW What VERY fun shoes!!!

Scout - Ouch... Now close your eyes and think of the bad bits of birth and nappies and noise and sore boobs and vom and sleepless nights and cost and being poorly and other bad bad things... now open your eyes and look at your lovely perfect little family and see how green the grass is for you. x x x x

Hope this helps... Sad (smile]...

On account of a Nancy Mitford binge I am really fancying some wide leg, high waisted very lady like trousers but am not sure how sensible this is. I started a thread but fear I have been snubbed by S&B...

teafortwo · 23/09/2010 19:16

Smile - just to show I can do it!!!

JBsmama · 23/09/2010 19:22

LOL tea. You're funny :)

I've just had a Hmm moment at work - did a demonstration of a stretch for a patient and then looked down and saw my zipper was open Blush

Scout19075 · 23/09/2010 19:42

Hope you don't think I'm begrudging my friends their babies (especially the friends about to pop as both couples have been trying for years to get pregnant). I'm just sad.

Off to research my medicine -- I'm making dinner and realized I forgot to take my once-a-week-on-a-Wednesday-night medicine last night. Shoot!

CMOTdibbler · 23/09/2010 20:00

Have a hug Scout - it just makes you wobble sometimes doesn't it.

Those trousers sound lovely Tea - would look appalling on me (I go all leg and no body), but fab on you.

I want those shoes JBM they are totally lush.

I think DH needs lots of high energy, low fat food Amber - time to get carbtastic.

Am now sporting a lovely purple cast - all looks good underneath, and it comes off in 3 weeks.

I am the proud possesor of a lovely cape now - warm, with a hood, and on trend. V unusual for me

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 23/09/2010 20:11

Hugs from me too, Scout. As well as all the things that Tea mentions, remind yourself that another pregnancy might put your health in jeopardy and BabyScout and HubbyScout both need you to be fir, well and enjoying life.

Those shoes are indeed lovely. I love all kinds of Mary-Janes (which was an early theme of the one child topic, as I remember it).

Cmot - A propos your injury, I've been meaning for ages to say get some front-fastening bras. They were invaluable when I dislocated my thumb and meant I could be self-sufficient in bra fastening and unfastening. Grin

I have a large sherry in front of me. Would anyone like one too?

JBsmama · 23/09/2010 20:14
ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 23/09/2010 20:17

Just be careful not to scuff those zany remarkable shoes, JBM!

Scout19075 · 23/09/2010 20:18

Grrr, I can't find anything about missed doses....

CMOTdibbler · 23/09/2010 20:21

I did find a front fastening bra (a near impossible task), but as I can't grip anything with my left hand at all - the fingers don't work - so I couldn't hold the edges together. Thank heaven for the M&S secret support vests which have a proper bra built in.

Sherry would be lovely. Am in a quandry - do I attempt to endure my brothers wedding sober, but pain free, or drink and forgo the paunkillers ?

Scout19075 · 23/09/2010 20:24

I used to have front-fastening bras because for years the only ones I could get to fit were training bras for teens which were all front-fastening. Confused

Very jealous you can pull those shoes off, JMB! I don't even think they'd make my size!!! (I have the smallest feet ever, in addition to the flatest chest.)

Ooohh, CMOT, a cape! Pictures? I quite fancy a swing coat but can't justify one since I'm not going back to work.

Just looked at BabyScout's 3D scan pictures (which I keep in my Filofax) and am, yet again, amazed at how much he still looks like those pictures (25 weeks cooking, I think he was) and how much he looks like his being born pictures even though he's nearly 11 months.

Sleeping with the gloves last night really made a difference for today, but hands starting to hurt/ache again. ARGH.

I am a mess -- someone should just put me out to pasture.

CMOTdibbler · 23/09/2010 20:31

Get the gloves on again Scout - it's going to take some treating. What are you putting on them in the day ? The neutrogena one that is like ointment is v good

Cape is this one in camel - I thought black would be a bit witchy

Scout19075 · 23/09/2010 20:32

Bloody useless web!!! ARGH!

Yes, I KNOW I can take my medicine tonight because it's only one day from my missed dose. No, I am NOT stupid enough to double up on medicine because I know that's bad. I just want to know if it means my day is now Thursday instead of Wednesday?!?!

Really, world wide web, is the question so hard to answer?!?!?

It appears that it is.

ARGH!

UniS · 23/09/2010 21:03

chocolate makes all things better.

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 23/09/2010 21:12

I have a friend who has gout - quite extraordinarily painful. Don't neglect it.

I am writing lessons for tomorrow, but with teh TV on in the background. There is a program on food, where they are inviting us to be shocked that sausages may contain connective tissue, skin and mechanically recovered meat. I was wondering what other people (obviously not the vegetarians among us) feel about this - I think that if we are going to kill an animal, then we must eat every part of it. To throw away half its body is actually more wrong than to eat it. Whether we should kill it at all is another matter.
