Tea Room the Eighteenth - the Cricket Pavilion

Welcome one and all to our new abode - a lovely old-fashioned Cricket Pavilion, with decks outdoors and a rather lovely Members' Bar, complete with deep-seated leather comfy chairs and any drink you care to mention.

Our outdoor amenities include the well-tended cricket pitch, kept immaculate by Mellors, our multi-purpose man; a couple of tennis courts round the back for those who prefer the Wimbledon scene; and another multi-purpose pitch (can be used for hosting Fine Lad-style rugby matches, or Little Kickers' football, or the occasional All Comers' Lacrosse Tournament.

Bishops abound, mostly snoozing in the leather armchairs; there are sundry animals around - guineapigs and bison mostly - and of course the Naked Mohawk Babies, fetchingly attired in cricket whites (most unusual for them!)

The cricket pavilion tea room is open to all - those with only one child who need a safe haven predominate but having more than one child is fine - come in, have an egg'n'cress sandwich and a glass of Pimms!

*other fillings and beverages also available.

D'oh -- I hadn't seen last night's yet. lol

Scout19075 · 05/10/2010 21:07

How was Brownies tonight, Small?

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 05/10/2010 21:10

The ex-Home Secretary's demise was the first episode of this series, I think.

Brownies was OK. I just find the knowledge that I can never have a night off without cancelling the meeting rather oppressive.

Scout19075 · 05/10/2010 21:12

Do you not have a uniformed Tawny Owl?

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 05/10/2010 21:15

No, that is why I'm a prisoner. I'm the only warranted leader. There are some unit helpers, but none of them are willing to do the LQ. So the buck stops with me every time. Ho hum.

Scout19075 · 05/10/2010 21:20

I'll admit, I'm worried about next school year. Our Unit Guider retires at the end of this year. While there are more than just me as ass't, I'm the only one with the leader qualification, not just ass't leader. And at least one Tuesday a month I have Seniors, so have to leave Guides in the hands of the others....

AandO · 05/10/2010 21:54

Hellooooo!

Haven't been in for several days, how're things going with everyone?

So, Tea, thank you thank you thank you! Smile. I got your parcel! It's a lovely feeling to get a parcel. I will take it on my trip, thanks Smile.

Small and Cmot - I sent you fb messages asking for Oxeyes email address. She okayed you passing it on to me so that I can contact her about sending on her parcel!

Well, all drama around here. Lots of stress. Mostly to do with renting out my house. Will stress me out to write it, so I'll leave it at that. Also, while stressed and on the phone LittleO stripped naking, ran around the house laughing and then did a poo on the kitchen chair Shock Shock. I sent him to bed without stories, I really didn't know what to do. So I have been cleaning.

I leave in a few days! 4 days! Starting to feel a bit excited.

How is everyone?

AandO · 05/10/2010 22:00

Why down with regards to middle age Small?

Cmot - Are you off work with your hand? I keep on meaning to ask and then forget Grin.

UniS · 05/10/2010 22:32

LO all.
quick pop in, we have guests. Boy is loving having his cousins here to play with / fight with.

Boo hiss to marys gippy tum, hope tests are conclusive of something or other and you can find a solution.

Hurrah for the priest hole. God bless all who sail in her.

might go to beach tomorrow. DH fancies taking DN&Ns crabbing.

thumbwitch · 05/10/2010 22:36

A&O - Shock regarding littleO! Naughty boy. miniThumb rather likes doing "naked baby" around the house but he (so far) hasn't made any deposits anywhere he shouldn't have.
And Wooh! to leaving in 4 days (despite other Ishoos Which We Won't Mention) :)

Small - have several comforting pats on the shoulder and a large bucket glass of Bolly with your twiglet surprise.

Scout - hurrah for taking the evening off and the headache receding! (hint: maybe the headache was more relieved by you not going to Guides than the babyswimming...)

I watched Spooks several times in the UK but it never grabbed me in the way the pathology shows do (more my thing) so I didn't really get into it. I do know who Harry is though and am also Shock that he poisoned the former HOme secretary (was it a Geoffrey Howe-alike? that would be mildly less Shock)

AandO - I am glad you liked your parcel. X It was a pleasure choosing something for you.

All bad yesterday has been resolved today!!! Hurray!!!

oxeye · 06/10/2010 00:28

Small, I am sorry you are feeling not like you- can we help?

Loving Spooks, hvae done so from day one, but still can't quite believe Adam is dead, even though he keeps cropping on in other shows - it's like David Tennant, saw the advert for his new Single Dad and just thought NOOOOOO

AandO I sent you a message Smile

Catitainahatita · 06/10/2010 03:46

Hello all: I hope those of you suffering from physical ailments are feeling bette.
I'm just sticking my head in to say hello. 24 October is now just 19 days away; I fear my head will explode. But I am nearly done.

I gather there are parcels winging back an forth across the waves/clouds whatever. I can only offer a limited range of Mexican goodies; but am happy to oblige anyone with any particular request.

Scout19075 · 06/10/2010 09:26

After days and days of BabyScout fighting his morning nap, which he desperately needs, he finally stopped fighting and is in sleepland. YAY!!

teafortwo · 06/10/2010 11:46

YAY - Scout-iiiieee fab fab fab news

Where is that lovely small???? Seriously - I look forward to having the confidence, experience and at oneness with the World that my dh and his mates who are all middle aged seem to have magically acquired on passing 40ish. I feel like a headless chicken compared to their tbh pretty sexy middle aged knowingness of course my freinds who went to posh private schools have alomst magically had this since they left nappies but that is not the point--.

I got my hair cut today. I like it "swish swish" - I am now sporting a huge fringe that will go perfectly with a pair of tweedy trousers I spied in Mango... .

P.S - is it possible to be addicted to Apple Crumble...??? I think I am!

mistlethrush · 06/10/2010 12:00

Tea - I'm glad the gloom has lifted! And Envy at the "swish swish" and huge fringe -I havn't had a fringe since I was about 13 and had my hair cut really short (looked great to start with, then decided to do its own thing so I started growing it out) - just too much volume, and it would never stick down. Similarly my hair never goes "swish swish" - if I'm lucky it goes wobble wobble.... if its windy it just inflates Grin

Scout - can you encourage some of the other assistants to sort their leaders certificate out during the year - preferably a couple of them - then they won't feel the pressure so much either??? Naps are really good - still like the odd weekend afternoon when the quiet time turns into complete silence rather than reading (although he's now reading his books to himself properly which is also fab!)

Spicy tomato and pumpkin soup with lewd rolls anyone?

Scout19075 · 06/10/2010 12:38

Swish-swish is good. I have fringe. Always have. I'm one that needs it. Even when my hair was boy-short I had fringe. I have never, however, been a smack-head.

Someone had a LOVELY nap. And he's just eaten me out of house at home for his lunch. Seriously. Is it normal for an eleven month old to get through almost half a sandwich, plus other stuff? He quite likes his toasted sandwiches.

Heard an old wives tale the other day (for just boys, I think) -- that at the age of three, if you measure them and multiple their height by two that's how tall they'll be when they finish growing. Anyone else heard that?

MT, I would, but I can't. My one friend has always said she's happy being an assistant -- to turn up, help where she's needed, but not be in-charge. The other is still working on her ass't leader qualification and, bless her, is a bit airy. For the Seniors I'm the only adult and am technically a "leader in training" as I do the Seniors Program Module.

Ooo, David Tenant -- I quite like him.

tea, apple crumble is YUMMY!

Small, do you have any (older) Young Leaders who can help take the burden?

oxeye · 06/10/2010 14:32

Tea, glad your day is better and your hair swishy. I am envious too. My hair just goes lank hang. But I might get it cut anyway

Yes, scout, I waited all through the twos to measure Oxboy on his birthday to double him up.... and forgot Grin but I do believe it's true

Catita glad you are doing well, now run back to that database

to all

Scout19075 · 06/10/2010 15:55

What's green and glittery?

amberlight · 06/10/2010 16:04

Am I too late for soup and a lewd roll? Three meetings so far today including people from Australia, a load of Council people and my new social worker. I think I gave the correct information to each meeting, but it could be that they are all staring at the info meant for the next person...(!)
I am truly tired. One more meeting to go today. Then a big conference tomorrow but with a splendid friend/supporter. I may be asleep.

MaryBS · 06/10/2010 16:05

Green glitter?

mistlethrush · 06/10/2010 16:17

Scout - eating - yes, mistlechick has always been able to put away a startling amount of food. Went to an Italian restaurant a few weeks ago (first time we'd been out 'en famile' for 18mo due to budgetary restrictions) we all had 'adult' sized (hand thrown) pizzas - the ones that are a bit bigger than the large plate you get handed. Mistlechick ate 3/4 of his ham and pineapple one before deciding he'd had enough. He then managed to squeeze in 3 huge scoops of chocolate, strawberry and vanilla icecream....

And at the weekend he often has 3 breakfasts...

Green and glitery - baby scout after doing some craft activities?

I'm not sure the height thing is going to work for mistlechick though - I don't think that would result in him being particularly tall - as he had dropped to a more 'normal' height for his age. However, he's back towards the top of the range again now - one of the tallest boys in the year despite having an April birthday so some boys being 7 months older than him....

teafortwo · 06/10/2010 18:00

The tweedy trousers were dry clean only so picked a lil something up from Zara instead... now I am waiting for Beer so I can do a fashion show!!! Grin

thumbwitch · 06/10/2010 18:58

oo, if that 3yo thing is true, miniThumb is going to be a midget unless he has a growth spurt very soon - he's still on the small side! Fingers crossed it's an old wives' tale.

Scout - I found it varied enormously with miniT - some days he would put away huge amounts and others choose to subsist on a few crumbs and air. Still does, occasionally (but not often now).

Green and glittery - emerald? Is that glittery or sparkly? how about a glitter-covered christmas tree? Or have you been doing home-made Christmas cards already and both of you got covered in green glitter?

Tea - haircut sounds fab - mine is more like MT's and oxeye's (I know you're wondering how but really, it is), being incredibly fine but curlyish - so it does both lank and flyaway really well, depending on weather conditions. A fringe is a Really Bad Idea for me, as is short hair (needs the weight to stay down)

Amber - hope you have a truly restful sleep tonight (I know it's only afternoon at the mo) to get over today - and I'm sure you will have given them all the right papers. Lots of support vibes coming your way for tomorrow.

The clue is in the new pictures on the other site. It's BabyScout, who decided that Mommy needed to match. I am now the proud owner of a glittery fish picture and a paint covered baby. Green seemed to be his color of choice, as my jeans will attest to. They are covered and I do mean COVERED. Lots of the other chavastic moms were panicking at the state of my jeans and I just said "It's messy play, you should expect it and wear old or dirty clothes like I have." These are people that have been going for at least a month or two and know what it's all about strip the babies to their nappies and let them get on with the messy activities. Everything they use washes out, and clothes can be washed, just like babies and mommies and daddies. Drives me potty!

Off to make some dinner.....
