what does it cost to send my child to a private nursery?

It would be for five days a week, 9 - 5 .
What is the kind of amount I would expect to pay each month at a private nursery?

The amount you pay depends on where you live, other factors can be the age of the child and how many children are at the nursery. Ds has been to 3 nurseries the first was approx £90 a week, second £485 a month and third £100 a week now £96 a week for holiday club. hth

In my area it costs £800 per month.

£731 pcm for 0 - 2 yrs
£613 pcm for 3 - 5 yrs

We are in Sheffield and day nurseries range from £25 a day to £32 a day. The cost does not reflect te best nurseries bizarrely though. Friend pays £31 a day, has to take al own food, etc. but is not happy with it - has just withdrawn her child infact. However we pay £26.50 day, including all meals, and it is fantastic.

I pay £700 a month in the South West. (I actually only use 1.5 days a week, but that's the full time cost.)

I pay £27.50 a day for my ds (3.9yrs) and £32.50 per day for my dd (8mths). That is a standard rate around Central Scotland I believe. I moved my dd to a chilminder as it was MUCH cheaper... only £25 per day. Ds is 3 so gets his Nursery vouvhers from the goverment so we get money off of him. They are only in childcare 2 days a week or we could NEVER afford it.

where we live in central/east london private nurseries start at about £50/day & just go up & up..... (to about £80/day i think ). we are very lucky that ds goes to a sure start nursery which is £21/day (a bit more for under 2s).

In Stoke its about £25 per day. I pay £28 but that is becasue its part of a prep school.

We pay (I think) about 630 a month for dd1 (who is 2) and 700 a month for dd2 (who is 6 months) in Cambridge. About the going rate - but more than my salary

I live in essex and my friend pays £30.00 a day for her 7 month old.. And has to pay even if he doesn;t go aswell.

Milward - depends on the age of the child. The ratio of adult to child changes which is why the price is high if the child is under 2.

1:3 for babies
1:5 for 2 to 3 yr olds
1:8 for preschoolers

That's the ratios at ds's Nursery. And that price doesn't include their food!

Thanks for the info toothache. Just seems so much money - childcare is expensive but compared to what people earn it just seems so much - just working to pay the childcare. This must happen alot.

I pay £37 a day. Dd has a full-time place. This month is a five week one - we have paid £825. I commute 70 miles a day. So with increasing oil prices, it looks like unlikely that I shall be able to afford to keep my job

I also have to pay for the 7 weeks that I have her out of nursery when I am on annual leave!

Thank you milward We were doing our sums this weekend - it's cost me £360 a month to keep my car on the road and going to work. I love my job, but is it worth this?

DS's charges 28 pounds per complete day (8-6), including lunch, tea and snacks. I'm very happy with it.

Once they are 3 you can get the early years grant subsidy - be sure to ask the nursery whether the price includes this or not. And you can get tax credits for nursery care, and have £50 of your salary (you and/or your DH) each week paid in vouchers each week which are free of tax and NI - so it all adds up.

What about guilt, worry and stress? I sent ds to nursery five mornings a week from 12 months to 2 yrs. I wish I hadn't now. The job was rubbish and ds was miserable. After nursery fees I probably managed a takehome of £50 per week.

I pay £980 per month for 5 days a week. Their full-time hours are 8-6. That does include weekly sport and music session too.

I usd to pay £1,045 per month for an under 2. that was from 7.30am to 6.30pm (though dd rarely went that early)

That's staggering! You must be in London?
