Anyone know of a Nursery that does not teach Gender Stuff - No 'Non Binary Staff"?

Hi all.

I am struggling to find a nursery for my 1 1/2 year old that doesn't teach gender stuff. I keep meeting 'they/them' staff every time I visit. I am a gender critical feminist and do not want my child exposed to it.

Does anyone know of a nursery that doesn't push this stuff. I am based in Cardiff.

Chill out babe.

I’ve never heard of a nursery teaching anything more than phonics and numbers!

NerrSnerr · 03/10/2025 11:20

There must be nurseries somewhere that don’t have non binary staff- I’m about an hour away and the three local nurseries to me don’t have any non binary staff.

Whatever your views your child will come into contact with trans people- when out and about, primary school (other children, parents and/ or teachers) and doing different activities.

there was no trans education for my children at nursery.

SeamstressBethany · 03/10/2025 12:35

Thanks for your feedback. Sure I am aware my kid will come in to contact with trans and non binary stuff it's just my preference that he learns that there are only 2 genders :)

Calm thyself. You can’t catch it. If your child turns out to identify as anything other than one of the 2 sexes, what will you do?

throwaway20262025 · 03/10/2025 12:38

Even if you find a nursery without NB staff, they could well employ them down the line. Is your plan to whip your child out of nursery/school any time a trans or NB member of staff starts working there or comes out as such?

I think you'd be very unlikely to find somewhere that openly says they won't hire those people, or that they'd fire someone who came out as trans or NB (and rightly so).

Two sexes.

Interesting first post.
No nurseries are pushing "gender stuff".
it would be illegal to refuse to employ some for being non binary.

PixieandMe · 03/10/2025 12:43

This can't be real.

One of my son's best friends at school transitioned while they were at secondary school together. Very popular student, had the schools full support. No dramas.

What are you going to do if and when that happens then, OP?

I would have to disagree with that.

Just found a nursery that doesn't talk about gender at all!

Honestly I would change your priorities with what you look for in a nursery.

I couldn’t give a damn what a staff member identifies as - I doubt they’re giving 1 year olds lessons on gender identities. As long as said staff member is caring and will look after them safe and in an engaging environment what does it matter?

you won’t have control in who they hire later down the line anyway. Focus on the nursery rather than people’s identities

Trans is different to Non Binary. Non Binary is not real.

Give them a hug and tell him he is a boy :)

I think you're doing the right thing

Complet · 03/10/2025 12:50

I don’t think that comes up in the nursery curriculum in England. Welsh children must be very advanced for their age!

It is absolutely illegal to refuse to recruit someone based on what they identify as. Also, it doesn't matter what they identify as as long as your child is cared for.
No nurseries will be pushing any kind of gender debate. They're pre-school kids who don't care. Oh and non binary is absolutely real.

Children absolutely 'catch' it. It's a social contagion.

That's true about it being illegal. I spoke to a nursery worker this morning (and to be fair she was very nice) but had the they/them badge on. She said they do use 'They' pronouns for her and she thought it was important for 'any children that were non-binary'... they are under 3. Madness

Okay so simply replace trans with non binary in my post, then.

Your child will meet all kinds of people in life.

You're absolutely right! He certainly will. I just think it's important to tell children the truth and to me the truth is that there are only 2 sexes.

Hilarious that you had to add the bracketed line.

Good wind up, OP.

So to clarify @SeamstressBethany you want a nursery where there are no non binary staff hired - not one where they don’t teach “gender stuff”. I would love to see where on the curriculum that you have seen gender stuff being taught. My child is 2 months younger than yours and is learning how to use a spoon 🤣 I highly doubt that any children at 1.5 have any understanding of what the they/them badge means but appreciate if this is your view and you don’t want your child being around non binary for the next 2-3 years until they enter school (unless you home school) then fair enough - it’s your perrogatice. But nursery’s aren’t teaching about gender
