C section/breastfeeding and Bedside Crib/Co-Sleeper (help)

Hi I was wondering if anyone had any advice on the best Bedside Crib/Co-Sleeper for people who have had a c section and also plan on breastfeeding?
i have a king size divan base with 4 draws from floor to top of the mattress is about 70cm
I do like the look of
Chicco Next2Me Dream
Tutti Bambini CoZee
SnuzPod 4
I'm 5ft 10 and hubby is 6ft 4 so I suspect we will be having a tall and heavy baby we were both 9lbs at birth
I have also been reading some people struggled with a beside sleeper after a c-section as a bedside crib made it trickier to get out of bed easily after a c-section?

I wouldn’t base your choice of a cot on the first few days after a section only, think of all the months after. Unless you are unlucky it’s only a couple of days that it’s tough to sit up and the other parent can bring you the baby when he or she wakes up.
Neither of my babies would ever sleep in the cot ever so although we did have next to me it was completely irrelevant.

Sayhellotothesun1 · 21/02/2023 14:41

I got a halo bassinet. It is as great as it swung away from the bed so I could get out normally and it also is higher than the next to me so easier to lift baby out. Loved it! Btw my DH got out of bed and lifted baby over to me to feed for the first 4 weeks as I did find stretching over to lift painful.

Hi thanks for responding could i ask what you used to put them to sleep in?

we was looking at the bedside cribs for help with breastfeeding, we don't have much space at the side of our beds and we only live in a 1 bed property, I have looked into space saving cots I could put one of these at the end of my bed but if having c section I may struggle?

Hi thanks for responding, i have seen this but my husband was a bit unsure about how sturdy it would be and then the long legs as we don't have much space at the side of our beds more at the bottom of bed

Mine coslept, so much easier for breastfeeding. Advice changes but 24 years ago it was considered safer as the baby's heart is stimulated by yours or something akin to that (assuming no alcohol, medications etc of course)

SnKcampbell · 21/02/2023 18:01

Thanks for responding, right now im not thinking of co sleeping as my husband takes up a lot of space in the bed and moves around a lot, I will also have to be on painkillers for the section they could make me drowsy not to sure

We are similar heights to you and both my babies were over 9lbs.

We had a next to me. Never figured out how to attach it to the bed so just had it as a normal cot.

I liked it as it was quite big and they both fit in it until 6 months. They'd have been out of Moses baskets etc really fast.

Also used a sleeping bag which helped lots with night feeds.

I did think if not having it attached to the bed but just close by could also work.

did you swadell at all or use the sleeping bag right from the start?

what sleeping bags did you use aswell

just want to add I'm from the UK x

We've had the snuzpod 2, I do really like it however I've found that by 4/5 months our girls sleep has been disturbed as they're getting too big for it. But we've had 80th centile babies so might be ok for others.

In regards to the section, I was unable to pick up or put down myself for a few weeks so husband passed the baby to me. I actually this time found it easier to have baby in a Moses basket for the first 2 weeks as I found it easier getting in and out of bed not having something right against the bed.

In the bed! You might think you won’t do it, but if your baby won’t sleep anywhere else you could be tempted.
Newly born banished are very sleepy and not particular for the first few days; you‘d probably be off painkillers by then.

AreBearsCatholic · 21/02/2023 18:56

Babies, not banished

MsChatterbox · 21/02/2023 18:57

I'd recommend side carring an actual cot if you have the space for a cot by your bed. There's tutorials on YouTube on how to do is safely. It means it will last them ages x

MsChatterbox · 21/02/2023 18:58

P.s this worked for my first child but my second it was there for decoration as she was glued to me x

Twizbe · 21/02/2023 19:03

@SnKcampbell we used a chicco next to me. Used it with both babies and it was great.

All babies hate the crib in the early days. But we got there in the end.

We used a variety of sleeping bags. Dunelm, Aldi, sainsburys and ikea were the main ones. We used them from day one as I had 2 winter babies. It was really useful to not have to take them out of blankets to feed them, especially when it was mid January.

I know you didn't ask, but I hugely recommend the uppa baby vista for tall parents.

Hi thanks for responding, i have a feeling our baby may outgrow something quickly aswell

I'm thinking I may need something hubbys side of bed or at the foot of the bed really as you say moving is tricky

Honestly you will struggle with any cot during the first few weeks after having a section so I wouldn’t even consider that when making the choice.

I had the snuz pod 4 which housed my daughter until she was 7 months!! And everyone told me she was a tall baby 😊

unfortunately no space side of bed big enough for cot only bottom of the bed or against a wall, wish I did though as does seem like a good idea

thanks for the response, and yes this is my first baby and I'm the first in family for c section so not many people to speak to, did your partner help you move baby around and pass to you for feeds etc?

the snuzpod does look very nice, did you have this at side of your bed after your c section?

@SnKcampbell lol I've no idea. We brought it in 2016 so those versions might not have been around then. I think there was only 1. It was grey lol

The uppa baby vista is a pram / travel system.

Yes my partner helped loads as I had a horrible birth and took me a while to recover. The cot was on his side and when I was able to get up properly etc, we just moved it to my side.

be proactive with your pain medication and get a nursing pillow for feeds if you haven’t already as this helped me loads with feeding as I couldn’t put any pressure on my tummy so it created a comfy barrier.

best of luck !
