Child with large Wart on Face in DD's Nursery

93 replies

hedgegatemum · 20/02/2022 20:46

Is it okay to have children (babies aged 9 months) with large visible and uncovered warts in a nursery setting on the face (where it will be touched daily and touch surfaces etc.)? DD is only 8 months.

OP posts:

@Mum2jenny

So far, my children have never been in a setting where other children have had warts.
Oh I love this Grin

As if you would know. Do you inspect all classmates?

Honestly, think things through.

How on earth could you possibly ever know? And anyway there are all kinds of contagious things floating about nurseries - hand foot and mouth, chicken pox, scabies, head lice, covid ...
yikesanotherbooboo · 20/02/2022 22:27

About a third of children have warts and the worse that can happen is that they pass on a wart. They are utterly trivial and not worth making any changes to behaviour for. Please don't stigmatise those with this very minor virus. You would think we were in the Middle Ages!

My child had a wart on the end of the nose for over 2 years from about 2.5 yo to just over 4 yo. It didn’t bother DC but the judgement from some —bellends— was unbelievable

There is no wart treatment approved for use in the face for children. I had a lot of conversations with our GP about it - advice was to let it run its course. Never any advice to cover it

They expected it to disappear within 12-18 months. By 2 years the docs agreed to consider cutting it out but we’re worried about scarring. Amazingly it got knocked off when DC was dancing and it just never came back (DC now 13)

One particularly twatty couple of acquaintances told everyone who would listen that DH and I were awful parents letting DC go out and about with ‘that thing’. One of the many reasons I hate this twatty couple

Gladioli23 · 20/02/2022 22:32

I had tens of warts as a child, literally all over my hands and fingers. Short of bandaging my hands so I couldn't write or play or of locking me up no one could realistically cover up my warts. They were bazooka-ed for months until eventually I got so sick of it I told my parents I didn't care any more and we stopped. About 6 months later they all vanished overnight.

Obviously I recognise people don't want that for their children but there's nothing the kid can do about it and they don't ultimately cause any harm so I think it's a suck it up moment ultimately.

notthemum · 20/02/2022 22:34

@Hmbleybee

Not at all. They should be locked away in a leper colony.

Is that what you want to hear?

🤣🤣😂😂. OP, for the love of God. Grow up, sorry if you think thats harsh but really ?
Ladylornax12 · 20/02/2022 22:40

Some harsh replies here! They are contagious my friend at high school had them and I used to borrow her pen. Got two warts on right hand they lasted a few years, one vanished and I pulled the other one off (sorry!!) and it never came back. Never had warts again in my life so I’m sure it was caught from her. I would be worried too OP but probably there isn’t much you can do.

Changechangychange · 20/02/2022 22:42

@StrawberryFever

And I'm not sure why people are equating concern over a contagious condition to bigotry against people with birthmarks. Hmm
Because a lot of people mistake birthmarks for contagious skin conditions? (Or even better, signs of abuse)

The face is a weird place for a large” wart - there’s every chance this is a birthmark.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 20/02/2022 22:45

@Sandsnake I love you! 🤣

Why would you be worried. They caused you absolutely no problems, went away and never bothered you since and why are you apologising to strangers about a historical picking? Odd!
FlushTheLoo · 20/02/2022 22:51

They're contagious, of course you don't want your kid to catch them. But they aren't the end of the world...

gogohm · 20/02/2022 22:58

They are contagious, but it may not be a wart. If it is the best way to kill them is filing with an emery board then covering with duct tape, repeating every few days (yes really, it works)

ShallWeTalkAboutBruno · 20/02/2022 22:59

No, he should be locked away and his parents forced to quit their jobs.

Hmbleybee · 20/02/2022 23:13

@DesdemonaDryEyes

Maybe a bell around the neck to warn when the contaminated child is approaching?
Hahaha this comment has made my day!
saraclara · 20/02/2022 23:31

They are not very contagious at all. And they require quite specific damp conditions to pass from one person to another. That's why veruccas are more of an issue than warts.

Even if this is a wart, which I doubt, the chances of your baby getting one from this baby are almost zero.

nottodaytomorrow · 24/02/2022 19:35

Honestly I would probably start a petition amongst other parents to have the child banned Hmm

Luckyme30 · 02/03/2022 20:17

Eurgh! My son (my innocent little 5 month old boy at the time) had bad eczema on his legs and god forbid we put him in shorts for a baby class.

Ive never come across someone so rude as the woman next to me, she gave him some horrible looks - I could just tell she was judging his skin.

Makes me so sad to see posts like this! Get a grip! Sounds like you should probably change nurseries if you have problems like this.
