Sounds like my dd 2.3 is swearing

My dd 2.3 years has just learnt to say sheep as I go over different animals with her through reading and puzzles. The only problem is it really sounds like she is saying s.h.i.t. I'm am worried about her saying sheep at preschool and they think she is swearing. Everytime I point to a picture of a sheep she says sheep but sounds like she's swearing. Do I explain this to them before she says it there? She cannot really pronounce the letter p yet. I repeat the word sheep to her all the time and really emphasise the p at the end but it's not working Confused

Tell them, it's fine. Kids do this all the time.

fluffedup · 16/01/2021 19:54

When my dd said 'vacuum' it sounded like she was saying 'fuck you'

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 16/01/2021 19:56

It's fine.

My DD pronounced crisps as piss, and chocolate as cock for a while.

They won't bat an eye.

Cardboardeaux · 16/01/2021 19:57

When my DD (18mo) says "outside" it sounds like "oh shite" Grin

Coldwinterahead1 · 16/01/2021 19:58

My ds called cushions cuntins

Mylittlepony374 · 16/01/2021 20:01

Popcorn = cockporn according to my toddler. I wouldn't worry, they've heard everything before. I probably wouldn't bother saying anything.

MrsTerryPratchett · 16/01/2021 20:02

DD called trucks fucks for six months. That was fun.

xsamix86 · 16/01/2021 20:03

Oh god i remember when my DSS was learning to talk! Flag and clock were interesting to say the least! The F became an S and the L went wandering 🤣 don't worry its something I think all children go through when learning to talk

YourHandInMyHand · 16/01/2021 20:05

As someone who works in Early Years - kids mispronounce stuff in unfortunate ways all the time. Grin Maybe let them know, but they won't bat an eyelid.

Wallabyone · 16/01/2021 20:07

My two old kept saying 'starfuck' and pointing to an animal in his book - my daughter realised he meant aardvark Grin It's really common (and a bit funny), don't worry about it.

Thanks everyone, I feel better now Smile This is the best laugh I've had all week! x

Grandson said "white car" which sounded just like "wanker"

WithASpider · 16/01/2021 20:16

DS said Clock as Cock until he was 4. The staff will have heard it all before and howl laughing once they're away from the kids!

ChristmasCovid · 16/01/2021 20:16

Another one who’s lo said fuck meaning truck. He also had speech & language needs and was still saying it at age 5..

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 16/01/2021 20:19

when ds1 was small we talked a lot about boats and not shits

also he had to be the only three year old to ask for cutlery, as I thought his mispronounced "I need a fuck and knife" might not be well received.

SavoyCabbage · 16/01/2021 20:35

This also happens when they start to write and they are sounding things out. Couldn't and cunt is very popular in phonics!

Busygoingblah · 16/01/2021 20:41

Speech therapist here. Have a go at practising the ‘p’ sound by itself for a bit before you start practising it in words with her. Saying ‘pop’ while popping bubbles together ‘pop pop pop’ is a fun way of practising ‘p in words.

Hextopus · 16/01/2021 20:47

My almost 3 year old told the nursery he had "train sex" for Christmas. He had a train set!

sofakingawesome · 16/01/2021 21:08

My now 4 year old struggled with 'st' for a while, it came out as a 'd', he loved telling people all about his big sticks 😂😂 he also (still does) calls pork pies poo pies and for a little while sausage rolls where known as arse rolls in this house. I think early years places will be well aware of these types of things so don't worry :)

Ornamentalcabbages · 16/01/2021 21:34

My 20m tries to enthusiastically say "fork", but comes out as "FUCK!"

Dogsandbabies · 16/01/2021 21:54

Mine said cock instead of clock. All day long on repeat. They have heard it all!

mrsed1987 · 16/01/2021 21:58

My son is 2, monkey sounds like winky, clock... Well you can guess that one and taxi was tittie.

Nursery just laughed about it and are just try to help him pronounce properly

Love51 · 16/01/2021 22:03

It is really normal.
My dh's young brother spent far too long engaging my ds in conversation about a Julia Donaldsin TV adaptation one Christmas because he was amused by DS's pronunciation - Dickman Hmm

leah1991 · 17/01/2021 07:13

That's a very good idea. I will try that. Thank you x
