How many of you never use nurseries childminders etc and wait until your child is old enough for pre school?

Just wondering as my local creche has changed it's opening times and you can now only have 4 hour sessions (DS used to go for a 2 hour session twice a week). I really don't want him to go for 4 hours but I am now worried that he will be "missing out" but is that possible at 2? Surely all the stimulation he needs is at home from his sister and DH and me?

Thanks for reading this far, think I might be over analysing it all tbh I've clearly got too much time on my hands

Some really good opinions - thanks! The idea that I might not be ready isn't one I'd thought of but actually I do wonder if I am "ready" to let him go. I really like spending time with him and now that DD starts school next week I realise how quickly these first few years go. I'm not certain I will have another so maybe part of me wants to keep him at home.

My problem is that I don't have access to any good quality mums and baby groups and I do worry about his socilaisation development but he has his sister I guess. I just wish the nursery would offer the 2 hour sessions again. I could cope with that

DD started at preschool and that was it. DS has just started a nursery one morning a week (18 months) but purely for my benefit.

They are fine without going, but fine to go too.

You're overanalysing

My daughter (2.10) did her first morning at pre-school this morning, never having been to any kind of group care in her life before.

She loved it - her first words on coming out were "I love to go to school with my friends"

Caroline1852 · 07/09/2007 12:31

Anna - Glad it went well. I hope you corrected her: "I love going to school with my friends" (I think she has been watching too much Dora the Explorer - she speaks like that!).

Anna8888 · 07/09/2007 12:40

We don't know Dora....

Caroline1852 · 07/09/2007 14:28

me neither, never watch it, ever.

Caroline - I was mystified by your comment on "to go" / "going" - so I looked it up - both are correct . There's a tiny list of verbs that can take the gerund or infinitive with no change of meaning - begin, continue, hate, like, love, prefer, start try.

Anna8888 · 07/09/2007 20:39

start, try
