Molluscum contagiosum

DS is completely covered with red bumps, in appearance it looks like severe chickenpox.
I took him to the doctor who said its MC and that even though its very contagious it is harmless and he can continue going to nursery.

Nothing can really be done and these bumps will go away without treatment in the next 12 - 18 MONTHS!

I'm a bit worried about what the nursery and other parents will think about this? I've had the all clear to send him by the doctor but it looks horrendous. Has anyone got any experience from this?

Btw I know doctors are only human but if a bunch of mums can rule it out then what ??????? Sometimes they annoy me with there blatant misdiagnosis.

It depends on their experience, though.
When DD was born, I knew she had the beginnings of oral thrush because DS had had it and it had taken a good month to finally get rid of it from both of us. I knew from experience exactly what it looked like.

When I took her to the doctor for treatment, he had never seen it before, wasn't sure and wasn't prepared to hand out treatment just on my say-so - I have no medical training. He wanted to wait and see if it developed.

Sure enough, 2 days later I was back - both of us infected and her mouth full of it. A different doctor saw us and diagnosed it on the spot. He'd seen it before.

They still don't know what it is but we're gonna have to stay the night. He's had an anti viral drip and they've taken tests.

Glad you now have a diagnosis, now the drs can zap this nasty virus..I really hope your Ds is feeling better soon, it can make people quite poorly.

He's feeling ok thank you, just a bit bored and wants to go home. I'm so happy we've got a definite answer now.

Dint know if anyone is still reading this but DS has been fine for the last couple of weeks, went for a check up at the hospital last week where we got to meet yet another doctor who said she did not believe he had had eh but hand foot and mouth. A bit annoying that there was no consensus!

Anyway, I'm worried again. Yesterday I noticed a rash on him again, it looked more like a heat rash this time, and today nursery ring an asked us to pick him up as he had a temperature. DS is now in bet with a temp of 39.1C and a rash. The rash fades when I press it so it wouldn't be meningitis but do you think it's connected to whatever he had two weeks ago and do I need to be worried?

Thanks for asking, he's still got a high temp and rash but we've had it checked and nothing to worry about. Just "something viral".

My ds has had it for around 5 years now. I have tried everything. It did go down with liquid silver though. It's expensive but did seem to make a difference.

Btw it hasn't spread to his siblings. Didn't mean to worry you just to say it is very common.
