Will morning sickness ruin my wedding if I am 7 weeks pregnant?

hedgingbettings · 22/07/2026 22:13

due to be 7-8 weeks pregnant on wedding day.

Worried about morning sickness. What are the chances I will get it? Did anti sickness tablets work for you? Is there anything else I can do to reduce?

To make it worse were having a family day before and after because family are flying in from Australia so it will be three intense days in a row!

Were you secretly pregnant on your wedding day? Were you able to enjoy your day?

I would try not to worry. Some people get it, some don't, and, most don't get it uncontrollably. I have had 5 children, and had it twice properly (as in was sick) in 45 months of pregnancy, once an hour before going into labour, and once "all of a sudden" when I was refuelling the car (think it was the fumes). I used to feel a bit tired / sickly around 5pm when I was carrying girls, but a lie down / nap for about 40 mins did the trick (so rest times might be helpful "refreshing your make up"). Normally kicks in around 6 weeks, so if there are signs of it, go the docs, and explain the situation, and I am sure they will help you. Daughter had it bad, so just shows there seems little rhyme or reason to it, but I think you will sort of know by the time you are a few days away. Double congrats ! HTH xx

thank you @TheM55 that's given me alot of reassurance. When you weren't sick did you feel under the weather? I'm worried I'll feel lethargic. Did you have some consecutive days where you felt ok or did you always feel pregnant?

Twins also run in my family and I know morning sickness is worse for that!

I didn't get it with both of mine and I barely felt pregnant, it was as if I wasn't but I was. I felt fine & dandy! Hope you do too!

CormorantWings · 22/07/2026 22:54

I was 8 weeks pregnant on my wedding day. I didn't get sick at all until a few weeks later. However everyone is different.

hedgingbettings · 22/07/2026 22:55

google said 80% of women get it!

I had terrible morning sickness in both my pregnancies, but at 8 weeks it was only just starting with mild nausea.

hedgingbettings · 22/07/2026 22:58

@MrsFionaCharming would it have ruined your wedding day?

At 7 weeks I could barely stand up without being sick and was overwhelmed with nausea for all my (limited) waking hours and was hospitalised with hyperemisis. Anti sickness drugs were useless.

This happened in both pregnancies, but I understand that only around 2% of women are affected.

Good luck with your pregnancy and wedding x

MrsFionaCharming · 22/07/2026 23:01

Not at 8 weeks. A few weeks later and I’d have been miserable.

I was very bloated at 8 weeks though. I remember having a work trip and none of my smart clothes fit. Then a few weeks later they did again until the bump appeared.

clareykb · 22/07/2026 23:01

I had have twins and had no morning sickness at all. I had all manner of complications later on but thankfully that particular part wasnt a problem I had maybe a 2 or 3 week period at like 10 weeks where I felt sick when I was hungry if that makes sense but no actual puking. I would have been fine to get married at 7 weeks.

Clickrodio · 22/07/2026 23:01

I had awful sickness in pregnancy, but so did my sister and mum. There’s definitely some genetics in it.

Thr antisickness meds are amazing so if you start feeling sick I would crack on with getting them sorted a few weeks before.

A friend got married at 10 weeks and was a little bit tired by 10pm but otherwise was unaffected.

Deadleaves77 · 22/07/2026 23:04

At 7/8 weeks pregnant I was throwing up basically everything I ate and gagging when not actively vommiting, so yes it would have ruined my wedding day, however everyone's different. Some people don't get any morning sickness

stiffstink · 22/07/2026 23:05

At that point in my pregnancies I couldn't look at a lasagne and felt a bit ropey in the mornings (imagine being on a car journey on a winding road while hungover) but no actual vomiting.

Morning sickness doesnt usually mean vomiting - and congrats on the wedding!

I was the same as this poster. Started around 5 weeks and continued until I gave birth. Would have ruined my wedding day feeling like that but hopefully you won’t have hyperemesis. Good luck

hedgingbettings · 22/07/2026 23:07

I can't imagine how hard that must be to have it so severe

EarringsandLipstick · 22/07/2026 23:13

There’s no way to know OP.

I had miserable (morning - but actually all-day) sickness from 6 weeks till about 15 weeks on all my pregnancies. But I coped, worked, looked after younger DC etc.

I would not have wanted to be getting married. That’s a day you want to look & feel amazing.

EarringsandLipstick · 22/07/2026 23:17

Sorry @hedgingbettings I didn’t read the OP properly and realise you are already pregnant! Congratulations
🥳

I would be looking at the day find ways to make it easier for yourself eg build in time for a nap, consider adjusting your dress / shoes, have a good plan for photos so they don’t take too long etc

Catlady724 · 22/07/2026 23:46

For me nausea kicked in at 6-7 weeks in all my pregnancies and I definitely felt pretty ropey and tired by 8 weeks. But everyone is different, so hard to predict. I could have ‘got through’ a wedding day, just wouldn’t have felt great. It was worse by 9-10 weeks and lasted until 21/22 weeks for me. High dose vitamin B6 helps so start taking it now!

beeble347 · 22/07/2026 23:53

Hi OP congratulations! I don't think anyone can answer about the likelihood for you as it varies so much, some people feel completely fine. For me having gone through one pregnancy, we went to Mexico around the 8/9 week mark and my nausea got much worse during the trip, though it started from about 5.5 weeks.

Things to reassure you:

  1. I barely ate on my wedding day anyway, too much adrenaline! And we don't drink anyway so you definitely don't need alcohol to enjoy your wedding day
  1. Snack on something small plain every couple of hours if you're feeling sick. Sea sickness wristbands were helpful but you'd probably want to avoid those on the big day. Things like sparkling water, lemon and lime flavours, plain crackers were all great for me. I'd also recommend getting a handheld fan as I felt really hot (summer) around this stage and also had to go to the loo quite frequently.
  1. Advice I couldn't adopt myself for the life of me but you just can't predict how you'll feel. Prepare as far as you can but you do have to surrender the sense of being in control (from quite early in pregnancy actually and increasingly with a little one).

I know you'll have a wonderful day! Take breaks if you need them but it will not ruin your day

Ponderingwindow · 23/07/2026 00:00

I managed to attend a wedding at about 10 weeks. I threw up multiple times during the day while getting ready. I managed to make it through the actual event without vomiting, but I did have to be careful. I sat as much as I could and sipped water.

I had hyperemesis. I was sick daily until I had my dc. So I am basically the worst case scenario.

TheM55 · 23/07/2026 00:17

Honestly, I would really not worry, especially at 7-8 weeks - yes at times I felt a bit tired (the more children I had the more tired-er I probably felt) I definitely did not feel ill, nor lethargic most of the time, I just felt "normal". If you are looking after yourself, taking all the right vitamins (folic acid etc.), plenty of hydration, there may be no problem. I didn't particularly like the last stages of pregnancy (late hot summers, and I was absolutely massive, indigestion etc.). but you are a long way from that. AND you could be really unlucky, and I feel for some of the previous posters here that have had an awful time from early on, but it does not happen to most, and it probably won't happen to you, If you are really really worried about it, so anxiety is getting you, or it does start coming on early, just go to the docs and have a chat about how you feel, and don't feel bad about doing so. xxx

Don't think doing everything right helps? Women who don't take vitamins/keep hydrated do all the things they're advised not to often have no morning sickness, where a lot of us who did all the "right" things did, and most have more sickness at 7/8 weeks than late in pregnancy.
Obviously you should do the right things anyway OP, but there's no way to be sure you will or won't suffer sickness. Obviously if you do you can see a doctor, though they wouldn't give me anything for it, and the women I did know who got any medication didn't get given it until much further into their pregnancies. Only saying in case that happens, as they were surprised they had to wait.
A lot of people find ice lollies helpful. But you just won't know whether you'll need it.

Ruthietuthie · 23/07/2026 01:57

I had morning sickness dreadfully from around week 12 until week 20. At week 8 I was positively gloating, thinking I had missed out on morning sickness all together. How wrong I was.
When I did have it, it was eight weeks of feeling like I had the most dreadful, relentless hang-over. I rarely vomited but felt as if I wished I could the whole time. We went to Montreal for my husband's work trip, my first visit to the city, and I saw nothing but the inside of the hotel room.
So, to echo everyone else, you can't know. Medication can help, however.

hedgingbettings · 23/07/2026 09:18

its good to know medication can help, can it eradicate it all together?

@MrsFionaCharming would it have ruined your wedding day?

I could barely leave the house from 8-14 weeks as I was extremely nauseous and sometimes threw up.
