How to get rid of thrush!!

Just that really. I’ve had it 3 weeks and tried pessaries, cream oral medication and took myself to the chemist today for another canisten pessary. I’ve also been prescribed a cream for vaginal dryness.

I’m drinking sugar free water, wearing cotton knickers and avoiding baths.

Any tips?

Are you sure it is thrush?

Yes. Dr found it whilst I was having an internal.

Was it merely a visual diagnosis? Go to a sexual health clinic and be properly tested as you may have a drug-resistant species variation.

Have you actually been tested for thrush or did the DR just see it and say you’ve got thrush?

Avoid both heavily bleached toilet paper (recycled is the worst!) and sanitary products. My reoccuring thrush only resolved when I changed toilet paper.

Another suggestion to change loo roll. I had recurrent thrush when I was a teen living at home, moved out and stopped buying aloe loo roll which immediately solved it!

I have another appointment in the 14th if it hasn’t cleared up she’s referring me to a gynaecologist

Do you sanitary pads like Always,they used to give me thrush?

No I’m post menopausal thankfully. It’s the first time I’ve ever had thrush and it seems reluctant to go

Any chance you could be undiagnosed diabetic ?

Maybe you need a course of pessaries over a few days rather than just using one now and then

How’s your alcohol consumption? That cane make it worse.

otherwise doc should be able to give you oral meds which are stronger, some tablets. That an like 3 or 4 pessaries back to back so pessary, wait a day, next pessary etc. should nail even a stubborn case

Someone above mentioned scented loo roll, do you use that? It always sets me off even ‘mildly’ scented

If you’re post menopausal you need to be looking at using some sort of vaginal oestrogen cream (Ovestin or estriol, via the GP) as the dryness associated with vaginal atrophy post menopause can make you much more prone to thrush.

Was your oral medication fluconazole? That worked for me, but I needed more than one dose.
Also, I'm diabetic, so worth getting your blood sugars checked. Even if they are fine, cutting out sugary, carby foods should help.

Get yourself some fluconazole tablets from the pharmacy or online. It’s the active ingredient in Canesten tablets but unbranded so way cheaper. Take one and then take another 72 hours later. Then take one a week for a few weeks. This is what knocked mine on the head after about 3 months of it just recurring again and again.

I get it everytime I’m pregnant, badly. The go usually prescribed a week of pressures and it clears it up

She’s put me on estriol for 2 weeks then back to see her. She also gave me an oral med so 🤞 it’s working

I used to get recurrent Thrush and found that certain foods will trigger -
fruit juice from concentrate
Nutella on white bread
pineapple

That’s good. Just to let you know that estriol won’t make any real difference in just two weeks, you need to use it consistently and persistently- the oestrogen needs time to get into the tissues. A lot of women stop using it too early before it’s even started working. It’s made a huge difference to me. I have interstitial cystitis and vaginal atrophy and it’s almost cured the IC.
