I am a hair’s breadth from reporting myself to Social Services but actually what can they do? What do I want from them?

We live in what most would describe as squalor. I’ve tried everything to try & keep our home clean and tidy like a regular adult but I can’t do it.

If I had a physical disability someone would help me but because (to others) I should just be able to ‘learn strategies’ etc there’s no support.

My children shouldn’t have to live like this but I don’t know how to fix it. Everything is so difficult because of the mess.

Other than the usual suggestions of TOMM etc is there anything I can really do? Is there anyone who can help me?

I always end up recommending A Slob Comes Clean as it’s the only approach that fits the way my brain works.

(She isn’t diagnosed with adhd but it really seems likely that she’s one of us)

I couldn’t manage TOMM or flylady. They’re all great for a short while and then I fall apart again. One of the things I like about A Slob Comes Clean is that when everything goes tits up, (and it does) I know where to start to get back on top again so I’m not afraid of sliding or having a bad patch.

Most cleaning/organisation/cluttering advice is written by and for people who like it, understand it and will actually get up and do it. She writes for the rest of us.

I know it’s one more thing when you’re overwhelmed. But even if you just listen to a podcast for the laugh, it might help you feel a little less alone in this.
