NTs and their need to comment.

Even disclaimers at the top of my posts don't stop them from commenting! Why would you do this?
I'd never dream of going and commenting on the Black Mumsnetters board and trying to join in their conversations as I have absolutely no clue what they deal with. I read their board and take in what they say and that's it.

I just want time to communicate with others like me, is that too much to ask?

Surprise surprise Hmm

I know they are NT because they always say!

@GirlInACountrySong

its an open forum people can comment where they like

how do you know they are NT anyway?

Because they usually say they are. And then, they post all kinds of shite about how we can better ourselves, and minimise our experiences.
ofwarren · 20/02/2022 14:44

It's usually along the lines of "NT here, I ALSO do those behaviours so they aren't exclusive to ND people"
Translation: Do better autistic and ADHD people!

That's how I interpret these really fucking unhelpful and unwanted posts too!

My fuse is short today, hence the swearing Grin

ofwarren · 20/02/2022 14:57

Short fuse here too
Why is it any different to saying to someone in a wheelchair full time "I understand because I was in a wheelchair for a while after I broke my foot"?

Or to someone who's blind "I can't couldn't see once, when I got dust in my eyes".

OP posts:
Nortd · 20/02/2022 15:12

Because these posts often start with something similar to I'm not NT but...
Similar to the "man here" posts.

I think it would be good if this section didn't appear in active tbh.

Nortd · 20/02/2022 15:13

*nd not nt.

ofwarren · 20/02/2022 15:18

I agree it would be easier but there a quite a few now on the path to a diagnosis because they stumbled upon this board.

Yes, it's an open forum, but MN deliberately put this at the top of the Neurodiverse board for good reason. It would be nice if people respected that and didn't challenge or question us.
RainbowZebraWarrior · 20/02/2022 15:22

This being this. Sorry. struggling today

NTs and their need to comment.
trilbydoll · 20/02/2022 15:25

You won't see that if you go to a thread via active conversations though, and I know people often somehow miss which board they're even reading.

trilbydoll · 20/02/2022 15:27

BTW 'I couldn't see once because I got dust in my eye' has properly made me laugh Grin

Nortd · 20/02/2022 15:28

it's always just at the top of the op post regardless whether you come via active or not.

That's why I put a disclaimer at the top of the posts I only want ND input on but NTs still comment.

Perfect analogies.

Somehow though, reading those examples makes it so much fucking worse Angry Angry Angry

Because people are dick heads who think their need to express their thoughts is more important than respecting a space created for a specific group of people. Lots of people go on the black mumsnetters board and start with “I’m white but…”. It’s rude, arrogant and entitled.

My suggestion would be to collectively agree to grey rock them and don’t engage with them when they stuck their ore in!

Good idea. I usually try to just ignore but I've got toothache today so have a bit of a short fuse.

@WhatTheWhoTheWhatThe I think that's a good approach, I've seen that happen a couple of times now and the user has got the message. We have had a couple of lovely NT people though who have posted and apologised right away when they've realised which board it's on. I've had one arsehole who told me "yes you are BU" who obviously got lost on the way from the daily mail to the actives board.

One caveat though - we can't really post generalising about NTs and why they do X, even if its out of frustration, and then give them no right of reply. Same with Black Mumsnetters - if they start posting about non-black people and their habits, they can't blame people for wanting to defend themselves or explain why they do something.

MNHQ have now reposted your disclaimer on the repeating stories thread, ofwarren .

SickAndTiredAgain · 20/02/2022 16:33

What about undiagnosed? I’ve suspected for many years I’m not NT, and relate to so much of this board but am never sure if it’s my place to comment as I’m not “officially” ND.

No problem if you comment as you are undiagnosed in my opinion. There are quite a few on here at the moment.

I'd hidden the thread because it just gets ruined.

I think the issue is with posters coming on saying 'I'm NT but ...' rather than with posters who are ND but not diagnosed.
ofwarren · 20/02/2022 16:58

Exactly
