DD has access to DH's enormous music collection, but she wants some stuff of her own that she can play in her bedroom and sulk to when she's feeling misunderstood. A strong pop-y style and loadsa attitooood is what she would like.

so far she has;
girls aloud
sugababes
avril lavigne
kate nash
ting tings

will get some selected Lily Allen

maybe some Christina Aguilera

more ideas please anyone?

6y DD also likes Vampire Weekend (although a couple of tracks we have omitted on her MP3 player as they contain the f word)

techpep · 11/02/2009 22:14

Rihanna, my dd loves all the house music as well, anything thats played on MTV Dance.

iheartdusty · 11/02/2009 22:19

ah, don't know Vampire Weekend, will get DH onto spottify.

rihanna good idea. I think we're going more rock than dance...

Pink?

Tinker · 11/02/2009 22:19

Pink

snice · 11/02/2009 22:20

Is Leona Lewis too wet?

Tinker · 11/02/2009 22:21

Britney?

Songbird · 11/02/2009 22:21

There's a fab Irish singer-songwriter called Wallis Bird, some of her stuff is really beautiful, some is funny and some is really loud! Would have to look out for the odd swear word, though.

Songbird · 11/02/2009 22:24

Also, I lurve Tori Amos and Martha Wainwright and would recommend them to any girl but maybe wait a few years!

iheartdusty · 11/02/2009 22:25

Pink - excellent idea. Where should we start?

leona lewis also worth looking into.

Thanks very much everyone, keep'em coming!

Anybody got any ideas from years past? my mind has gone blank. I've given her Kirsty MacColl, which went down OK (but she hasn't got pink hair like Avril Lavigne, and looks suspiciously as though she might even be As Old As Mummy).

no hippy drips like Alanis Morrissette, not yet anyway.

Joan Jett
The Bangles

Kbear · 11/02/2009 22:29

Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana)

iheartdusty · 11/02/2009 22:35

Wallis Bird - a new one on me - will check her out.

Britney - her main hits have been great songs - what's the rest like?

I lurve Martha Wainwright too! I also lurve Eliza Carthy.

Joan Jett! The bangles! Yes! yes! and you've reminded me about the Pretenders as well.

I have a bit more of a problem with Hannah Montana, she is so manufactured.

Swear words we will take in our stride, I think. DH and I discuss this fairly often, and we concluded that we don't mind DD hearing them. There's a whole thread to be had, and it's a frequent MN topic, but not for now.

High School Musical is de rigueur for 7 year olds round our way

Songbird · 11/02/2009 22:37

Ooh yeah, Eliza Carthy is great - my neighbour makes her violins [random emoticon!]. Amy MacDonald is folkish but young so she might like her, her album's pretty good.

snice · 11/02/2009 22:37

Gwen Stefani

Tinker · 11/02/2009 22:38

Amy McDonald - very good suggestion
What about 60s girl groups - Shangri-Las, Ronettes etc.

Ewe · 11/02/2009 22:39

Alanis Morisette? Might need to be censored though!

PlumBumMum · 11/02/2009 22:42

Miley Cyrus
Westlife
Jonas Brothers

LightShinesInTheDarkness · 11/02/2009 22:42

Amy McDonald
KT Tunstall
Duffy
Bananarama
Katy Perry
Sophie Ellis Bextor
The Saturdays

iheartdusty · 11/02/2009 22:44

These are fabulous ideas, thanks.

Tinker - for some reason the 60s stuff doesn't appeal to DD. I suppose she doesn't relate to the heartbreak content.

St Etienne

Rowlers · 11/02/2009 22:54

My dd loves Kate Bush too

Rowlers · 11/02/2009 22:55
