RaggedRobin · 16/01/2009 23:29

devo - (can't get no) satisfaction
gang of four - to hell with poverty
bauhaus - kick in the eye
throbbing gristle - hot on the heels of love
wire - kidney bingos
human league - being boiled
simple minds - i travel

television - marquee moon

ooo love all this too!!!

retiredgoth2 · 16/01/2009 23:36

Magazine!

Oh yes, fine choice....

But 'The Light Pours Out of Me' would be a better choice.

...and the first, eponymous Violent Femmes album is a marvel, too. It was fun to hear 'Blister in the Sun' revived for an incongruous beer ad on tele recently. I loved the cover of the album as well....

...The Triffids.

I love The Triffids, This is one good reason why...

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/01/2009 23:41

I saw Magazine !
loved Lloyd Cole too

Anthrax - Gang of Four

retiredgoth2 · 16/01/2009 23:46

....you saw Magazine???

I see your Magazine, and I trump it with The Smiths live in 1983.....

retiredgoth2 · 16/01/2009 23:49

Joy Division.

...especially Unknown Pleasures.

(too young to have seen them live. Saw New Order in 1984, though. The night before my History A level. Didn't get home 'til 3. The grade 'E' was THEIR FAULT!)

...was reading the list you linked to, KM.

I was a little shocked to find this shite on the list....

...I had erased it from my memory. Now, I shall be forever reminded that 'John Wayne is Big Leggy'

Quite

My Perfect Cousin/Teenage Kicks - Undertones
Surely The Pogues - they supported just about every band I ever saw between 1984 - 1988.

Retiredgoth - does this mean you were a 'Sisters of Mercy' fan . Or Red Lorry Yellow Lorry (I still love 'Are you Walking on Your Hands'!)?

moonshine · 17/01/2009 00:26

Ah you made me go reminiscey as well

red lorry yellow lorry

retiredgoth2 · 17/01/2009 00:38

...yes indeed I loved the Sisters of Mercy, especially live.

They had a sense of irony, unlike a number of other 'goth' bands (HATED The Mission, for example..)

....as evidenced by this Dolly Parton cover

splendid!

KM, you shared a flat with the Residents?

Crikey. My claim to fame is that I have seen Roni Size on the terraces at Bristol Rovers. Not quite the same....

retiredgoth2 · 17/01/2009 00:42

...thanks for the Red Lorry Yellow Lorry link.

I had forgotten that song, and (unlike the Hayzee Fantayzee number), was glad to be reminded of it....

ghost rider - suicide

pablo picasso - modern lovers

and not new wave but

both ends burning - roxy music

I want more - can

Magazine!!! hooray! - I'm jealous MaryAnnSingleton!

Honeymoon Killers

Can I be shallow and tell retiredgoth that Andrew Eldritch asked me out on a date once?
I said no because I'd been brainwashed into a fear of groupiedom. Oh, how i wish I'd had a misspent youth now.

zenandtheartofbaking · 17/01/2009 01:42

And I'm well jealous of you, too, KM.

You must have had a brilliant time in NY!

MegBusset · 17/01/2009 11:54

Went to bed early last night so missed all these new posts. Cheers -- lots I've heard but plenty of new stuff to check out too

KM, you are far too rock'n'roll!
