... from the melody/hook alone? Didn't catch the lyrics. Are there any websites for this?

Ta.

Thank you Flight!

Well I rang Kew prepared to 'do do do' down the phone at them, but got a bored youth (you could practically hear the spots) who was not at all charmed by me and basically wanted me to sod off. He said he didn't have a printout and couldn't help me, and also told me to ring head office. So I will do that, hopefully later on this afternoon...

DaDaDa, I dunno to be honest. Could be modern I suppose, but did sound old.

On the off-chance that there are any Atlantic soul/Motown freaks out there who can also read music, in the key of C major it would go:

C
C-B-A
A-G-F
F-E-D-E-F-G-A-B

Can't quite convey the rhythm using letters unfortunately.

I thought it would be like that actually. that was how I sung it iyswim.

I use dots to do rhythm. One dot per beat.

Will explain later if needed

Hope you get through! Sorry you got bored yoof. My bloke was delightful!!

Flightattendant2 · 23/10/2008 14:13

01788 866 543

Option 0
Then 3 I think

policywonk · 23/10/2008 14:15

Flight, my dear, what's the head office number? And why don't Gap have a proper bloody website?

If you could just come over here and run my life for me in your spare time, that would be great.

You're hired

Ooh did you get through?

DaDaDa · 23/10/2008 16:16

I love a mystery, so here's the tune (as I understand it) on my guitar (and yes, I am very sad) for those who are still sleuthing:

You Send It link

Grin
harleyd · 23/10/2008 16:20

see, now thats going round and round in my head....

policywonk · 23/10/2008 16:20

LOL Da. That is freaky. You're in my iTunes now.

You might have to work on, you know, the funk a bit.

Flight, I am steeling myself to ring. Perhaps I will play them DaDaDa's link...

OP posts:
DaDaDa · 23/10/2008 16:25

[mortally offended emoticon] You know I got soul...

policywonk · 23/10/2008 16:25

RIGHT I rang them and apparently I need to speak to Nathalie, who helps to choose the choons.

Unfortunately Nathalie's not at her desk right now.

DaDaDa · 23/10/2008 16:27

I mean, come on, it's on a 12 string acoustic. Did Steve Cropper play a 12 string acoustic? I think not

CatIsSleepy · 23/10/2008 16:31

ah c'mon am on tenterhooks here
what's the flippin' tune?
saw this thread the other day...am impressed/bewildered that you're still trying to find out!

CatIsSleepy · 23/10/2008 16:31

can only assume it's a really really good tune

wheresthehamster · 23/10/2008 16:38

Can't you put yourself on youtube do-do-doing and we can all listen?

The Stylistics and Delphonics were falsetto Motown groups in the late 60s and haven't been mentioned. It wasn't one of them was it?

DaDaDa · 23/10/2008 16:45

"Can't you put yourself on youtube do-do-doing and we can all listen?"

She can dish it out but she just can't take it, wth. Funk indeed.

Hopefully Nathalie's finding out for us right now. And I hope it turns out to be Westlife or something equally embarrassing.

policywonk · 23/10/2008 17:08

Nathalie is a BIG FAT SLACKER.

I am very very sorry to have dissed your funk, DaDaDa. I'm sure a 12-string acoustic is very difficult.

Have no video camera. Believe me, you should all be grateful.

Cat, I have a terrible feeling that when I finally find it I'm going to be a bit underwhelmed...

Hamster, I will have another iTunes shufti for those two.

Hee hee

Flightattendant2 · 23/10/2008 17:20

The bloke (bloke? Not sure) I got earlier thought it was 'Brittany' murphy. But the song title was definitely something about over something, I thought it was overwhelmed, but it was something similar.

So I guessed Roisin Murphy.
Brittany Murphy, no idea who either of them are actually, but only seems to have done one song with some dj.

DaDaDa · 23/10/2008 17:26

It's my ritual on any soul thread to post a link to Out On The Floor, just because it is the most joyous life affirming tune of all time. And I'm off on holiday tomorrow. Hey-hey-hey!

piratecat · 23/10/2008 17:31

is it the new girls aloud one?

EachPeachPearMum · 23/10/2008 17:35

Did no-one work it out yet?

policywonk · 23/10/2008 17:53

That is a good tune, DaDaDa. I'm not normally a big northern soul fan but I do like that one.

No, we're all still here EachPeach. I'm hoping to get a nomination for Mumsnet Classics soon, obviously.

Girls Aloud? Anything's possible... I should say that I do think it was a fella singing though.

Isn't Brittany Murphy an actress?
