Next Monday and Tuesday Mr Hannon is doing a bilingual gig in Paris, doing some Jacques Brel, Gainsbourg, Francoise Hardy, etc, with French guests.
We're going to the Monday one and I am so excited.
Anyone else going?

how are you Marina by the way? Still doing the Latin club? Dd has started Latin and is delighted (her latin name is Amaranta, she thinks it stinks and wanted to be called Luna because of HP connotations)

OK, we booked a few plays several months ago (when we had cash!! all gone now), and they're all happening soon. In October we're going to see Kenneth Branagh in Ivanov (always wanted to see him on stage)....
Then we have Tennant again in Love's Labour's Lost and finally Derek Jacobi in Twelfth's Night.
Apart from that my life's quite boring!!

I saw Sir Derek when he was a kiddy in Ivanov, you know
what a fab production
It has been my favourite Chekhov ever since. Jane Wymark (Mrs Inspector Barnaby these days) was the hapless Sasha.
Latin is v.g. thanks FP, we reconvene again at the end of the week. Be interesting to see if the pueri et puellae have remembered any of it

FrogPrincess · 16/09/2008 19:04

Wow I bet he was great in that!
I'll have to erase from my mind the very funny episode in Frasier where he plays an awful theatre actor and hams it up

OK, a quick update for the Hannon fans: it was brilliant!!!! He started with Amsterdam and did a wonderful job of it, so good in fact that I felt the two songs after it were a bit ordinary..... He did a few of his own classics (Our Mutual Friend, lady of a certain age, Alfie, Summerhouse, Tonight we fly, National Express...). He also did Poupee de Cire POupee de Son, Initials BB (with 'Sexy Boy'), sung with a French singer called Daphnee (very pretty, nice 'broken' voice, he also sung If with her), Les copains d'abord (my jaw dropped at that point!!), L'amour est bleu (bof...), Les playboys (brilliant!!), Je changerai d'avis (also brilliant), and as a joke, Joe le Taxi!!
He spoke mainly in French which was great, very funny as usual. Vincent Delerm sung Songs of love very badly, but was entertaining, and Neil sung Anita Petersen (one of Delerm's) beautifully.
It was an amazing night and dd also had a fantastic time!
By the way, Tennant in Hamlet was great, a very memorable Hamlet indeed, I would love to see it again!!

Great review FP!

Marina · 25/09/2008 14:14

Vilaine!
Not so sure about Joe le Taxi though

FrogPrincess · 25/09/2008 14:17

it was very funny to see (apparently the second night Delerm came on stage during Joe le taxi and did a silly dance). However I would have preferred another Brel!!

You can never have too much Brel.
Unlike too much Branagh, I gather he has had mixed reviews as Ivanov
