I'm fessing up to this one like it's a guilty pleasure. I still do like their stuff. So did John Peel.

At the time they were criticised a lot for being Smiths wannabes. I still love Sleep Well Tonight and Olympian

Don't think they really got the success they deserved. Who's with me?

Love The Lemonheads, Shame about Ray one of my most listened to albums.

Liked Juliana Hatfield and Liz Phair at around the same time, too.

Don't remember the Cranes, it rings a bell though.

And Teenage Fanclub, seen them but not a favourite of mine.

I loved Curve, especially Toni Halliday, she did that song, Original, was it with Leftfield?

What fun

DaDaDa · 06/08/2008 14:19

The Dylans? Get you with your obscurist one-upmanship UQD! I preferred Godlike myself.

I think the only band so far on here that's new to me is The Dandys. I didn't miss much did I?

Anyone admit to Airhead? I thought they were going to be huuuuge.

DaDaDa · 06/08/2008 14:23

The Cranes? Goth.

Perhaps the ultimate fag end of Britpop single - Catch - Bingo

...and when this was released the game was truly up.

frankiesbestfriend · 06/08/2008 14:23

Anyone remember Whiteout?

I just had the one 12" called Jackie's Racing, that might be all they did, but I played that a lot.

Can't find them on youtube so fairly obscure I think

Bronze · 06/08/2008 14:25

You guys might be the people to ask.
About 10-15 years ago there was a band on the melody maker tour cicuit that played in a pub I went to. They were called Superior and they gave out promo single cds. Any one heard of them?

PinkChick · 06/08/2008 14:27

before my dp had hhis sideburns and quiff restyled people used to actually stop him and ask if "you are the singer grom Gene"..LOl, i had no idea who they were..still looks like him though, slightly diff nose

frankiesbestfriend · 06/08/2008 14:41

Whiteout

Still can't find the Jackie's Racing single though, if anyone could help me out I would be most grateful

They had a similar sound to Heavy Stereo, isn't he in Oasis now?

frankiesbestfriend · 06/08/2008 14:45

Used to quite like Ride actually, he's in farking Oasis aswell

DaDaDa · 06/08/2008 14:47

Ooh, I remember that Whiteout single. Catchy. Like Teenage Fanclub full of aspartemine.

My mate went to see them supported by Oasis. Reckoned Whiteout were sure to be massive.

frankiesbestfriend · 06/08/2008 14:49

DaDaDa that Catch link is truly dire, wtf is that all about?

Sleeper by numbers

DaDaDa · 06/08/2008 14:53

I did mean 'ultimate fag end of Britpop' in a derogatory sense! By 1997 major labels were signing anyone with a Dick Van Dyke accent and a Fred Perry t shirt. Except my band.

A bit early maybe but always worth a blast of TPE. Recently reformed.

UnquietDad · 06/08/2008 14:59

Yes, I remember liking that "Bingo" song.

Airhead - saw them! Preferred "Funny How" but I can't find a link to that.

UnquietDad · 06/08/2008 15:01

And my favourite Cranes single.

I think they are just Cranes. No definite article. Like Verve used to be.

frankiesbestfriend · 06/08/2008 15:14

The wasn't directed at you, DaDaDa, unless of course that's you in the video with the attractive fringe and the britpop style t shirt

That video was playing on ITV when they interupted coverage to bring news of Princess Diana's crash. A double tragedy, then.

LazyLinePainterJane · 06/08/2008 18:15

OMG UQD...I bought a Ballroom single too!!! I thought I must have been the only person to buy it, even at the time, I thought.....surely no-one else will buy this?

on 7" on course.

UnquietDad · 06/08/2008 18:38

I got the CD single. Better value. 4 tracks. Even if three of them were crap!

LazyLinePainterJane · 06/08/2008 18:48

Haha! Not sure I ever listened to the other track. Awful name, awful band. I liked a lot of them though, I think maybe I felt sorry for them or something, I kept buying all these terrible singles. Anyone remember Arkarna and Medal? Terrible! I also liked Salad and Longpigs and, AND, I saw Geneva live!

taliac · 07/08/2008 10:59

Ha! I can beat that.

I saw live:

Suede, Blur, Pulp, Oasis, Radiohead, all a number of times. And The Divine Comedy, but I don't know that they count.

BUT ALSO (deep breath)

Gene, The Longpigs (more than once), Ballroom, Marion, Geneva, My Life Story, Rialto, Supergrass, Mansun, Salad, Placebo, Sleeper, Ash, Teenage Fanclub, Hurricane #1, Silver Sun, the Bluetones, Spiritualized, Super Furries, Babybird, Dodgy, Cast, Menswear, Echobelly, Saint Etienne, the Boo Radleys, James, The Wannadies Swervedriver, Skyscraper, Shed Seven, The Montrose Avenue, Embrace, The Supernaturals, Octopus, Thousand Yard Stare, The Wonder Stuff, The Charlatans, Ultrasound, Tiny Monroe, Jack, Primal Scream, Ride and the Manic Street Preachers. And more that I currently can't remember.

I was Brit Pop girl, it was my era. Beat that if you can!

LazyLinePainterJane · 11/08/2008 08:28

Personally taliac, I think nothing beats (as mentioned on another thread) my love of Marion that was so great, I declared my first born son Marion. God, I really loved them

I didn't.

Do you remember Straw? I kept all my gig tickets and stuck them to my wall, I loved that one-dayer that Pulp did in Finsbury Park, did you go to that? Super Furries were awesome live.

MegBusset · 11/08/2008 08:33

I once got chatted up by the guitarist from Marion!

LazyLinePainterJane · 11/08/2008 10:00

My 17 year old self would have cried with jealousy, meg

taliac · 11/08/2008 10:42

Wow Straw!

I miss going to gigs every night.

Well, I miss it a bit anyway.

MegBusset · 11/08/2008 12:13

Anyone remember SMASH? They were favourites of mine...

frankiesbestfriend · 12/08/2008 22:39

Isn't the guitarist from Marion in New Order now?

Yes, I remember SMASH, they were part of that whole new wave of new wave thing, with These Animal Men.

Was it that 'suicide is not painless' song, Meg?

I once saw Jaime Harding in a club when I was about 16 and embarassed myself by fawning all over him
