I hate all this Jay Z bashing. He's amazing live. I defy even people who don't like hip hop not to at least admire his live show, even if they don't 'get it'. Better than than some sort of Coldplay nonsensewank. And at least his fans aren't smelly and um, a few of them are not white!

James Blunt on the other hand...

NomDePlume · 27/06/2008 16:11

It has been getting more and more corporate every year though. Was this one planned by Evis' DD ? Is it Emily ?

NomDePlume · 27/06/2008 16:12

The fact that there are still tickets going speaks VOLUMES, imo. Ticket for Glasto used to be like hens teeth.

UnquietDad · 27/06/2008 16:13

I think, like Emily? Has been having more and more influence? In what bands they, like, book? And she's like "We should, like have JayZ this year? Cos he's like really cool?"

TigerFeet · 27/06/2008 16:14

No-one's JZ bashing though - it's just not the type of music that your average Glastonburyite will be all that interested in.

Yup NdP I think you're right - Michael Eavis is pretty much in retirement isn't he?

Never been myself but would love to - but I want to go and see guitar bands because that's the music I like and the music I would expect to find there.

cardy · 27/06/2008 16:14

I have to say the line-up on the main and prymid stages doesn't do anything for me, but would like to be there and see stuff of the other stages/tents.

NomDePlume · 27/06/2008 16:15

Well I hate Jay-Z and his sexist crap but regardless of whether or not he is my cup of tea, he is simply not Glasto.

UnquietDad · 27/06/2008 16:15

maybe JayZ will get bottled off like old 50p did at Reading the other year

expatinscotland · 27/06/2008 16:16

I never quite understood the appeal of music festivals.

TigerFeet · 27/06/2008 16:17

I have no idea what sort of crap Jay-Z spouts I have to admit [gimmer]

Did he really UQD? How very amusing

Whizzz · 27/06/2008 16:19

Gilbert O'Sullivan is on the acoustic stage!

Whizzz · 27/06/2008 16:19

Looks a bit damp!

UnquietDad · 27/06/2008 16:19

He did. You'd have thought he'd have taken it like da muthafkkin homey dat he is. After all, I expect he got far worse in da Hood. But no. He ran like a big girl.

MrsMattie · 27/06/2008 16:19

Jay Z's music is not all sexist crap. And bears no similarity to 50 Cent's. It's the sort of thing people who know nothing about hip hop saY, THOUGH, SO i'LL LET YOU OFF

Also, who's to say it's 'not Glasto'? A few snotty muso journalists and Noel fucking Gallagher? I go to Glasto and I love Jay Z. So neh neh

NomDePlume · 27/06/2008 16:21

ROFL @ UQD

Poshpaws · 27/06/2008 16:25

Actually, I agree MrsMattie.

Glasto has had all types of music for a long while. I have been 3 times (94,97,98) and they had/have a Dance Tent, World Music area, a sort of chilled stage where people like Brand new heavies played. I saw Johnny Cahs there and I am NO C & W fan . (He was great btw)

Poshpaws · 27/06/2008 16:26

Obviously I meant Johnny CASH.

MrsMattie · 27/06/2008 16:29

Last time I went to Glasto I shunned the main stage completely. Think it was Oasis? And possibly Paul McCartney or some other 'stopped being talented in the 60s' type...? Yawn). It was still great fun.

cardy · 27/06/2008 16:53

I went in 93, 94, 96 (I know, forever ago!) and spent loads of time visiting other stages and saw people I'd never heard of but had a great time.

queen2shoes · 27/06/2008 16:54

i admit i do not like JZ but that is beside the point. rap and glastonbury just don't go.

OP posts:
cardy · 27/06/2008 16:55

Just seen Glasto on BBC News 24 (what a difference 12 years make!). Looks very muddy!

aDad · 27/06/2008 17:06

He is not my cup of tea at all, but I'm all for it.

It's true rap hasn't been represented there as yet, and there should be a bit of everything. Nobody's forcing you to go and stand in that particular field at that particular time, but I bet a hell of a lot of people will. And I bet he goes down quite well too.
