What's the saddest music video ever ?

I've always thought the song Happier by Marshmallo and Bastille was quite upbeat and fun when hearing it on the radio. The other day when watching music videos on YouTube it came up. So heartbreaking. A lonely isolated girl is given a puppy by her dad. The girl and the dog become close. Gradually the dog ages and becomes sick until it is put down. The most upsetting thing in the video is the girl sobbing at the vets while the dog puts the paw in her hand to cheer her up.
Thankfully the video has a happy ending, which I won't spoil. But check it out.
What music videos do you find sad?

I find the video of Metallica's cover of Turn the page sad and tragic.

It upsets me everytime I see it especially as Ginger Lynne says something along the lines of if she had etc time again, she would do excatlty the same thing with no regrets.
Awful 😖

East 17 - Stay

"Let Me Go" by Gary Barlow . It's quite jaunty and jolly , he's playing the piano in the street .....the song is to celebrate his baby daughter , Poppy who was stillborn

and his song (her song) has been chosen by many many people as their song to say goodbye to a loved one .

The scientist by Coldplay is a pretty sad video

These are the days of our lives, Queen. Freddie Mercury was dying and it's just so very sad.

Yes
You can see how difficult this was for him, the background video (making of DoOL) shows him in make-up , he had to rest , could hardly stand .

Then he looks at the camera and says (to me ) I Still Love You

@roadsyes concrete angel is so sad. It was the first thing I thought of when I read the title! I didn’t think anyone else would say it

Cornishmumofone · 10/05/2026 17:18

Whilst I think Runaway Train is sad, it’s brilliant that 21 out of the 36 featured missing children were found.

Pointless by Lewis Capaldi. Reminds me of the unbreakable relationship me and my son have even though he is in his 30s now!

'Hurt' by Johnny Cash. It was filmed not long before his wife died and she is in the video. He's singing about being an awful destructive person and the looks that pass between them in the video are just heartbreaking.

Back in the 80s the BBC made a TV programme called "The Golden Oldie Picture Show" where they made videos to go with old songs that predated the age of the music video.

They made one for Acker Bilk's "Stranger On The Shore" where a family visited a beach with their dog, but then left him behind (I think deliberately). And it shows the dog trying to play with other dogs and families, but he keeps getting left behind.

In the end the original family come back for him. I'm not sure if he was left deliberately or accidentally, but just the idea of it made me howl!

And it's still the first one that sprang to mind, 40 years on.

Just reading this has immediately brought tears to my eyes, Freddie looked so ill but he carried on and finished it 😥

Novo Amor, Anchor

Although DD2 spoilt it by saying mournfully, "and he's all alone at the end, not even the lobsters are there... I think he ate them"

Dancing with tears on my eyes by Ultravox . Shows end of the world by atomic bomb

This. My dad loved ultravox and he died shortly after I had watched this.

To all the people who suggested this, I found it more creepy and disturbing than sad. Especially the scene where the baby is stolen and the real life profile photos. I remember MTV Europe constantly playing the British and German versions. I've also seen the American and Australian ones on YouTube.

From what I read, the remaining Queen members said how Freddie had lots of make up and baggy clothes in the video shoot to hide the true extent of his declining health. He was still determined to finish as many songs as possible.
