Hi - so have finally secured two tickets for Taylor Swift. Its states minimum age is 14 for standing. My daughter is 11. Will they be checking ages upon entry? How would they do that? Thanks ☺️

I don’t know about age checking. DD went last night and is very keen to chat about it so I’ll ask her. She did say it was exhausting, they got in and were near the front 3 hours early- apparently people were quieting from 6am in Paris. So I suspect it’s for a reason. She’s likely to struggle for so long and if you don’t go early she won’t see much…
Where are you going and how did you get tickets?

toastofthetown · 19/05/2024 18:57

Honestly, it’s highly unlikely your 11 year old will pass for a 14 year old, so she will almost certainly be refused entry. You’d need to confirm with the venue which proof of age they consider acceptable, but as your daughter is too young, it doesn’t really matter.

SummaLuvin · 19/05/2024 19:06

to add, even if the venue let her in the age limit exists for safety reasons and crowd crushes, which would obviously be at higher risk for someone who is a child, it's not that the organisers are buzzkills.

Outside of safety, it's a really long show and might be unrealistic to expect her to last that long standing, TS is on stage for 3 1/2 hours, plus support act, plus getting to the stadium, plus queuing for merch, plus getting a good stand spot... you are realistically looking at 5+ hours. I'm a healthy, fairly fit adult and intentionally sook out seats, even if I'm up and dancing most of the time I will have a seat if I need a break, and I don't have to worry that a loo break will mean my good view is gone. And, unless you have an unusually tall 11yo she might not be able to see that much, everyone else will be at least 14 with most people standing being adults.

MN224 · 19/05/2024 19:08

It’ll be for Dublin. I’m not planning on being very near the front and as we are standing we can move. Even if we had of got seated tickets people usually stand anyway?

My daughter was at Olivia Rodrigo and they asked for id for standing this week.

Tickets from a work colleague. Screens will help to see!

What ID did your daughter have at 14? Thanks

I honestly don’t know how they can refuse though if I say she is 14? How can they even prove it?

They’ll want to see ID for a child standing. standing is much harder to see anything than seated, unless tall or near the front, as it’s not tiered. Seated is usually tiered.

They can refuse entry, especially if she doesn’t look 14. Can use passports for id.

It could be a case of that's their policy and if they question it, it's up to you to prove it and they have the right to refuse entry until you do. Like serving alcohol, if there person serving expresses a doubt the onus is on the person to prove otherwise, otherwise the doubt stands, and legal implications exist as you can't claim any longer you believed they were of age. As I said earlier, this is for safety. Birth certificate, passport... could be used. As PP you could contact to see what proof they accept, but you don't have proof as your daughter is too young...

SummaLuvin · 19/05/2024 19:16

and yes, it's very much true that seated are mostly standing throughout the show, but there chair is before support act starts, between Paramore and TS, gaps between eras, and if I really need it when TS is on, it's a small reprieve that standing have not got access to.

Will be able to get something to say she’s 14 - thanks! ☺️

Children can get a citizen card, but they will tell from the DOB she isn't 14

Not available in Ireland but thanks

None of the 13 year olds I know got stopped at Olivia Rodrigo, but I did hear they stopped younger looking children. It’s a huge risk on a night that is presumably quite important to your child.

RedBananas12 · 19/05/2024 19:19

I really hate to be a negative Nelly, but there are age restrictions for a reason. Standing consorts are hell for young children. People pushing, jumping around, drinks can go flying. I'm pretty relaxed but wouldn't take an 11 year old standing.

to clarify, I don't know they accept those, just a guess.

But good luck getting a forged document which will contravene rules that exist to protect your daughters safety 👍🏻

Fantina · 19/05/2024 19:20

I think what they might do on the night is ask seated fans to swap seats with you, many fans would prefer to be standing so it’s not like you wouldn’t get a chance to see the concert imo.

Simonjt · 19/05/2024 19:21

We’re at Taylor Swift tonight, every child in front of us had their ID checked, those who didn’t have it were turned away which resulted in lots of tears.

Lamelie · 19/05/2024 19:24

@Simonjt Stockholm? That’s where DD was last night and she said it was amazing.

Thanks! I will be there to protect my daughter utterly confident in my ability as a parent …..sometimes you have to work the system…..it’s called living for the moment and relishing opportunities. Life is too short!!
