"Sonically I haven't found it that exciting."
"But lyrically this is a lot...And there are just so many words to process."
I agree with this.
@BehemothWatermelon
"Nothing is grabbing me as outstanding?"
"A lot of her songs are growers I think so will keep listening on repeat!"
I agree with this to. Midnights grew on me but there were some strong songs that i knew would grow on me right from the first listen or two. I'm still not convinced by everything on it - I was thown by the album - it was nothing like what I had hoped for or expected - I rank Folklore up there with Fleetwood Mac Rumours as a classic of our time.
@ChampagneNightmares
"Better than Midnights IMO."
ATM - I don't feel that at all. Midnights has some songs on it that are always going to be mentioned off the top of your head as some of her greatest songs.

"Like Taylor a lot but does every song have to be about men and relationships?"
@OldHabitsDieScreaming
"In fairness, the vast majority of music is written about relationships. Modern or even classical, it mostly stems from love, lost love, unrequited love, bad love, passionate love etc. I think this is an unfair criticism.that only really ever gets levelled at Taylor."
@User135644 - I've been saying this about modern music for the 20 years I've been writing songs - on the one hand "love" is the most obvious, easiest, most relatable, immediate, effecting and powerful thing to write about BUT - there is such a massive body of work to compete with - it's harder (I've found) to find unique (if not interesting) angles to cover the subject BUT this is what amazes me about the creativity of songwriters - the good ones manage to do this and I just marvel at it sometimes - sadly I find it depressing that so much is often a naive, cliched and amateurish rehash of words and ideas - it's as though some writers have no deep knowledge of the enormous body of work that already exists. I respect Taylor for her songwriting, her craft and her work ethic - I'm not particularly interested in her private life or even in reviews of her work - I really enjoy listening to see what she has done; to hear her work. I have consciously avoided writing any love songs - there are "complex-relationship"songs and everything from songs about paper planes to ekranoplans, anorexia, many written about the deaths of friends (surprisingly), swimming, sleep, depression, other people/friends dealing with difficult things, people that are hard to understand, train rides, acting and acting school, famous people... I won't say I expect good songwriters like Taylor to push themselves outside the broken, blossoming, unrequited love stories but I hope for more interesting subjects - writing any (good) song is hard imho! So @OldHabitsDieScreaming- I don't think it's an unfair criticism or one that only gets levelled Taylor.
@EvenStillIWantTo
"Nothing has stood out so far at all. It all feels a bit one-note and one-speed."
Well - I am a fan her music, writing, performing, singing, voice, her work ethic, the way she is always one step ahead of us - she's a singular phenomenon. I am really struggling to get through the album - after a few dozen listens I have struggled to keep listening beyond the first 4-5 songs; there is too much to take in and nothing feels strong. Lyrics matter to me - it seems like to me like most people don't really care or listen to them - the majority of the people I know are certainly like that - I'm picking up a few odd phrases here and there that are smart and fresh enough to catch my ear but... @OldHabitsDieScreaming - I'm just not feeling it at all ATM; I'm not giving up on it - some of the music that goes the deepest takes the longest time to absorb.
