I thought we could have a thread to chat about playing! I play the piano (not as badly as I fear but not as well as I hope) and have recently tried my hand at chamber music. Would love to hear what other people are doing.

CoteDAzur Here's a picture of the instruments they used in Rameau's Dardanus.

Thank you for your kind words about my sausage fingers' bumbling efforts, Loose Blush Smile

I really REALLY want to play some time in the near future. I have so much already in queue, though....

But it's so fiddly, complex, and heartbreakingly beautiful towards the end. I just love it. Sigh.

CoteDAzur · 27/09/2017 17:38

It's by Rameau. Of course. I can't express in words just how much I love his music. Along with J S Bach's, of course.

CoteDAzur · 28/09/2017 07:31

Eek! That is NOT the piece!

THIS is the piece that I've been really wanting to play, which is so beautiful and heartbreaking towards the end.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 28/09/2017 11:42

So cote where do you place your camera? Grin I suppose you can't take a picture of your camera when you are filming?

On top of the piano, on a box + some books + a DVD box set Grin

Nice! Well done, Never Smile Isn't is SO satisfying to play? I love how this 1st D flows after the strictly structured (and slower) melody of the Gavotte.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 03/10/2017 07:50

The hard part, I find, is to get the melody going without the flowing bit intruding too much. That goes for most of the variations...

Hello! Haven't practiced much lately, life got in the way. Getting back into it now, trying lots of stuff from the 1356 books I bought.
Loose isn't the Chopin Sostenuto lovely, I'm so doing it when I get around to g5.
Lovely videos. I have yet to find a good position for my tablet for recording.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 13/10/2017 07:47

I've been practising. Smile But I can't decide which one to revive next: Beethoven's Pathetique sonata or Schubert's E flat minor Klavierstück:

Hello fellow musicians Smile I’ve gone off the deep end and got properly obsessed in these past couple of weeks, with 3 hours of practice on average, sometimes more Blush I’m a grown woman ffs, what am I trying to prove? To whom? The music keeps turning in my head and I just feel an irresistible need to play it.

I have stayed away from the piano most of the day yesterday, to break the obsession but still did about an hour in the afternoon.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 16/10/2017 15:40

My piano has been tuned. Smile

Cote The second double! A bit substandard, but I don't think I'm going to play a lot better than this ...

OP posts:
CoteDAzur · 16/10/2017 21:07

Nice! Rhythm is tricky towards the ends of both halves in this Double, isn't it? I'm sure that you'll get it perfect in no time.

My teacher added some notes to this Double, saying they were "missing" in my sheet music Confused Grin I'll send you a picture tomorrow.

Broken11Girl · 17/10/2017 00:25

Very good Never, like your yellow walls too Smile
I will record stuff one day.
Am tempted to get a clarinet...ShockGrin

CoteDAzur · 17/10/2017 07:04

I’m starting singing (choir) tomorrow Smile

DH went like this > ShockHmm

I reminded him that I have been considerate enough to postpone my plans of starting the organ as 3rd instrument & practicing in the church across the street Grin

LooseAtTheSeams · 17/10/2017 08:00

Never that was lovely - sounds too tricky for me but lovely all the same!
Cote Smile at the organ but it sounds like it could be fun!

NeverEverAnythingEver · 17/10/2017 08:12

If I have a church across the street with an organ I can practise on I don't think I'd even consider DH's opinion ...

OP posts:
CoteDAzur · 17/10/2017 14:03

The organ would be OUTSTANDING. Imagine. Ringing a church with the deep (and LOUD) sound of the organ Grin

DH was getting worried because this music obsession has already is taking over my life.

I relented in the end because each new instrument is a commitment to spend even more hours practicing and I'm already doing so until my arms hurt nearly every day and ignoring work as well as DC in the process Blush

NeverEverAnythingEver · 17/10/2017 15:09

Loose I don't know what "grade" the Gavotte might be, but note-wise I don't think it's very hard. Have a go! It's quite fun to play. I got the sheet music off IMSLP.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 17/10/2017 15:10

Broken If DH has his way the entire bloody house would be painted yellow. Grin

CoteDAzur · 17/10/2017 16:04

“I don't know what "grade" the Gavotte might be, but note-wise I don't think it's very hard.“

Oi! Learning it nearly broke me Shock and also hugely improved my technique & ability on the keyboard Smile

Grin

OK the first few doubles are doable. The last two? Well ... But you don't have to go that fast!

OP posts:
CoteDAzur · 17/10/2017 16:34

I thought Doubles 3 & 4 were pretty challenging, too!

In all, though, G & 6 Ds has been a landmark piece for me as an amateur musician. I made a huge leap forward with it, doing stuff I never thought I’d be able to do in such a short time Smile

And it’s a fantastic piece of music. Such a joy to play!

NeverEverAnythingEver · 17/10/2017 17:00

I'm not saying I can play them that well. Grin Just that they are doable.
