I thought we could have a thread to chat about playing! I play the piano (not as badly as I fear but not as well as I hope) and have recently tried my hand at chamber music. Would love to hear what other people are doing.

CoteDAzur Here's a picture of the instruments they used in Rameau's Dardanus.

Grin

Clearly you need to invest in a monk's robe.

What happened here? Monk's robe? What? ConfusedGrin

CoteDAzur · 08/06/2017 07:56

Never - Thise two links are not the same piece. Am I missing something?

I like the 2nd one better, possibly because the 1st is so familiar.

2nd one made me think of that line in the film Amadeus:

"How do you like my music, your highness?"
"Mmmm not bad but... how do I say it.... Too many notes. It has too many notes. Rewrite it with less notes."

Grin
NeverEverAnythingEver · 08/06/2017 08:21

It should be this one! It's one of those things that continues playing something else ...

Brahms certainly wrote for a piano that has a range closer to the modern piano!

Alexandra Grin I dare you to turn up in a monk's robe next time!
I'm looking forward to listening to the Brahms later when I have headphones - although it would cheer up my tube journey!

CoteDAzur · 08/06/2017 08:28

Yes, that's the one I preferred. Good luck with it!

Did you give up on the Gavotte & 6 Ds? I think I'm more or less ready for a video but my beloved harpsichord has gone to some church for end-of-year exams Angry and won't be back until Monday.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 08/06/2017 09:59

I'm still playing the Gavotte. Smile

Lots of notes for the Hungarian Dance - the trick is to make them work together .... Haha ... But Brahms is not a friend of small hands ... Still, I love those big jumps and big sounds.

Grin Grin at your wardrobe malfunction Alexandra and at cello slapper, it is an um interesting position (not meant in a mean way), beautiful sound though, I'd love to play one day.
The Hungarian Dance sounds very difficult Never
Thanks Loose, I'm struggling with sightreading, I know it's about powering through but I'm a perfectionist, can't cope with not correcting mistakes.
So good news. The credit union approved my loan Grin I will soon own a digital piano!

Broken11Girl · 08/06/2017 22:05

Thank you both Smile so excited.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 08/06/2017 22:17

So exciting Broken! Pics when you get it!

Alexandra black trousers are my standard work wear too!
Well done on the new piano Broken that is great news!

NeverEverAnythingEver · 11/06/2017 21:10

Anyone managing any practice?

I can now play the last 2 pages of the Hungarian Dance at sloth pace.

OP posts:
CoteDAzur · 11/06/2017 21:21

I haven't been getting any practice at all this weekend Blush

On the plus side, my lovely harpsichord will be have come back by now and I can go and play it again tomorrow Smile

Broken11Girl · 12/06/2017 20:54

Thanks both Smile sure I can provide a pic Never
I want to get glammed up in an evening dress and perform now! My work wear used to be black trousers too, tend to be more informal now.
Tut Cote Grin unlike you! Glad for you about harpsichord.
I had naughty evenings off practicing Fri and Sat, did a bit yesterday, off to do some.

CoteDAzur · 12/06/2017 22:45

Well, I was reunited with my lovely LOVELY harpsichord today and managed slightly over two hours on it Smile

LooseAtTheSeams · 13/06/2017 19:07

Yay! Cote that's brilliant news!
Well, I am slowly making progress with Waltz in A - am now playing the difficult bits hand together but will need to give them serious Cote-style dedication. On the other hand my teacher is very pleased with progress so far and even pleased with my scales!

Broken11Girl · 15/06/2017 23:33

Four weeks to go.
Four.
Weeks.
I veer between utter panicked conviction I will fail, and buzzing and proud. I watch videos I recorded myself and can see the difference even a couple of weeks ago.
Scales are mostly ok. Some tricky beasts for fingering. I'm happy I'll get there. Pieces are...ok...I play the right notes in the right rhythm. I need to get them to performance standard.
Aural and sightreading are evil. I have all the apps and am practicing. Mainly the singing bits suck.
I have been dedicated today. Half an hour on scales, another on aural, an hour on pieces. Wine
Well done Loose, when's your exam?

Broken11Girl · 15/06/2017 23:53

Oh and any of you musical ladies know what this weird elongated L-shape thing is? Grin In the Haydn.

Instrument players - come and chat!
CoteDAzur · 16/06/2017 07:41

Good luck with all your exams Smile

Broken - I'm sure you'll do well!

I've never seen that weird L, I don't think?

CoteDAzur · 16/06/2017 07:42

Can we see some of those recorded videos? Smile
