@Chrysanthemum5

Are they trolling us with the list of gender options🤔

OMFG, I actually thought as I answered that question '' I bet there's howls of outrage at this question'' and then come to the comments and see this Grin
People from all walks of lives and backgrounds vote shocker.
Anyway, have filled in

Yes. I wondered who would opt for Morris dancing
I did as it looks fun Grin whereas politics isn't and can be stressful/draining.
I chose politics over giving birth though as I've done that twice already and you couldn't pay me enough to want to do it again

Yes - the 'giving birth' question is a really odd choice, and also the 'again' in the wording - there will be many parents or would-be parents on MN who haven't given birth:

  • people on here who are TTC
  • people on the infertility boards
  • adoptive parents
  • step-parents
  • dads
  • mums in a same-sex relationship who aren't the birthing mum

And of course, non-parents by choice, although I recognise MN is billed as a parenting forum, so this is perhaps a more understandable omission.

A rather notorious MNer was/is a Morris dancer. Perhaps MNHQ should have picked something more mundane?
I dare say some politicians Morris dance too.

It's a testimony to the diversity and width of range that comprises the MN population that I'd be willing to bet there is no (non-illegal) hobby that someone on MN wouldn't claim to enjoy.

I've been active on MN for what seems like the dawn of time, and have no idea who the '' rather notorious Morris dancer'' you're referring to is?
Maybe MNHQ are the same?
As in how on earth are you supposed to remember what each poster is into hobby wise or whether they're prolific enough to register their hobbies (although whether they' re so called MN famous or not is surely subjective?!)
You can bet if they'd chosen another hobby you'd have someone feeling picked on, can't win!

Exactly! They were on a hiding to nothing with this approach. All it will do is skew the results because naturally people will champion something they like.

This poster was fond of using the word mundane to describe people with different preferences to her own...

Are you sure you've been here since the dawn of time...or does it just feel that way because you opted for 'never sleep a full night again' over 'get involved in politics'? Grin

Define 'never sleep a full night again'.

If it's 'never sleep a full night again because someone keeps waking you up' that's a different proposition from 'never sleep a full night again because you're able to retire from work for whatever reason and can stay up as long as you like doing whatever you like.'

Sex/gender question is odd. It has the two sexes, then also some genders but you can't pick more than one option such as both female and non binary. I think two questions would work better.

Give birth without pain relief is a bit of a sensitive question for those who would love a/another child. The answers are going to be more determined by whether you'd like another child than whether you are interested in politics.

Report
Plasmodesmata · 22/01/2022 09:51

Svara I thought that. Could be a very tricky question for all sorts of reasons - infertility, loss, birth trauma - and to chuck it in with the more light-hearted examples (I'm assuming morris dancing was supposed to be a joke) seems a little insensitive.

TeenPlusCat · 22/01/2022 13:46

I didn't like the 'give birth again' question, as I have never had the opportunity to give birth at all.
The morris dancing question was a no brainer, I'd love to have a go at it.

It was interesting that the options on the giving birth questions had been switched around from the others. I would love to know the psychology of this and if it was designed that way to give a specific result.

To be fair they didn't ask our gender they wouldn't dare! They just asked
"Are you?" And gave a list of options.

I'm painfully shy I really struggled with the first would you rather. Morris dancing seems fun though and as my job is working with kids watching annoying kids tv is all in a days work.
