Done 😁

Pascha · 22/11/2021 13:43

Done. My thoughts and purchase behaviour surrounding cars are that I will. Run my quite cheap car into the ground, and replace it with another one when I have to. Electric cars aren't really available to me logistically or financially right now.

thenightsky · 22/11/2021 13:53

Done.

Kite22 · 22/11/2021 14:48

The same as what Pascha said.

It isn't that I don't like electric or hybrid cars, or don't think they are the way forward, but they are just vastly more expensive than the budget we have to replace cars.

minimecantrollerskate · 22/11/2021 14:55

I bought a 4 year old car last year after 9 years of my old one. This car will hopefully last me a similar length of time.

I will only buy electric when forced into it and when charging stations are the norm in every single parking space and street. We live in a rural area so its a 40 mile round trip to get anywhere.

I thought it would never complete

We've just bought a 3 year old car, having run our 13 year old Vectra which we hated from when we got it when it was 6 years old into the ground. We've gone back to Mazda - we'd previously had a Mazda6 which we'd loved, but the Mazda3 is plenty big enough for us now Smile - and we expect to run it for the next 10 years, by which time, hopefully, electric cars will be more accessible in price - and Mazda will have improved its pathetic range of 120 miles for its electric car Hmm

NutCheeseBag · 22/11/2021 17:25

Done. Exactly what Pascha said. I’ve never bought a car newer than 10 years old, and I don’t plan to start anytime soon.

CyberPumpkin · 22/11/2021 18:47

Living in a terraced house, an electric car is a ridiculous concept. Just being able to park anywhere on the street is a luxury, if you could, are you supposed to trail a cable across the pavement?!

Catlovermumof1 · 22/11/2021 20:08

Looking to get a new car, have a brand new Audi A1 but then found out I was pregnant and the boot can only fit baby's pram in!! 😭

Sleepinghyena · 22/11/2021 22:03

All of the questions on electric cars were irrelevant to me. I can't afford one. And also I live really rurally and there are very few charging points.

Terminallysleepdeprived · 22/11/2021 22:15

Done. As above whilst I drove a relatively new car courtesy of an inheritance there is no way as a single parent I can afford to even begin to consider electric or hybrid cars.

It is all well and good to decide to scrap petrol and diesel cars but I rely on mine for work so they need to make them significantly cheaper and improve the charging facilities. I live on a terraced house on a main road with no off street parking. I would love to know how in the hell I am.supposed to charge one, my neighbours have 3 cars and take up the whole bloody street most days so rarely able to park anywhere near my house.

Indecisivelurcher · 23/11/2021 06:41

I ran my old car into the ground, and this year went electric. I love it. I am lucky enough to have a driveway so had a charging point installed. It stacks up for me financially as went down to 1 car for the household, the cost of leasing an electric car per month is less than we were paying before to run 2 cars plus petrol.

reallysaying · 23/11/2021 07:06

Done. We can't afford an electric car and my husband's commute and work related driving is too far for the range of an electric car.

I'm CEV and still WFH at the moment thankfully work accommodates this, but the survey didn't.

I would love an electric car.

countrygirl99 · 23/11/2021 07:37

I'm another for whom an electric car is an impossibility until.there are more public charging points as I can't charge at home. The nearest is 8 miles away at a shopping centre I have been ro 3 times in the 5 tears since it opened

Cuck00soup · 23/11/2021 08:14

Interesting and timely survey. We currently have an electric vehicle as a second car, but are now looking at sharing a car between us and are trying to work out the pluses and minuses of electric/hybrid/petrol.

CasparsWineBar · 23/11/2021 12:17

Done!

I'd love an electric car but unfortunately living in a terrace with no off street parking I could not install a charging point so it's not an option for me unless I move house

I wonder if a solution could be to charge a battery inside the house then plug it into a charging point inside your car, while it's parked. Obviously needs new equipment and car design to be able to do that.
SilkLabrador · 23/11/2021 16:57

I'd be more comfortable buying an electric car if I could insure the battery separately, I don't want to be having to fork out £16k+ for one and would rather insure it for x amount each month.

Also I need something for towing horses and nothing I could afford can do that so I'm stuck with a diesel.

TiddlesTheTiger · 23/11/2021 16:59

I recently bought a pre-loved car as my old one failed its mot.
It's the same make as my previous one, but sightly more eco friendly so zero road tax, yay!
And it's metallic blue which is wonderful after umpteen years of boring silver. 💙

wonkylegs · 23/11/2021 18:06

Completed
We've are fortunate enough to be able to choose an electric car (affordability and we have driveway parking plus live in an area with good charging network) and have had one for a year now. A lot of the hesitancy can ease once you get used to them as it requires thinking about driving a little differently but you soon get used to it.
Completely understand why it's not accessible for all though at the moment.
We needed to replace our car due to other factors so we didn't just get a new car to go electric.
