This survey is open to women in the UK who have at least one child and who have taken a break (six months or more) from employment (including maternity, parental or adoptive leave) in order to have children, and who returned to study, paid work, self employment or owning a business after their break.

You do not need to currently be studying, employed, self-employed or a business owner, but you will have returned to study, paid employment or self-employment - even if temporarily - after having a six-month-or-more break for parental leave or similar.

Thanks and good luck!

Done. Interesting! I took a 'hit' on my career (part time work, not moving to more senior roles) BECAUSE I had children. I know when they're older I have the option to progress should I want to work more, but I've CHOSEN this way of life for myself and the DC

I went through the whole thing and my sodding iPhone submitted it without the email address for the draw. Could someone pm me to fix it please?

Interesting idea about the NI I think. I wonder if they do anything like that in other countries.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 18/08/2018 20:27

There is a huge assumption in the survey that career progression is the be-all-and-end-all and that there is blame to be laid. I chose to take a few years off and then to return to work in a part time role because I wanted to.

Makegoodchoices · 18/08/2018 21:27

The problem is the lack of a ‘part time role’ jobs market for professional roles. So if your company offers flexible hours that suit you, it becomes almost impossible to move on.

KatyMac · 20/08/2018 17:16

I thought it was a survey I could do.....I just went on holiday!

Etino · 20/08/2018 19:50

@AnneEyhtMeyer
My thoughts exactly. And it could easily be changed by substituting blame for taking responsibility. Really really focuses on the status of work being only status worth pursuing 🙄

NerdyBird · 21/08/2018 00:30

What an awful survey. There were a couple of spelling mistakes, no attempt to explain what 'career shock' is and an an implied assumption about the age of the person (all the stuff about putting off having children). The questions about offering things like leadership management - well that's nothing to do with being a returning parent and more about whether it applies to your job and whether you've already done it.
But hey, I'm a working mum who's career has been affected by having children so I could do with £100... Wink

Hi moms. Just looking for some insight/advice/ideas. My 1 year old switched to soya milk bcoz cows milk made her constipated. She is back to normal but absolutely loves soya milk so much that she wakes about 3/4 times at night and can polish off bottles like there’s no tomorow and now I think it’s a comfort thing. Her appetite is great and she eats well and drinks water/juice etc. Any advice?

butunlikely · 25/08/2018 21:16

This was an odd survey. My career was obviously affected by having children, as I believe you can't expect to get promoted (for example) when you have worked for a year less than others - even if having children is a great reason for having a year out. So yes, I'm earning less than I would be otherwise because it took a year longer to move up a step but I made that choice and don't 'blame' anyone. I found that an odd concept. Maybe I am just very lucky to have had the choice - but I think the survey is poorly set out in any case.

I tend to agree. Also, I don't know what career shock is so I put don't know.
