Done and looking forward to the results! Reckon there'll be a bit of a surge for Gareth Grin

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 11/07/2018 21:11

Woolly he looks very suave.

Gareth is a good strong name.
I love waistcoats and used to wear my grandfather’ s waistcoat when I was much slimmer. It was a typical black one , with pockets for a watch chain and a silk back to it. I loved it and it made me feel close to him, as it was a wonderful grandfather to me and my brother.

I’ve met Gareth Southgate; I sat next to him at a friendly match between Cardiff City and Aston Villa. He asked if he could borrow my pen...and broke it!!

ScreamingValenta · 12/07/2018 09:04

Done - I don't know who exactly Gareth is though! Not a name I would ever choose as it has negative connotations for me, but it's a nice enough name otherwise.

binkyblinky · 12/07/2018 09:17

I love the name Gareth. I am English and I have a Welsh name, I love Welsh names and Gareth rings Welsh for me!

Also it was nice to see G Southgate looking so smart. Every picture in the World Cup including consolidating the Colombian players, he showed dignity and respect.

If this name makes a big comeback then it's for a brilliant reason!

G for Gent and for Gareth

I went to school with a load of Gareths ,it has no special connotation for me. My son in law has been wearing waistcoats for ages , I like them but not on the football field.

PickAChew · 12/07/2018 12:05

I went out with a Gareth. Utter prick.

vickibee · 12/07/2018 15:48

Names have cycles, all the Gareth’s I know are 40 plus, maybe it will come back in fashion. It is certainly a better option than dele or Jesse in my humble opinion.

FootballsNotComingHome · 12/07/2018 16:03

Done, I think surnames may be the way to go though, there are already some keegans in the world so why not a Kane, Alli, Vardy, Trippier, or Pickford 😂

TaurielTest · 12/07/2018 16:15

My son loves a waistcoat - he's fairly indifferent to football though. I've never met a Gareth I didn't like.

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 30/07/2018 19:57

I only know a creepy Gareth.

I do like a good waistcoat though.

Too late for the survey - but simply had to add that my husband adopted the middle name Gareth! Everyone had middle names in his class at first school except him (his father revolted against middle names because his parents gave him and his brothers terrible ones - there's dirty work went on at fonts back in those days!) and his best friend was Gareth - so - hey ho!

Ironically his GCSE's all came back with his fictitious middle name on - which is pretty funny.

Even now when asked for his full name we put Garety in the middle - just for good measure!

sjonlegs · 25/08/2018 09:05

Oh he wore waistcoats too as a teenager - the garier the better (his mother's influence I don't doubt).

The last time he wore one was our wedding (far more tasteful I might add) but he wouldn't wear one these days (he likes his desserts far too much!)!

I rather like a waistcoat though and a man in a 3 piece suit is very fetching!

A good Scottish name. Congratulations to England on how well they done. Not sure if this comp is still open?
