Here at MNHQ we're interested in finding out more about what our users think about the upcoming EU referendum. On the 23rd June 2016, there will be a referendum to decide whether the UK should remain a member of the European Union, or whether we should leave it.

This survey is open to all MNers who are eligible to vote in UK general elections. Everyone who completes the survey will be put into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £50 voucher for the store of their choice.

Here's the link: www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/F7JW3KW

Thanks

I did this one a few days ago, as I'm on your Insight Panel. (And when am I going to get to win one of the vouchers? I've been filling in surveys for a couple of years now!)

For question 2 I'd have liked a box for 'Other'. So that I could have cited Frederick Forsyth's very measured essay about the mindset of the people who founded the Europe project back in the '50's.

I'm OUT because the EU is fundamentally undemocratic, and does not have any sort of structure to ever redress that situation. I want my vote in national elections to matter, and the way things are going, it's not going to mean anything more than my vote for the local parochial church council.

@LicoriceComfit

Hey MNHQ, just curious, at the Scottish referendum I started a thread and it was deleted because it could breach election protocol.

How come it's now OK to seek views on a referendum? Is it to do with timing (mine being to close to the voting itself)?

Genuinely curious.

Hi Licorice

Don't know if this is the one you mean, but I seem to remember we zapped one on the day of polling itself. It was asking how people had voted, which is basically the definition of an exit poll, and the general rule is that those can't be broadcast before the polls are closed.

Does that sound like the one? If you had one zapped that was just generally asking people how they were likely to vote but wasn't on poll day itself, apols - there must have been something else going on!

Thanks
MNHQ

If you are still undecided and keen to make an informed decision there is a series of interesting podcasts available on www.EUTheJury.uk

Based on the recordings of a weekend citizens' jury event this makes for compelling listening.
No politicians, no soundbites, no insults. Just intelligent debate and asking the important questions.

Thurlow · 31/05/2016 17:05

Some of the questions are a bit vague. Like the migration one, "the effects on Britain" - some people will think less immigration will be a good thing for Britain, some people will think less immigration will be a bad thing for Britain, but both of these things could be qualified as a "significant effect". They'd both be giving the same answer but for drastically different reasons.

I'd say I was fairly informed on current events in the world but feel as though I know nothing about the pros/cons of the EU. I'm going to vote to leave - we live on an island with no connection to mainland Europe other than a tunnel under the Channel. We don't even use the euro! I'm voting leave because I believe that the UK can manage just fine without the rest of the EU and will be able to spend their own money on the important things like the NHS or change the law that says we cant have a straight banana - because it doesn't look nice. Instead of all the scare mongering that's been going on I would have liked the politicians from both sides to list in plain English reasons we should stay or leave. But it's too late now to do that and I'm afraid that people will be to conflicted to go ahead and vote.

Done! I've found all the rhetoric from all the politicians very unhelpful on the subject because everyone is simply pursuing their own political career or being leaned on to present certain views.

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 01/06/2016 09:56

I was actually surprised when I looked at the list of "influencers" as to how how few of them had made any impact on my view and the ones who did were overseas, where my view was "keep your nose out of our business".

NannyMarmalade · 02/06/2016 09:26

Done, but would have appreciated a lying scumbag button. This 'debate' has gone on for far too long. Dead bored with it all.
I am totally fed up listening to the lies (on both sides), the abuse and disgusting manipulation by the media often with underlying racism.

With my head I think we should stay in but in my heart I think we should leave - not sure where that leaves me on the 23rd June Hmm.

I think you only need (6) from trevorct7's post. Do your own research. Read the newspapers, watch/listen to a variety of radio and tv debates, buy a book or two, visit the websites of both official campaigns, read discussion boards like this, etc. Find out what the main issues are and where you stand on them, and how you'd order them in priority.

CutYourHairAndGetAJob · 02/06/2016 21:20

Done, although I've also already voted.

A lot of the questions I had to put 'dont know ' as my answer. This is because there doesn't seem to be a clear plan for what would actually happen if we leave. I've therefore voted to stay, because I think the onus is on the leave camp to make a case for why we should, and I don't think they have.

I agree with the poster who said that most of the politicians who have expressed an opinion, make me want to vote the opposite way!

Natsku · 03/06/2016 10:18

I might have ticked the wrong option for people who "put me off" whatever they were saying - I voted 'unpersuasive'. With hindsight, the fact I that disagree with EVERYTHING they say yes, I'm looking at you Michael Gove was actually a pretty persuasive argument for voting the opposite. Sorry if I've messed up the survey Blush

LicoriceComfit · 04/06/2016 09:16

Possibly, MNHQ - thanks for explaining.
