In the run up to Bumpfest, MNHQ are looking to find out more about Mumsnetters' experiences of pregnancy and birth.

Please complete this survey - it's open to all (female) MNers who have given birth to at least one child.

Please add your details at the end and you'll be entered into a prize draw where one winner will get a £100 John Lewis voucher.

Here's the link again: www.surveymonkey.com/r/bumpfest15

Thank you and good luck!

On pain relief, the point is that in parts of the UK (like Scotland) pethidine is NOT offered at all but diamorphine is - so it's not the "more common choice" - it's not a choice at all Hmm. Maybe the option should be changed to "pethidine/diamorphine".

The wording of the Qs seems to assume that your first pregnancy will always have been the one that led to you giving birth, which is not the case for many women who have experienced miscarriages. I didn't like answering about my first birth when the question was asking about my first pregnancy - for instance, my favourite bit of pregnancy (Q1) is feeling my baby move, but that wasn't something I got to experience in my first pregnancy, which is what this Q asks about. Maybe I shouldn't take the questions so literally, but given MN's sterling work campaigning for better miscarriage care etc it would be nice if a bit more thought went into the wording of things like this.

i was going to fill this in but having got to question about guessing sex of baby in first pregnancy decided not to bother. My first pregnancy ended in MMC and I still consider the fetus we lost my first baby, although I will never know if my gut feeling that it was a boy is correct. My first living baby is a result of my second pregnancy.

It would have been good to have separate questions your first and subsequent births (if applicable) because my 1st and 2nd birth experiences were really different

purplesprings · 03/07/2015 00:15

done

saintlyjimjams · 03/07/2015 06:56

Done - but agree asking Aboit your first birth, then concerns about care for other children was odd. I answered yes then added a note saying that obviously wasn't during my first pregnancy.

AlwaysDancing1234 · 03/07/2015 10:30

Survey completed but it would have been helpful to have separate questions for first and subsequent labours as my 2 birth experiences were completely different.

Thurlow · 03/07/2015 11:30

Done. Could have done with a bit of differentiation between labour and childbirth, though. 2 days of labour was the most painful thing I've ever done but, being rushed for an emcs at 4cm, I wouldn't like to claim I've been through "childbirth".

Providore · 04/07/2015 07:12

This is, extraordinarily for mumsnet, very badly written. Reads much more like a netmums survey.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 04/07/2015 13:15

MN - a lot of people go through horrendous labours without giving birth vaginally.

And to say that diamorphine etc are not commonly used is disingenuous when so many of us end up with sections.

The pain relief list didn't list paracetamol which they always try to fob you off with, diamorphine, spinal blocks or general anaesthetics. FYI I had all of these.

And yes, I consider I have been through childbirth despite not giving birth vaginally. I had a failed induction, 40+ hours of labour, and then an EMCS.
