AnnMumsnet · 11/02/2015 14:22

The UK General Election will be taking place on May 7 2015. We'd like to gather the views of MNers on a variety of topics. Our survey is open to all UK MNers as well as those who are based overseas but able to vote in the UK.

Please find out more background and complete the survey by clicking here.

Add your details at the end and you'll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £100 voucher for the store of their choice.

Thanks and good luck!

Isn't the £5 just a deposit to make sure the key gets returned at the end of term? This has been the case in dd's last two schools.

CalamitouslyWrong · 12/02/2015 19:48

I would have ticket a 'no school, uniform at all' box had there been one.

OTheHugeManatee · 12/02/2015 20:27

Done. Though I'd have preferred a 'Don't know or none of the above' option for some of the earlier questions, like in the later ones - you just had 'don't know' and for a few I felt that none of the options was right at all.

meglet · 12/02/2015 21:37

done. nice to see the csa charges were included.

roneik · 12/02/2015 22:23

On the eve of meltdown they have a poll of the lemmings before they reach the cliff, sounds about right

Orangeisthenewbanana · 13/02/2015 03:32

Completed. For the first time in a long time, I truly have no idea who to vote for. Am just utterly disillusioned with all parties.

nowahousewife · 13/02/2015 07:39

Done. Ashamed to admit there were a couple of things in there I was simply unaware of eg. Charges for child maintanence. Have answered as best I could using the closest option to what I think rather that the exact solution I would like to see.

Good timely thought starter for the upcoming election.

catslife · 13/02/2015 08:52

Done but all the questions about child-care and paternity leave aren't that relevant for those of us with older children.
As a parent of a teenager I am concerned about changes in the exam system and uni tuition fees which isn't covered on this survey.

RowanMumsnet · 13/02/2015 09:19

@Guyropes

who will you be sharing this information with?

has a political party paid for this survey? if so, which one?

No, it's a survey put together purely by MNHQ and there's no third party involvement at all (by political parties or anyone else). In terms of what we do with the results, we're not sure yet - as we explained in the intro to the survey, it will help to shape our election-related content and webchats, and if it turns out that MNers feel very strongly one way or the other about any of the individual policy issues then we might try to make some further noise about it.

Guyropes · 13/02/2015 09:38

Hi rowan,
Thanks for the reply.
Good to know!

projectbabyweight · 13/02/2015 10:20

Very nice to feel my opinions are important - if only to a computer!

vicki77 · 13/02/2015 10:27

I've just completed the survey - I'm not sure if it matters in terms of what you want to do with the data, but you asked who have you voted for and who do you intend to vote for. Who I vote for is different to who I support because I vote tactically. It might have been worth asking a question which reflects this....

ladydepp · 13/02/2015 10:54

This survey has made me realise how little I know about what is going on in this country. I knew nothing about the women's refuge ring fence issue and I know virtually nothing about Trident. I had to put Don't Know to quite a few questions as I just have no clue! Worrying.....

BlueKarou · 13/02/2015 12:49

Done.

Definitely an eye-opening survey; I had to look a few things up to figure out my position. Would be very interesting to see the results.

StroppyPoppy · 13/02/2015 14:05

I've taken part.

It was quite educational reading through the guides with some of the questions.

DinoSnores · 13/02/2015 17:42

I've done the survey but I am getting really tired of the big ribbon popping up despite me closing it down every time I look at a page.

Chewbecca · 13/02/2015 20:32

Quite a thought provoking survey - thanks!

DoctorGilbertson · 13/02/2015 21:37

NAO on legal aid might be a better link?

www.nao.org.uk/report/implementing-reforms-to-civil-legal-aid/

Also why is the NHA Party not on your list? They are fab - I would love it if you got them on for a webchat!

MrsRolandRat · 13/02/2015 22:31

Done

APlaceInTheWinter · 14/02/2015 10:03

I completed the survey but I think the housing section was disappointing tbh. It focused entirely on private LLs which perpetuates the idea that LAs don't have responsibility for providing a solution to the housing crisis which they helped create. There should have been an option/question relating to whether we thought private LLs should be solving the housing crisis or whether the focus should be on spending money on more LA housing.

The other section that didn't seem nuanced enough was the part on immigration. Reducing the immigration issue to a numbers debate (ie is it too high; is it just right; should areas with a high number of immigrants get more funding/infrastructre) feeds directly into the UKIP agenda and allows them to frame the debate. There are problems with how our current immigration system is managed (and I write as someone with friends who work in the system and with friends who have come through the system). It isn't all about numbers and it felt strangely reductive that the immigration section didn't reflect the complicated reality.

Oh dear, you should only have to dismiss it once - will see if we can find out if something's gone awry.

Survey done. Including following link for you to play with.

southwest1 · 14/02/2015 23:42

On the list of who did you vote for/who will you vote for, you list the Greens, SNP and UKIP but miss off all of the NI parties. As much as I hate them, the DUP have more seats than the three mentioned above combined.

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 16/02/2015 15:53

I think that in a survey about voting / politics it would have been interesting to have questions about a) tactical voting and b) voting for a party vs a candidate.

I have one quibble with the text. The question about childcare doesn't make it clear that the proposed "tax break" for childcare is no such thing; it's a subsidy for all working parents with an income under 150,000 even those who pay no tax. It's very different to the previous schemes which really were an actual tax break (and a vast improvement IMO).

johngrady · 16/02/2015 18:22

Done.

And I agree with pp that I am under informed.
Lots to read up on before May.
