You may have clocked that Mumsnet has been running a
Family Friendly Programme for the past three years.

One of the things we want to look at is paternity leave. This survey is open to all UK MNers who have had a baby since April 2011 - and who had a partner at the time.

after I had ds2 I was really ill and was in hospital for 2 weeks. Dh employers were very arsey about him having an extra week. He had to as ds1 has sn and we had no one to look after him as I was in hospital. They knew circumstances but still said we think we might have to find some one else jf you keep needing more time off.

Your survey doesn't make any reference to the fact only employees can get paternity leave. Self employed fathers (and same sex co-parents) get nothing.

It also doesn't make any reference to the fact it's not just biological fathers who can take paternity leave (where eligible). Same sex partners and men who have assumed the role of father/co-parent can take it too, if they are eligible.

There's also no reference to eligibility based on length of service. Some employed fathers just aren't eligible for additional paternity leave because they recently changed job.

Q5 looks a bit funny because it's not looking at the same thing with each option Although that's not necessarily a problem unless you want to find out if those who combined leave had enhanced or statutory leave.

Might be worth adding some info on the survey??

Im not sure if this refers to the immediate period after birth or a longer period.

My DH took 14 days leave and then we shared the 12 month leave: I had 9 months and he took 3 months. So that three months was when DD was 9 months old. How do I answer?

Completed survey but thought that being self employed or not qualifying for paternity pay should be an answer to some of the questions about why your partner did not take much/any paternity leave and why he would not take SPL in future.
