We've been asked by Tilda to find out how you feel about cooking with rice. Please take the survey linked to below - it's open to all Mumsnetters in the UK

Everyone who takes the survey and adds their details at the end will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win £250 of John Lewis vouchers.

Here's the link

In addition, if you're interested in joining the Tilda Taste Panel please email [email protected] and we will pass on your email address and details to the team (no obligation but you will be sent information)

Thanks

Done.

I used to be scared of rice, but only because someone at school persuaded me that it was dried maggots.

I have conquered my fear and we now have a rice cooker, so I have no idea how long you boil it for.

MellowBirds · 30/09/2011 22:16

Done, love rice, love John Lewis, fingers crossed. Strangely patronising language used which sadly makes me think that Tilda is not a brand I'd like to get involved with. Does that mean I won't win? Grin I did tell them my absolutely brilliant cold rice left over recipe though, mix it with hummus and pesto and it is l o v e l y

SazZaVoom · 30/09/2011 22:18

Very weird Q about how long to cook it after putting it in boiled water. I cook mine in cold water Confused

DamselInDisarray · 30/09/2011 22:19

I always use a rice cooker too, unless I'm doing it in the oven (or risotto). I wanted to answer 'it depends on the type of rice and what I'm cooking' to the how long it takes to cook rice question.

Do people really have panic attacks when cooking rice? Weird.

I used to be dreadful at cooking normal rice and would generally avoid it. Then I got a rice cooker and never looked back. Everyone should get a rice cooker. They're awesome.

The kids are obsessed with sticky rice. DS2 has a sticky rice dance he does in anticipation.

Tortington · 30/09/2011 22:29

seriously that survey is weird

its just fecking rice people

jimswifein1964 · 30/09/2011 22:34

Has to be someone's survey-writing not being checked by the boss before giving it to mnhq, surely? Weird weird.

Gincognito · 30/09/2011 22:50

Mellowbirds, elaborate? Those ingredients don't seem like natural partners...hummus?!

FreakoidOrganisoid · 30/09/2011 22:52

Very odd survey Grin

RhinestoneCowgirl · 30/09/2011 23:02

How odd, even the word 'rice' was starting to look strange by the end of it...

Fingers crossed for JL voucher :)

HavePatience · 30/09/2011 23:12

Done. No really bug issues with cooking rice, but I'm worried about it getting to room temp for too long because it grows bacteria (?right?) and never re use because of same reason.

Hullygully · 30/09/2011 23:23

See the most interesting thing out of this is how thick they think we all are. They think we are "mums" who have rice opinions and ishoos, rather than human beings who happen to have tits and maybe kids.

Yes. Cos we is "mums" so we don't have a brain. Just a cooking gene.

They could have just written:

Hey Mums, you know how fick you is an that and can only cook ready meals an that? Please cook our rice cos we is skint. Innit.

PenguinArmy · 30/09/2011 23:42

I enjoyed the 'cooking rice from scratch'

Hullygully · 30/09/2011 23:43

yes, I went out and got mine from the paddy field. Actually I mugged one of those odd chaps in pjs and a cartwheel hat.

PenguinArmy · 30/09/2011 23:45

paddy fields will replace chicken runs in peoples gardens this time next year

Honeydragon · 30/09/2011 23:53

Is that why all those mps have islands for their ducks? In preparation for the paddy fields?

I really don't understand what they were trying to get out of that survey. And I can honestly say I have never found rice scary or challenging, till now. What do Tilda know about rice that we don't? Has been genetically modified to leap out the cupboard and batter you with a tin of spaghetti hoops if you reach for the pasta instead of the Basmati?

Thumbwitch · 30/09/2011 23:58

heh. OK, I have now taken the rice survey. I admitted to being scared of cooking something - lobsters/ crabs, because I couldn't stand the screaming. That should sort em out! Grin

Thumbwitch · 01/10/2011 00:03

HavePatience - yes - if there were spores in the rice, and the rice is kept between room and body temperature for any length of time, the spores will germinate and release bacteria (Bacillus cereus) which can give you food poisoning. However, rapid cooling of rice and cold storage will prevent this - it's extremely rare for this to happen in the home, takeaway rice is the danger because they cook large vats of the stuff and keep it simmering away in the background.

StellaAndFries · 01/10/2011 00:05

I hate cooking rice and have resorted to boil in the bag or microwave rice. Wouldn't go as far as to say I have panic attacks though Grin

MellowBirds · 01/10/2011 00:10

Incognito, that's it really, just stir hummus and pesto through cold rice and it tastes fantastic, dc love it, as do I.

Mumcentreplus · 01/10/2011 00:19

What is with the weird questions???...scared of canned fruit???

unless they were 'Killer tomatoes'..Hmm
