V V odd.

Some rice takes 10 mins, some 30.

And who has a panic attack over rice..?

Why not just ask directly for suggestions about how they can sell more rice?

said · 30/09/2011 18:31

All the questions were odd because I cook rice (flawlessly, without fear) in the microwave.

JohnHemmingsPussy · 30/09/2011 18:34

RICE

SAUCEPAN
BOILING WATER

12mins
then drain and serve

how hard can that be?

schroeder · 30/09/2011 18:36

Done.

Not scared of rice, but dh is Hmm.

We have a lovely micro rice cooker fro M&S easy peasy non sticky rice.

titan · 30/09/2011 18:53

Weird survey! We have a very cheap microwave rice cooker from Amazon. 12 minutes of full power. Perfect very time. Although when I asked DH to make it last night he added equal amounts of rice and water so it didn't cook properly. Neither of us were scared by this. I moaned a bit about him being unable to cook, added more water and put it back in the microwave and it was fine.

HazeltheMcWitch · 30/09/2011 18:55

Dreadful survey; they have obviously gone into it DETERMINED to 'prove' certain things. Tidla - be ashamed, this is very poor marketing practice, you've thrown money away on a worthless survey that will teach you nothing, and you are being mocked my MN-ers who are Not. Afraid. Of. Rice.

swallowedAfly · 30/09/2011 19:21

i use a rice cooker and only use jasmine rice which cooks beautifully - problem solved.

bit weird doing that survey as a rice cooker user - i have zero clue how long 100g of rice takes to cook and would never cook rice in a pan as it is not nice. sure it's already been pointed out that it seems to assume everyone cooks rice in a pan.

swallowedAfly · 30/09/2011 19:21

who has a panic attack over cooking rice ffs?

PeachyWhoCannotType · 30/09/2011 19:28

The survey made me laugh, really fab

I want to meet people who are scared of cooking tinned tomatoes. Not even fresh needing a knife note, but tinned.

I will suggest they drink more wine.

fivesacrowd · 30/09/2011 19:34

Done - stupid survey. No I'm not scared of tomatoes and I don't reheat rice cos it harbours food poisoning bacteria and that's why your not meant to reheat it. Can I have the vouchers because I knew that?

PeachyWhoCannotType · 30/09/2011 19:35

Whose halloween name will be ScaryTinnedTomatoes do ya reckon?

doughnutty · 30/09/2011 19:41

Done.
Panic attacks over cooking rice? Really? Just don't do it then - life's too short.

hormonesnomore · 30/09/2011 19:41

Done - how bizarre - scared? Panic attacks? Wtf?

If you really can't cook rice, try the easy-cook variety, it is very easy and I always get a good result - I buy the brown variety.

hormonesnomore · 30/09/2011 19:43

I didn't know that fivesacrowd - I often re-heat rice. I'll be more careful in future!

PenguinArmy · 30/09/2011 19:47

wtf??

Do they get you to pose the Q's, I really questioned the authenticity of the whole survey.

exexpat · 30/09/2011 19:51

Done, but was Hmm the whole way through. Scared of rice or everyday foodstuffs? What?

And we are such heavy rice eaters that I use a rice-cooker, so a lot of the things about methods were irrelevant.

I suspect that this is pre-promotion for some kind of easy-cook/preportioned/microwave/whatever sort of rice product. Which I won't be buying.

glub · 30/09/2011 20:06

never mind cooking it. that's easy. follow the instructions on the pack right? it's more the kids throwing it all over the floor and it getting stuck in the cracks aspect that's the problem. ditto couscous.

SpeedyGonzalez · 30/09/2011 20:36

Why did they ask how long rice takes to cook? Do they know anything about rice? Basmati/ easy grain/ whole grain all have very different cooking times. Surely a company that specialises in rice should know that? And besides, they are assuming that you pour boiling water into the pan, which lots of us don't.

Yes, this is a very strange survey.

violetwellies · 30/09/2011 20:38

Done, & I do rice in a glass jug in the microwave & never remember how long boil & how long simmer, and I cant say it seems to matter.

swallowedAfly · 30/09/2011 20:50

rice is fine to reuse/reheat so long as you have it cooled and in the refridgerator within an hour of finishing. i know we all believe rice kills us with it's mega bacteria reproducing capacities but it really is if we leave it lying around not if it is quickly and properly refridgerated.

people the whole world over cook rice and reheat it.

TheSkiingGardener · 30/09/2011 20:51

Done, but Tilda, what are you really trying to find out here?

cleanandclothed · 30/09/2011 21:17

Done but I agree this is terrrible. Clearly after stats like 'x% of people are more nervous of cooking rice than anything else' and 'x% of people throw rice away because of overcooking or cooking too much'.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 30/09/2011 21:20

Oh God, now I'm convinced I'm going to die. DH had his dinner at about 7.00, left mine on the side and I reheated it about 8.30. I'm doomed aren't I?

Can I do the survey again? I'm proper scared now!

AtYourCervix · 30/09/2011 21:38

if i were to try to cook rice i'mfairly sure i would panic, puke and burn stuff. but i don't have to. that's wat DH is for.

And reheated rice has never poisoned me. I have it about once a week the next day for lunch usually after it has been sitting in my bag for 8 hours or so.

idealism · 30/09/2011 21:40

done this - would be nice to win!
