We've been asked by Central YMCA to find out how you feel about postnatal exercise. If you've had a baby in the last 3 years we'd very much like you to complete this survey about this topic - regardless of what level of exercise you did Grin.

The survey is open to all UK MNers who've had a baby in the past 3 years.

~ If it was your first baby you should be at least 3 months post-partum to take part.

~ If you have had more than one child in the past 3 years, please answer about the most recent one (unless it was very recent - you should ideally be 3 months post-partum).

Everyone who takes part and adds their details at the end will be entered into a prize draw to win £200 of John Lewis vouchers.

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw

I've answered it but I think it could do with some more options - I look like I don't do any exercise at all from the tick box options but I do several miles a day with the double buggy just getting from place to place.

AnnMumsnet · 23/09/2011 11:06

PelvicFloorsOfSteel - good point - have added 'other' to list at Q2. Will tweak your entry

Done whilst waiting for physio app't Grin

PuzzleRocks · 23/09/2011 11:15

Done. I love the idea of online classes. I worked out at home as I did not want to use the creche with a very small baby, nor could I have afforded to do so on top of the cost of the class.

Filmbuffmum · 23/09/2011 12:09

Why such emphasis on the first three months after giving birth? At this point I still didn't feel like doing anything except sitting on the sofa breastfeeding, and occasionally walking with the buggy. Joined a running club when DS2 was 6 months, and lost over a stone within a few months, but am quite sure that any attempts to do so any earlier would have been lost amidst the sleepless nights etc. There are enough pressures on new mothers without worrying about getting back into a pair of jeans when the baby is still so little!

headfairy · 23/09/2011 12:22

same as filmbuffmum, I'd had my second section after I had dd, I couldnt' straighten up for 6 weeks so there was no way I was going to be doing any exercise in the 2-3 months after she was born. Plus it was midwinter, there was snow on the ground for at least a month. No way was I going out running in that. I joined a buggy fit class when she was 4 months old and went for over a year. My responses obviously won't reflect that. But then it possibly wasn't considered postnatal exercise after 4 months.

AnnMumsnet · 23/09/2011 12:36

Good point Filmbuffmum and headfairy - we've amended to being about the first few months (once you're up and about) after giving birth.

I was just about to complain about it being the first 2/3 months and have filled in the older version Grin
My baby is now 11 months old and I am now seriously trying to get into shape. Couldn't of cared less before now.

DamselInDisarray · 23/09/2011 13:20

Same as other people, I didn't care at all about exercise until DS2 started sleeping properly and I had some energy to spare. For man of us sleep deprivation goes on well beyond the first few months.

PuzzleRocks · 23/09/2011 13:23

Damsel - I feel your pain. Mine didn't sleep through until each of them were two. However, I found second time round that exercising actually alleviated that awful zombie like feeling. I'm not sure how but it really helped.

tigercametotea · 23/09/2011 13:44

Done !

doughnutty · 23/09/2011 14:25

Done.

dinkystinky · 23/09/2011 14:54

Done - though I never win any of those draw thingys.

Fillybuster · 23/09/2011 14:55

Done. Would definitely have used online classes post-partum, and would now, too...

trixymalixy · 23/09/2011 19:34

My two didn't sleep through until 18 months and also didn't have the energy to do anything before that.

PeterSpanswick · 23/09/2011 20:35

I'm obviously a bit of a weirdo - I couldn't wait to get back in the gym and burn ditch my maternity wardrobe! Exercise was the only thing that shook that sluggish, stuck-to-the-sofa feeling for me although I was lucky enough to have two straightforward births so imagine that was a major factor in how I felt afterwards both times.

StrikeUpTheBand · 23/09/2011 21:11

Hi AnnMumsnet!
I missed out the 'l' at the end of the word 'hotmail' in my email address when I did the survey. Please can you bear this in mind for the purposes of prize draws?

Thanks Smile

PuzzleRocks · 23/09/2011 21:50

I think it also helped that breastfeeding mine never took longer than ten/fifteen minutes at a time. I have friends whose babies, in the early months, would be latched on for the best part of an hour.

DuelingFanjo · 24/09/2011 00:10

done.

I was the only one of my NCT group not doing any excercise. They all seemed really keen to get out to buggy fit. I prefered to stay in bed eating cake.

PontyMython · 24/09/2011 07:42

Done. That's my exercise for the day :o

SilveryMoon · 24/09/2011 07:55

Done, although I didn't do any exercise after ds2 was born and never attempted to, so not sure how much help my answers will be Blush

lexa2011 · 24/09/2011 15:14
