1. Which attractions and experiences did you visit at LEGOLAND Discovery Centre? We visited LEGOLAND City of Champions event, Kingdom Quest ride, Merlin’s Apprentice ride, MINILAND, LEGO City soft play, LEGO Friends area and the Coffee Shop. Our visit was during the “quieter times” where they turn down the music and make it a lot more SEN friendly. This was perfect for us as our daughter is Autistic, however, as you enter the first part of the experience, the first activity is to save the princess in the Kingdom quest ride. It wasn’t until we got to the front after queuing for 5 minutes that we were told “ this ride is quite loud, okay?” By this time our daughter was so excited we couldn’t drag her away. For her it was okay as she was distracted so the noise was dulled because of the lights and activity, however, this isn’t always the case and sometimes it’s too much at other places and causes ALOT of distress to her if we have to take her away. I think it could have been thought out better, especially when it’s specifically a “quiet time” to visit.
2. What was you and your children’s favourite thing about LEGOLAND Discovery Centre? She LOVED the softplay and Merlin’s apprentices ride.
3. How would you describe LEGOLAND Discovery Centre to other families who are thinking of visiting? I would say if you are going for the first time then it’s a nice place to go with the kids, but it couldn’t be a day trip just in there as there’s not that much to do and I found navigating around to be quite difficult for first timers. We had no clue where to go at first and the staff were not approachable or pleasant at all. We are normally used to happy, cheery staff, greeting children and making it fun but there was none of that unfortunately. We were given little Lego cards which we thought was great. It was like a scavenger hunt but they didn’t relate to anything we had seen during our time there and again there was no staff around to ask how our daughter could take part. For a first time I would say go but to also book in at the sealife centre and explore the surroundings as we found so many nice statues and sights around Birmingham city centre that made the trip worth it.
4. Which families would LEGOLAND Discovery Centre be most suited for? I would say possibly 3-6 year olds who enjoy going to these places but don’t like spending too much time there. Our 8 year old had loads of fun but there wasn’t a lot for her to do so she was getting bored quite quickly as she couldn’t use the cards she was given for the hunt and most of the interactive buttons in miniland didn’t work so that ruined that part of it for her.
5. Would you visit LEGOLAND Discovery Centre again? And how frequently do you think a family could visit? I am sorry for my brutally honest feedback but I promised I would be honest. For my family, no I wouldn’t visit again. The staff were not approachable or friendly and didn’t smile at all from when we walk in and scanned our ticket until we walked out through the gift shop. It was a very cold atmosphere. We enjoyed the rides and my daughter loved the softplay but for the price someone would normally need to pay it’s just not worth it. I would just pay £8 for our local softplay and let her go there as I think for the overall experience from the unfriendly staff, lack of direction in terms of the activities, the mini land interaction part not fully working and the fact that there wasn’t a character to meet there for the 2 1/2 hours we were there I just don’t think it’s worth it. I would say a family would visit once and that would be enough. Thank you so much for selecting it. We are ever so grateful for the kind invite and allowing us to spend the day at legoland Birmingham. I am grateful to Mumsnet and legoland but I wouldn’t return to Birmingham BUT we have decided to make sure we visit Legoland Windsor in the summer as we think that might suit our family better.

• Which attractions and experiences did you visit at LEGOLAND Discovery Centre?
We did the two rides, the soft play, the 3D cinema, mini world and the build stations.

• What was you and your children’s favourite thing about LEGOLAND Discovery Centre?
My children are 8 and 5 and they enjoyed mini-world, soft play and the rides but the thing they enjoyed most was the 3D cinema.

• How would you describe LEGOLAND Discovery Centre to other families who are thinking of visiting?
As an afternoon out for younger children.

• Which families would LEGOLAND Discovery Centre be most suited for?
Families with younger children. If I lived locally and had preschoolers I would consider getting a season ticket to visit on weekdays in term time.

• Would you visit LEGOLAND Discovery Centre again? And how frequently do you think a family could visit?
I think with preschoolers they could visit regularly if they have a season ticket. We found the day would have been very expensive if we had paid full price for what was there. We would probably visit once or twice a year if we got discounted tickets (we are about an hour away from Brum).

• What was you and your children’s favourite thing about LEGOLAND Discovery Centre?

The soft play area went down really well, plus the Lego friends/Lego dots and Grand Prix creating areas.

• How would you describe LEGOLAND Discovery Centre to other families who are thinking of visiting?

It’s obviously very different to the big Legoland park in Windsor, much smaller and indoors - so you need to manage your expectations to that extent. But we had fun.

• Which families would LEGOLAND Discovery Centre be most suited for?

It’s mainly best for children aged 3-10 to really get most benefit from it. Any older and you’re limited on the number of activities that are suitable - my 12 year old is Lego-mad but apart from the building areas there wasn’t much that held his attention.

• Would you visit LEGOLAND Discovery Centre again? And how frequently do you think a family could visit?

We wouldn’t make a special trip as Legoland discovery Birmingham wasn’t local for us. Would consider it for the 7 year old who got the most out of it. If we lived locally (and it was cheaper, as it’s quite expensive for what it is), I could see us going 1-2 times per year.

What was you and your children’s favourite thing about LEGOLAND Discovery Centre?

My children's favourite part was the 3D cinema and VR ride. My favourite was the coffee shop!

How would you describe LEGOLAND Discovery Centre to other families who are thinking of visiting?

This is a tricky one as although we were delighted to take part, the overall experience was not great. Staff were rude, it was challenging to get an understanding of the setup and how things worked. No one was at hand to explain the photos, the packages etc. We were waiting for the rides to open and staff arrived late. No apology or acknowledgement. Overall staff appeared disengaged.

Which families would LEGOLAND Discovery Centre be most suited for?
Parents with toddlers up to 6yrs. Older children are not catered to.

Would you visit LEGOLAND Discovery Centre again? And how frequently do you think a family could visit?
In short, no. I don't think it appeals to revisit. Perhaps younger children would revisit as you do a soft play perhaps.

1.Which attractions and experiences did you visit at LEGOLAND Discovery Centre?

We went on both rides, watched a movie in the 4D cinema, did the Master Model Builder workshop, explored MINILAND, went into LEGO City soft play, played with Lego Dots and went into the cafe.

2.What was you and your children’s favourite thing about LEGOLAND Discovery Centre?

Our boys are 6 and 8 and really enjoyed the 4D cinema. My 6 year old really liked the master model workshop where he built a snail and I liked that this meant he got given a little bag which he was told to fill with lego dots to take home and play with later.

3.How would you describe LEGOLAND Discovery Centre to other families who are thinking of visiting?

I would say there's lots on offer but it's more suited to younger children (my eldest got a little bored as we had just visited Alton Towers the week before for his birthday which he absolutely loved).

4.Which families would LEGOLAND Discovery Centre be most suited for?

Families with pre-school age children up to 6 would be ideal (or older if they really like lego) on account of the soft play being small and the rides very tame.

5.Would you visit LEGOLAND Discovery Centre again? And how frequently do you think a family could visit?

No, I'm very grateful to be selected and given the opportunity to try it out but I think once you've done it once, there isn't a need to come back. Particularly as it's not local to us so was a 2 hour drive. I would say it's not a day out you'd keep repeating as it's expensive for what is included (particularly compared to Alton Towers).

Which attractions and experiences did you visit at LEGOLAND Discovery Centre?
We went on the merlins apprentice rides, kids tried out the Lego VR race and were really thrilled, we went to see the movie in the 4D Cinema which was an experience in itself!

What was you and your children’s favourite thing about LEGOLAND Discovery Centre?

I really enjoyed the rides, the cafe was nice, the kids loved playing on the softplay area.
How would you describe LEGOLAND Discovery Centre to other families who are thinking of visiting?
IMO it is quite expensive for what it is and I would definitely reccomend visiting on a weekday, as we went on a Saturday and it was PACKED.
Which families would LEGOLAND Discovery Centre be most suited for?
I definitely think families with younger children no older than perhaps 8. My eldest was poorly so couldn't come with us but at almost 12 I think she would have been bored, as its all geared at younger ages imo.

Would you visit LEGOLAND Discovery Centre again? And how frequently do you think a family could visit?

Absolutely! My younger two had so much fun and it certainly tuckered them out! I would probably visit 2/3 times per year, funds permitting.

• What was you and your children’s favourite thing about LEGOLAND Discovery Centre?
My child - making and racing cars
However - it was really difficult for us to make the cars as although there were some instructions, the parts referenced were really difficult to find, it seemed that there were not enough parts for the number of children there.
My favourite part was miniland although there were parts of this not working.
Disappointed that there was no Lego expert and the creative workshop was not open.

• How would you describe LEGOLAND Discovery Centre to other families who are thinking of visiting?
A nice morning or afternoon out if you have young children and are not short of cash! Be prepared for a lot of noise. Also do your research before going - once you're there it's difficult to figure out where to go/what to do and not any guidance.

• Which families would LEGOLAND Discovery Centre be most suited for?
Those with young children who are into Lego and are happy to spend the money - it's an expensive attraction.

• Would you visit LEGOLAND Discovery Centre again? And how frequently do you think a family could visit?
No. I am grateful for the chance to visit for free but do not think the price of tickets represents value for money. There is not enough to do and even the stations where children can build things are not well stocked so it is frustrating for them. The few staff around did not interact with customers and it was difficult to make sense of the challenges on the lanyard that we paid for. All in all it did not live up to my expectations.

We did the ride at the start, the wizard ride, cinema, soft play, mini city, Lego dots/friends and building racers and earthquake proof buildings.

in all honesty? I think they love the shop the most! We enjoyed everything about our visit

a short visit, good fun for a few hours but tricky to manage two children with different interests

we’ve actually been three times but this was my first with two children, it is expensive but worth it as a one off, we went up on the train and got a taxi which is a novelty. I wouldn’t be happy paying nearly £60 for three people.

We were given a pack at the start which had cards to collect but we didn’t see anywhere on the way round to get the cards from? We did see an empty station in the shop that looked like you could build something to try out on but it wasn’t manned and had no Lego or cards on it?

We visited:

There were no character meet and greets during the time we were there. We did pay for the Easter activity pack to get stamps, but both books fell apart after we'd done two stamps, so we stopped looking.

What was you and your children’s favourite thing about LEGOLAND Discovery Centre?

The children (3 and 6) enjoyed the 4D cinema and the soft play the most. Me and DH enjoyed MINILAND and the coffee shop (although the tea was literally hotter than the sun).

How would you describe LEGOLAND Discovery Centre to other families who are thinking of visiting?

It's a fun couple of hours for children who are into LEGO.

Would you visit LEGOLAND Discovery Centre again? And how frequently do you think a family could visit?*

We think that LEGOLAND Discovery Centre is best suited to families with children between the ages of 3 - 8. Any older than that and there isn't a lot to capture their attention.

We've visited the Manchester Discovery Centre previously (which is bigger and, to be honest, better). I think we would visit again.

At most a family would visit once a year. There just isn't enough variety and experiences to keep a family visiting more often, but I'd recommend it to families who do have children with an interest in LEGO.

Also, some general feedback:

The ticket price is quite high for the attractions on offer, especially when you consider a general soft play area is around £8 and much bigger than the one here.

There were lots of things not working in MINILAND, and the quality of the booklets that were given for the stamp collecting was pretty poor for the £5 they charge for them. Both of ours fell apart.

The building stations didn't have much LEGO in them, especially when trying to build cars for the grand prix trials. We had to hunt around for about 15 minutes to find some wheels.

The staff were generally pleasant, but they all seem quite disengaged.

We did have fun, and would probably return, even though it's an expensive day out for the attractions on offer. We'd still recommend it to other families with children interested in LEGO.

I think it's a good way to spend a couple of hours in Birmingham, great for Lego fans and a very child-focused, safe space. It's also very noisy!

Which families would LEGOLAND Discovery Centre be most suited for?

Families with younger children, I would say up to age 8 would be ideal. It's good for a couple of hours, but not much more to hold attention after this.

Would you visit LEGOLAND Discovery Centre again? And how frequently do you think a family could visit?

I think I would be unlikely to visit again, as my children are probably too old to enjoy it much the second time (they are 7&9). They did have a very enjoyable time, but I could not realistically justify the entrance cost for a repeat visit. The centre was nice, very friendly and felt very safe for children, but think that this is definitely more applicable to younger children.

We (2 adults, 3 children) visited LEGOLAND Discovery Centre during the Easter Break, and this is what we thought:

1.Which attractions and experiences did you visit at LEGOLAND Discovery Centre?

We visited Kingdom Quest Ride, Merlin Ride, LEGO Creative Workshop, LEGO Soft Play, 4D cinema experience.

2. What was you and your children’s favourite thing about LEGOLAND Discovery Centre?
We paid for the creative workshop, which the children all enjoyed. The Lego Master was friendly and helpful and the children all successfully built a LEGO pirate ship which they got to take home, and were also given a free badge which went down very well. The workshop room was cleverly laid out with several stations and the LEGO master was able to show his build via two large tv screens which was great. The children also loved the soft play, although it was very busy and the 4D cinema experience was really great – all of us loved this.

3. How would you describe LEGOLAND Discovery Centre to other families who are thinking of visiting?
It’s a fun morning of activities and a taster of LEGOLAND for LEGO enthusiasts but I would not be prepared for the visit to last very long, and the ratio of value to money vs enjoyment is low as tickets are very pricey. We visited during Easter holidays so it was very busy, so id also be prepared for queues.

4. Which families would LEGOLAND Discovery Centre be most suited for?
We’d say its suited more for younger children aged 2-6 for a few hours of activity.

5. Would you visit LEGOLAND Discovery Centre again? And how frequently do you think a family could visit?
Whilst grateful for the opportunity to visit and provide feedback, for our family demographic (children aged 4, 9 and 10), we would not visit again. This is because its more suited to younger children, although all 3 of my children did enjoy the experience, I would not be prepared to visit again taking into account the cost of the tickets vs other activities we could do as a family and get more benefit from for a whole day. In addition, for us it was a 1hr 30 drive. Thank you Mumsnet for the opportunity of visiting and for providing our opinions – my children in particular loved the fact that they were secret spies for the day, on a mission to provide their thoughts on an experience.

3. How would you describe LEGOLAND Discovery Centre to other families who are thinking of visiting? It is a nice way day out during the winter months as is indoors. but it isn't a full day, just couple of ours, and quite pricey for that

5. Would you visit LEGOLAND Discovery Centre again? And how frequently do you think a family could visit? I would go again if there was a good offer on entry. Maybe once every 18 months or so

Which attractions and experiences did you visit at LEGOLAND Discovery Centre?
we spent a long time playing with Lego and especially with the Lego dots. We used the race and test track, 4D cinema, both rides, went in the shop, visited mini land twice, my younger two went in the soft play

What was you and your children’s favourite thing about LEGOLAND Discovery Centre?
everyone enjoyed the 4D cinema experience and playing with Lego.

How would you describe LEGOLAND Discovery Centre to other families who are thinking of visiting?
A fun few hours for children who love Lego but not a full day out. Wait for a special offer on ticket price

Lego lovers and definitely younger children

Would you visit LEGOLAND Discovery Centre again? And how frequently do you think a family could visit?
I don’t think we would visit again as it’s a train journey away and quite expensive for the time you actually spend there
I didn’t encounter any staff being overly enthusiastic or helpful. The centre was very very busy and waiting for the rides was incredibly boring for my three year old although he enjoyed the rides whilst on them.

Which attractions and experiences did you visit at LEGOLAND Discovery Centre?
We bought the activity pack at the entrance to collect the stamps as we went around.
Me and DD (7) and biggest nephew (7)went on the kingdom quest ride. My littlest nephew (4) was a little frightened by the darkness and not being able to see what would happen on the ride so he chose to stay behind for that ride.
We all loved Miniland so much to look at, we wer all very impressed. We went back to mini land before we left for a second look.
We spent the majority of our time building wheeled vehicles to send down the ramps and race.
The soft play was fun but they didn't spend much time in it. They wanted to play with the Lego more.
We went on the merlin apprentice ride and all enjoyed it very much.
The 3 children used the VR experience and absolutely loved it.
We didn't spend much time in the Lego friends area but DD did enjoy reading about the characters.
The 4d cinema was great fun.
As usual for attractions we left though the gift shop. We were pleasantly surprised the the shop seemed very good value. £8 to build 3 mini figures and 2 for 1 on blind bags and keyrings. The Lego sets seemed to be similar prices to online.
They also got a mini figure each as they had the activity book.
Overall we were really impressed with how much fun they had.
What was you and your children’s favourite thing about LEGOLAND Discovery Centre?
They all really enjoyed Miniland and building wheeled vehicles. I thought the play value in the vehicle section was great. They had really imaginative ideas and seemed to really enjoy themselves. I think over all the fav was the VR experience as it was a first and really captured their imagination

How would you describe LEGOLAND Discovery Centre to other families who are thinking of visiting?
Great for an indoors activity. The price seems quite similar for other half day activities, aquarium, Cadbury world, climbing centres etc. Overall we had a great time.

Which families would LEGOLAND Discovery Centre be most suited for?
Great for Lego loving, imaginative children. We spent about 3 hours here in total and definitely did everything they wanted to do in that time.

Would you visit LEGOLAND Discovery Centre again? And how frequently do you think a family could visit?
We'd probably visit again, but we only do one big spend day out like this approximately every other school holiday so might be a while before we'd go again as there's lots of other places we all want to visit too.

My son loved the 4d cinema best. The rides were also fun but quite short. The soft play was also good but small so didn’t keep them entertained for long.

How would you describe LEGOLAND Discovery Centre to other families who are thinking of visiting?

A few hours of entertainment for children probably under 10. You couldn’t spend the whole day here. We were there about 3 hours and did everything, some rides more than once.

Probably children under 10

Would you visit LEGOLAND Discovery Centre again? And how frequently do you think a family could visit?

Probably not agin for a while, at least a year. It was fun but feel we’ve done it for now.
