We're looking for more Mumsnet users to test out Lollipop; a free, smart shopping assistant which helps you do your weekly food shop and gives you inspiration for meals to cook. You can find out more about Lollipop here. This test is open to all UK Mumsnetters with at least one child who lives at home.

Here’s what Lollipop has to say: “We know that grocery shopping is a time consuming chore. That’s why we’ve launched Lollipop, the brand new way to do the weekly shop, designed with you in mind. We’ll help you get your household essentials in record speed… without forgetting the toilet roll. Often the toughest part of the weekly shop is deciding what to eat but Lollipop will have you effortlessly cooking new yummy meals the whole family will love.

Today we’re building features that make the shop quicker, giving you valuable time back (if you promise to treat yourself with it). In future, we’ll make it easy to share the responsibility with the rest of your house, until eventually, Lollipop will just do the shop for you. We’re just getting started so your feedback is critical to making sure that we build something which changes your life. Yes, we want it to be that good! So don’t hold back, tell us what you think, and join the shopping revolution.”

Selected testers will need to use Lollipop to order their next online grocery shop via Sainsbury’s (please note there is a minimum shop value of £40). If you don’t already shop via Sainsbury’s online, Lollipop can help you create a Sainsbury’s account.

After testing Lollipop, testers will need to give their feedback via a thread on Mumsnet and complete a short survey. As a thanks for their time, all testers who leave the required feedback will receive a £10 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

If you’re interested in taking part, please sign up here.

Thanks and good luck!

@Deedee75

I've just had an email to test this, following one a few weeks ago to say I would be in a later group. I don't think I'm going to be able to complete it, my family wouldn't eat hardly any of those meals in the meal plan, and those they would I'd want to change some of the items, or it's something I already cook and follow my own recipe. I then noticed you could just do a grocery shop so thought I'd try that, and I've given up - you can't sort, and everything is in a random order in each category, and you can only search from the main page, and also have to go back to this each time to go to a different category. Plus there's an awful lot of stuff that I'd normally buy from Sainsbury's (or any food shop) that I just can't find on there at all.
Similar experience to me then. It's pretty crao, isn't it?! At least you found out how to search for groceries, I gave up!

I've just given it a go. Having used gusto / hello fresh in the last year, I can see what they are trying to do. Interesting concept, I have ordered three meals for the five of us. I liked that it tried to group ingredients, some errors i.e. two different recipes called for butternut squash - I had to manually change one option from precut squash (expensive!) to a whole squash.
I don't normally shop at Sainsbury's, so it was definitely more expensive. Probably better value than meal prep boxes though, and I was able to take out the ever-present coriander!

Unlike PP's I did find a search function so was able to add milk etc to my shop.

I found my favourites, but haven't yet worked out how to change from items to by weight. After that palaver, I think I'll just amend the order on the Sainsbury's app!

I signed up but there is no nutritional info for the recipes so I gave up. It sounded like a good idea but not practical for me.

I did my shop via Lollipop last week but haven't had a chance to try the recipes yet. At first glance I quite liked the recipe section but having been through the process I'm not so sure...

Despite putting in the 2x adults, 2x children information I later realised that one of the recipes I chose is for 2 people so that was quite annoying.

I liked the ability to untick ingredients which we already had at home. These recipe shopping thingies always assume you are starting from an entirely barren kitchen which is obviously unrealistic so the ability to untick specific ingredients was good.

However, I did notice that some ingredients were branded and some were Sainsburys own brand. For example, Old El Paso Tortilla wraps rather than Sainsburys own brand. I changed them because I tend to buy supermarket own brand but that was just an extra hassle to be honest.

The search function on Lollipop was nowhere to be found. I think I had to go back a page to get a search box. There should be a search box on every single page really.

Also, I didn't quite get why this was new and exciting. Don't all of the online grocery systems have recipes for inspiration? And surely some of them have an 'add ingredients to your basket' button or similar. I think I missed the point of Lollipop. Not quite sure what it is trying to be. There are recipes available on the Sainsburys website and having 2 different systems seems like a load of extra hassle to me.

Also, I've changed my username since signing up. Hope that isn't a problem...

How long does it take to get the feedback link? My delivery was on Tuesday just gone.

RightOnTheEdge · 23/09/2021 17:33

Sorry but I'm another one who tried but gave up. I just dont get the point of it. Supermarket apps do exactly the same thing saving favourites and actually have much more recipe ideas.
The recipes on Lollipop were not very family friendly or budget. My children wouldn't have liked them.
I could also see my shopping was going to end up way more expensive than usual.
Sorry!

needtoseperate · 09/10/2021 08:07

pasting the link won’t work for me but like others I’ve given up I accept that it might be me and I also ran out of money/time. very sorry not to have been able to give it a proper try
