This is the feedback thread for the 60 Mumsnetters who have been testing Crown easyclean paint. This product test was open to all UK Mumsnet users with at least one child aged 1 to 10.

Here’s what Crown has to say: “With over 50 colours to choose from our easyclean® range has been independently tested for the best stain and scrub resistance. With a no shine finish, washable paint is perfect for busy homes. Easyclean paint can be wiped-clean to keep homes looking their best.”

Selected testers were sent 5L Crown easyclean paint in a colour of their choice and were asked to use the paint to decorate a wall or room in their house.

Testers, please give your feedback by answering the following questions as well as sharing any other thoughts you have. Please also ensure you complete the short survey we’ve emailed to you.

  1. What did you think of Crown easyclean paint?
  2. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it?
  3. Was the paint easy to apply?
  4. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean?
  5. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why?

All who give their feedback via both the thread and survey will be entered into a prize draw where one tester will win a £100 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

  1. What did you think of Crown easyclean paint?
We thought it was great. Lovely coverage. Easy to paint and we only needed to do one coat as it was nice and thick.

  1. What did you think of Crown easyclean paint?

It was a great brilliant white. It went on nicely without patching or streaking. The coverage was good as it wasn’t too much thin.

  1. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it?

I tested pure brilliant white. It was a nice bright white that when applied maintained its brightness.

  1. Was the paint easy to apply?

Yes. It was a good consistency so when it was applied it wasn’t too thin. This meant I got better coverage for the area I was painting.

  1. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean?

Yes. I painted the kitchen and with two small children and two dogs we get plenty of marks in the walls. My daughter knocked a bowl of spaghetti bolognese over and it spilt on it and it wiped off no problem leaving no orange tinge. I’ve also had little finger prints and other small marks that have wiped off easily leaving it looking like new.

  1. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why?

Yes. It goes on easily with a great coverage. The colour is nice and bright with no steaks or patches. It wipes clean easily and seems easy to maintain.

  1. What did you think of Crown easyclean paint?
I really liked it, it didn't seem to separate in the tin so i didn't need to spend too much time stirring it. Easy to get the lid off the tin too which is always a bonus and i loved the fact the tin was made of 100% recycled plastic. Well done Crown!
  1. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it?
I tested 'Seldom Seen' i felt it was true to the colour on the chart and i really liked it.
  1. Was the paint easy to apply?
Really easy to apply, i used both a roller and a brush and both worked well - it went on smoothly and i was able to paint the walls quite quickly.
  1. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean?
Yes - i scribbled on the wall in orange pencil crayon (was quite excited ..... i am back in lockdown!) and it did scrub off - i was surprised at how hard i had to scrub and i did then do the same on another (not in this paint) wall and that actually seemed to come off easier. So Yes i could scrub crayon off the wall with no ill effects but in all honesty I'm not sure it was better than other paint.
  1. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why?
Yes i would - it is a good quality paint and goes on well, i like the recycled nature of the container and you can get marks off the painted walls .... not sure that 'easy clean' covers it as i felt i had to scrub a bit BUT marks definitely come off and leave it the surface as good as before.

Thanks for choosing me as a tester - i now have a lovely decorated room!

  1. What did you think of Crown easyclean paint?
Really liked it, easy to paint with and good range of colours. The consistency was quite thick so it didn’t splatter, I used crown paint years ago and disliked the consistency, this was much improved. It was also very low odour which was brilliant as I was painting on a very rainy day with windows just vented.
  1. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it?
Botanical Extract , a pale duck egg colour. I agree with pp that it isn’t that accurate on the colour card. I really like it, it’s very fresh.
  1. Was the paint easy to apply?
Yes, no problem with roller or brush although it does dry quickly.
  1. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean?
Yes, thanks to Dd kicking off some muddy trainers Hmm no colour transfer and looks fine. I’m sure this aspect will be fully tested in my household.
  1. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why?
Yes, it’s a good quality paint with excellent coverage. I was painting over a dark yellow with a much paler colour and managed with two coats. No paint stench and importantly for me it seems to stand up to rubbing off stuff well.

I’m chuffed with it, thanks Crown and Mumsnet for giving us the opportunity to be part of the testing.

Mine has still not arrived. I'm gutted as I was so excited to use it Sad

  1. What did you think of Crown easyclean paint?

It was good! We haven't used Crown before - normally we use Dulux and Valspar. Crown was as good as these brands which is fab. The paint was easy to apply and has a clean finish.

  1. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it?

Pure Brilliant White. Well it's white! It's good though, not a thin white so needed 2 coats rather than 3 (which the dulux trade white needs).

  1. Was the paint easy to apply?

Yes went on well with a roller and by brush.

  1. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean?

Well we actually painted a ceiling - wall colour hasn't been chosen yet! So we haven't really needed to wipe the paint. We have done a baby wipe test though with no paint removal.

  1. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why?

Yes I would, it went on easily and gives a nice finish. Covered up marks and filler well.

Pictures of before and after hopefully attached!

  1. not a strong odour and easy to apply. Dried quite quickly so had to be efficient in rollering it on. Definitely needed two coats to get the depth of colour.

  2. tested duck egg. Nice rich colour, pleased with it.

  3. the paint was easy to apply, it didn’t drip - seemed a good consistency.

  4. we have wiped a section of the wall and no colour came off, does what it promises

  5. yes if priced appropriately. I found the colour hard to decide on as there wasn’t a hugely extensive shade range (or maybe I’m just indecisive)! Paints on nicely and the selling point of wipe clean is accurate.

zippyants · 06/10/2020 18:59
  1. What did you think of Crown easyclean paint?

I really didn't think it would work as a 'cleanable' paint but it's great! I checked first on a wall we don't see that often. Left it to dry for 48 hours. Smudge with some dirt and left to dry again. Took a damp cloth to it and really scrubbed - it worked! Fab!

  1. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it?

Magnolia - just as magnolia should be. Warm. Clean. Great match for current magnolia too.

  1. Was the paint easy to apply?

Very. Vicosity just right in my humble opinion. And I am rubbish at painting! Looked like a pro job (imo :-) )

  1. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean?

Yes as mentioned above - great to wipe off. Left no visible marking at all.

  1. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why?

If you have kids - YES! If you have pets (especially frantic cocker spaniels that jump on walls..) YES!! Easy to paint on. Easy to wipe off grubby marks and dirt! Still looks fresh after much scrubbing. Very chuffed :-)

  1. What did you think of Crown easyclean paint?
Great paint. Loved the texture, ease of application and finish. Could have probably got away with one coat in places but used two coats to test it fully. Seemed less of an odour to it compared to other brands of paint. Does exactly what it says on the tin. Couldn’t really fault it.
  1. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it?
We tested East Village. Loved the colour. Perfect match to the swatch on the front and on the website. Couldn’t be happier with the colour for a hallway. Bright and light.
  1. Was the paint easy to apply?
Yes. Great consistency, not too thick or thin. Applied with a roller and couldn’t fault it.
  1. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean?
Yes. Our littlest was so kind as to draw on one of the hall walls a few days after painting- pencil came off easily without removing any paint. Paint looked as good as new after running with damp cloth. Brilliant.
  1. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why?
Definitely. I would recommend to anyone with small children or for use on walls With high traffic which are likely to get knocked or marked a lot e.g hallways. We will be purchasing another colour from this brand for our lounge for exactly this reason.
Catiinthehat · 06/10/2020 22:58

What did you think of Crown easyclean paint?

Very nice and consistent to apply. Low odour which was appreciated and it seemed to cover well.

  1. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it?
Spotlight, nice and neutral grey
  1. Was the paint easy to apply?
Yes very easy to apply, used a roller and it went on very easily.
  1. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean?
Yes. It wipes well without removing any paint. Amazing paint to have with kids as many other paints we found the paint came off when trying to wipe.
  1. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why?
Yes especially if you have young children. Dinner room, near dinner table, playroom is a must!
justoffshift · 07/10/2020 09:57
  1. What did you think of Crown easyclean paint?
A good all round paint with a useful twist.
  1. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it?
Clay white, a good off white colour.
  1. Was the paint easy to apply?
Yes my painter found it easy enough
  1. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean?
Yes we tried a small section with pencil, and wiped it clean without pain removal too.
  1. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why?
Good for parents of young children as it is so easy to remove marks, also areas with a lot of traffic and bikes up against walls, i.e. entrance halls in shared accom?
MerlinsBeard87 · 08/10/2020 20:26
  1. What did you think of Crown easyclean paint?
Nice paint with good coverage, dried quickly and no strong lingering smell. Wish there were more bright colour options to pick from.
  1. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it?
Midnight navy. I wanted something dark and bold instead of neutral. It went on over a bright pink wall and covered it well in 2 thin coats.
  1. Was the paint easy to apply?
Yes, looked good with a roller and brush.
  1. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean?
Tried wiping it and it holds up well.
  1. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why?
We normally use dulux but this was a great alternative. We used to find crown very thin so this is a clear improvement. I would definitely look for it again and recommend for soft shades. Hope they add in some more fun bright colours
Pumpkinhead · 09/10/2020 09:57

1. What did you think of Crown Easyclean paint?
Nice colour with good coverage and matt which was nice.

2. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it?
We tested Moonlight Bay and the colour was as expected and a nice shade of blue for my kids room.

3. Was the paint easy to apply?
Yes it was easy to apply with a brush but did need 2 coats. Dried fairly quickly too so that is good with kids in the house!

4. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean?

Yes and although there were no marks to wipe off it felt like they would be fairly easy to remove without the paint coming off too.

5. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why?
Yes I would. Will be great to wipe away dirty hand and feet marks in the kids room so that it stays fresh looking.

Itsalwayssunny · 09/10/2020 13:04

What did you think of Crown easyclean paint?
Easy to use. Didn't seem to splash much. It needed two coats to look how we wanted.

  1. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it?
Sage green, it was lovely.
  1. Was the paint easy to apply?
Yes. Really easy. My only comment is it dried quite quickly so you had to he quick with going over with the roller.
  1. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean?
Yes, and it worked! It's in our hallway which is a high traffic area so will be great!
  1. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why?
Yes, dependant on the price. It's got a nice finish, and it is really useful that it can be wiped clean.
PickledChicory · 09/10/2020 16:19

Crown paint is dreadful...always on offer ....its rubbish !

WeMustDoBetter · 10/10/2020 14:43
  1. What did you think of Crown easyclean paint?

Really liked it. It went on easily, wasn’t messy at all and is a really bright fresh colour.

  1. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it?

Sunrise, which is a very cheerful yellow, perfect for the tiny room it was used in.

  1. Was the paint easy to apply?

Very. I used a brush and it went on easily and dried quickly.

  1. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean?

I gave it a test and the colour didn’t wipe off.

  1. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why?

Absolutely. I painted most of my house during lockdown and I wish I’d used this paint as it was so much easier to use and didn’t drip.

EncroachingLoaf · 10/10/2020 20:00
  1. What did you think of Crown easyclean paint?

I liked using it and would use it again but the only downside for me is the colour variety. There are LOADS of very similar neutral colours that aren't really my thing and not many vibrant and darker colours. I'd love more choice of greens, blues and pinks personally.

  1. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it?

Botanical extract. It is a subtle fresh colour that has really lifted and brightened up my dining room. I'm not sure if it is really a green, more a greyish blue but all the family really like the colour.

  1. Was the paint easy to apply?

I found it really easy to use with both a roller and brush. It is very thick so doesn't drip at all and goes on well. I needed two coats to cover a strong colour underneath which isn't bad. I also like that it can be used on wood as I plan to paint my storage cupboard door once sanded so it will blend with the wall.

  1. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean?

I was worried about doing this due to past experiences with so called scrubbable paint but I tried it with pencil which came off after wiping with a wet cloth. I was impressed that none of the paint came off when scrubbing too.

  1. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why?

Yes as it is very easy to use and good value. It is definitely better quality than some other big brand paints I have used recently that were also more expensive than Crown.

rennie1811 · 10/10/2020 20:36
  1. What did you think of Crown easyclean paint? Really smooth to apply, consistency was great, lots of colours to choose from, felt like I was using a quality product.
  2. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it? We tested powder blue, we thought it was a lovely shade, not overpowering but bright enough to make a good impact.
  3. Was the paint easy to apply? Very easy to apply, the consistency was great.
  4. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean? Yes, it was great, the paint stayed on the wall as it should do.
  5. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why? Absolutely, it is a great paint, easy to apply, quick drying, a high quality paint.

  1. What did you think of Crown easyclean paint?
The paint is great quality, very easy to apply with no brush marks, doesn't drip, excellent coverage. No odour at all. I haven't even put a second coat on yet but it looks fine.
  1. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it?

I chose Moonlight Bay, and I do like the colour, but it looks a bit different with artificial lights. I will probably use it in a different room with more natural light, because I am not too sure about it. I am a bit picky with colours and I was disappointed the range didn't have more choices, especially with blues. I didn't really love any of them.

  1. Was the paint easy to apply?
Very easy to apply. I used a brush and a small roller, and I found the result much better than other brands.
  1. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean?
Yes I have, and it doesn't come off like other paints do, which is a big plus for me.
  1. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why?
I would definitely recommend for people with children or for high usage areas, but the colour range is a bit of an issue. I think it's ideal for neutrals.
hootatoot · 11/10/2020 13:53

1.What did you think of Crown easyclean paint?
I thought it was a bit of a thin consistency when I opened it and stirred it initially but it went on well and coverage was good.

  1. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it?
I tested creme de la rose and I love it. It's a lovely light English garden rose pink (if that's a thing?! It's what it makes me think of anyway)
  1. Was the paint easy to apply?
Yes, it went on well
  1. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean?
No, I only finished painting yesterday and the tin says to allow 7 days for full durability to develop so don't want to wipe it and risk ribbing it off!
  1. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why?
Yes, if it does what it says as in it wipes clean! I'm hopeful it lives up to its claims because my children are feral and love to pain their body parts then wander through the house to the downstairs loo to wash their hands....that's the room I've painted.
freshcoatofpaint · 11/10/2020 14:31

1. What did you think of Crown easyclean paint?
Loved it. I've not used any Crown products before.

2. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it?
Picnic Blanket. It's a nice earthy brown and I'm pleased with it. It makes the room have a nice neutral, but warm, look.

3. Was the paint easy to apply?
Very. I used a roller for most of it and a good quality brush for the edges. It went on really easily but I agree with previous posters that it definitely dries very quickly compared to other brands I've used, so you need to watch for that.

4. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean?
I painted the woodwork afterwards and had a couple of white smudges, which wiped off easily with a damp cloth leaving no marks.

5. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why?
Yes, it goes on well and wipes clean.

Thank you for the trial 😁
