This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnet users who have been testing the new Emma Cot Mattress.

At the same time as giving their feedback on this thread, testers completed a survey on their experience with the Emma Cot Mattress. Following 97% saying they would recommend to a friend or family member, the mattress has been awarded the Mumsnet Rated badge.

Here’s what Emma has to say: “Our Cot Mattress was created with your little one in mind. Using only the highest-quality and safest materials possible, our mattress masterminds dreamed up something incredibly special: Its firm surface helps promote healthy bone development, while the breathable materials help keep your child cool and comfortable. We're confident that this is the best cot mattress around - we love it. Try it, and let us know if you do too!”

Testers, please give your feedback by answering the following questions, as well as sharing any other thoughts you have. Please also ensure you complete the short survey we’ve emailed you.

  1. What was your overall impression of the Emma Cot Mattress?
  2. What would you say are the top three features of the Emma Cot Mattress?
  3. If you washed and replaced the cot mattress cover, how easy did you find this? If you didn’t, how important is this feature to you?

All testers who give their feedback on both this thread and by completing the survey will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £50 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

Hello,

  1. What was your overall impression of the Emma Cot Mattress?

Really good. My son has been sleeping much better - he falls asleep more quickly and doesn't wake up as often. Not sure if that is a coincidence! I was expecting the mattress to be heavy like his previous one, but it was really light. I was easily able to move it around on my own.

  1. What would you say are the top three features of the Emma Cot Mattress?

I like that it is comfortable firm, in comparison to the previous mattress. I was worried that my son would be too hot as we have had this with our previous mattress, and he hasn't woken up sweaty since despite the heatwave. I also like that it is reversible.

  1. If you washed and replaced the cot mattress cover, how easy did you find this? If you didn’t, how important is this feature to you?

I didn't wash it but I did try to take the cover off, which was simple to do. Being able to easily remove and put the cover back on, as being able to wash it, is really important in case of accidents.

The email communication from Emma was good letting me know that the order was put through and keeping me informed of the expected delivery date. It was very well packaged in a box rolled up. When I opened the mattress, it went out flat immediately and for me there was no smell, but we did air it out for a day just in case. My only slight criticism is customer service - I had a question around whether the mattress has a top side and the bottom side as the pictures in the booklet suggested that there were three layers inside the mattress, and I wasn't sure which one is supposed to be on top. I couldn't find a phone number to ring, couldn't find an answer in the FAQs, and when I sent a message on the Facebook chat they emailed back a generic response around rotating the mattress on a regular basis.

Nevertheless, I would still recommend buying it as I can see it is superior to the previous mattress and my son sleeps so much better.

. What was your overall impression of the Emma Cot Mattress?
It looked and felt extremely good quality. Far superior in its appearance and feel compared to our big standard cot mattress.

  1. What would you say are the top three features of the Emma Cot Mattress?
Comfort, it feels lovely Removable cover great for quick washes Appearance, it looks great
  1. If you washed and replaced the cot mattress cover, how easy did you find this? If you didn’t, how important is this
I washed it twice to see how it endured. I line dried it and dried it indoors. It's easy to remove and put back and dries reasonably quickly.

Overall I was impressed by the mattress. My daughter is not a great sleeper, and it's probably a happy coincidence, but we did have 2 nights full sleep in the past week.
Apologies Mumsnet HO for this late feedback. I completed the survey last week but I lost track of time for this.

Hi,

Can anyone advise me of really good state high schools that put an on emphasis on sport? I’m looking to move to a different area after living in a village in Leicestershire for nearly 13 years. I’m originally from NZ and to be honest, I haven’t enjoyed living where I have at all, for many reasons.
Next year my daughter is due to be starting high school and I feel that this could be the time to move.
Both my kids are very sporty. The eldest (who is going to high school next year) does athletics, horse riding, netball and ballet. My youngest loves football. I’m finding that their current primary school lacks sport and I’m wondering if this a nationwide issue or whether it’s just the particular school they are at.

I would love any advice or information.

Thanks so much. X

If it’s anything like the adult hybrid - appalling
But what’s worse is the return process. Such a palaver and I’m still waiting my refund

Waytoomuch82 · 13/08/2020 06:35

And the smell of the mattress when I unfolded still haunts me!

Changingagain · 13/08/2020 10:19
  1. What was your overall impression of the Emma Cot Mattress?

It feels very comfy, firm but soft. As soon as I unpacked it, my very active 4 year old was trying to curl up on it. When I got it off him and into the cot, it was a perfect fit with no gaps at the ends, unlike our previous one.
There was a problem with delivery so we've only used it for two nights so far but they've been very hot and uncomfortable nights, and our 1 year old has slept perfectly! So I would say she approves.

  1. What would you say are the top three features of the Emma Cot Mattress?

-being made with safe, breathable materials.
-being firm but comfortable.
-being easy to clean.

  1. If you washed and replaced the cot mattress cover, how easy did you find this? If you didn’t, how important is this feature to you?

We've not had to yet, but I know from our older child that matress protectors aren't always enough, especially when it comes to toilet training. Therefore I see it as a very important feature.

libertysilk · 13/08/2020 14:11

What was your overall impression of the Emma Cot Mattress? Overall impression is very well made and like the outer cover that can be washed.

  1. What would you say are the top three features of the Emma Cot Mattress? Comfortable, removable washable cover, size, suitable for cot bed or standard size.
  2. If you washed and replaced the cot mattress cover, how easy did you find this? If you didn’t, how important is this feature to you? Didn't wash as yet, but, this is extremely important.

One downside, which hasn't been asked for is the delivery. It took over a week to come, and no prior notice, apart from the day before that it was being delivered. For such a quality mattress with a reputable company, it really let's them down. What if I'd been out or made plans when delivery was scheduled? Surely, as other companies do, they could allocate a specific delivery date?

pinkpetal2 · 22/08/2020 17:42

These aren't for sale yet are they yet I've seen a few go up on EBay. Shock

Have you all just received the below email? I binned the old mattress and only have this!

I've posted on site stuff.

Hello,

We are writing to you in reference to the immediate product recall of the Emma Cot Mattress, which you received as part of a Mumsnet product test earlier this year.

We would firstly like to assure you that all of our Emma products undergo rigorous testing and quality assurance checks before they are made available for customers to purchase. While the Emma Cot Mattress passed these internal and external tests, we learnt that during an independent examination conducted by Which? Consumer Association the width of the Emma Cot Mattress expanded by 0.5cm more than the allowed standard for baby mattresses. This test standard is a voluntary standard used by Which? to test products.

As a precautionary measure we have decided to recall the Emma Cot Mattress. We also want to confirm to you that no complaints or concerns have been reported to date regarding the Emma Cot Mattress.

At Emma, we pride ourselves on delivering high quality products that people can trust, and while this recall is not legally mandated, we believe that it is the correct decision. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience or disappointment this might cause and hope that you can understand our decision to err on the side of caution in this instance.

What’s next:

We advise ceasing the use of your Emma Cot Mattress immediately or at the earliest. We are happy to collect your item free of charge. Once collected, we will dispose of the mattress.

To begin the process of having your Emma Cot mattress collected, please send an email to [email protected]. Our courier partner will then contact you in the next 2-5 working days to arrange a suitable time and date for collection.

If you have any questions, please send an email to [email protected]. Our Customer Support team will gladly help you with any questions or queries you might have.

Thank you for your cooperation and once again, we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

BostonFern · 08/12/2020 13:14

@icedaisy I’ve just seen the email, and also no longer have the old mattress (given it’s now four months since we stopped using it!). I’ve emailed Emma and will see what they say about the recall.

pinkpetal2 · 08/12/2020 13:28

I’m really annoyed about this I can’t afford to replace the mattress I’ll have to send back at all. I know it was free but Christ what a time to recall it.

FurryScoob · 08/12/2020 13:37

I emailed to ask for more details.
My 3 year old uses the mattress on a toddler bed so as it’s just a case of the mattress being 0.5cm too big I’ve decided to keep it. He can’t get stuck between the cot frame & the mattress because the bed doesn’t have a frame on 3 sides.

icedaisy · 08/12/2020 13:39

Thanks all.

Yes the timings shocking. As I've said in my post in site stuff I cannot get a mattress today or any time soon.

I cannot believe they haven't offered a replacement.

I will email as well.

BostonFern · 08/12/2020 14:02

Just got a reply to my email. No replacement on offer, will only collect the recalled product. Not great having to buy a new mattress before Christmas. I had been considering buying an Emma mattress for myself in the future, but don’t think I will now!

icedaisy · 08/12/2020 14:11

@BostonFern ok will see what they say to me. Like @FurryScoob Dd is over two but no option to keep at moment?

There was only 30 of us.

I would never had got rid of old one if I knew any future issue was my responsibility. There's nothing in the terms and conditions for insight saying that either.

I'm really annoyed about this and the timing.

FurryScoob · 08/12/2020 14:17

@icedaisy it’s a voluntary recall so it’s up to you if you stop using it & send it back.
Being 5mm to wide doesn’t effect it’s use on my sons toddler bed & he really has slept so much better on it than the old mattress so I’m happy to keep using it at my own risk

ItsJustASimpleLine · 08/12/2020 14:37

I was really surprised a replacement wasn't offered. I agree shocking timing and everyone will have got rid of old mattresses.

Its poor customer service but I understand that it is a voluntary recall not compulsory

icedaisy · 08/12/2020 14:44

Hmmm.

Is that because the recall is not legally forced?

Because it says immediate product recall and it doesn't mention keeping it. Talks about side of caution etc.

Not an area I'm overly familiar with.

Not the best customer service either way. Nothing from them or HQ yet to me.

PolytheneHam · 09/12/2020 22:21

Has anyone else had a message saying that these are being recalled??

PolytheneHam · 09/12/2020 22:22

Ah, I didn't read to the end. I'm very frustrated. We scrapped our old mattress, and we're not in a position to replace it with a quality item, especially just before Christmas.

icedaisy · 10/12/2020 07:40

@PolytheneHam same. Waiting to hear from HQ. Will update when I hear.

PolytheneHam · 10/12/2020 08:36

Thanks icedaisy. So far I've just ignored the email.

Ihoeihoeihoe · 10/12/2020 10:34

I spoke to someone yesterday and this is the reply I got after explaining I wasn’t eligible for a refund as I didn’t pay for the mattress.

‘I'm sorry for the mix-up on my end and I apologise for the inconvenience. I'm afraid that we have decided to cease production of the cot mattress entirely following the news and would not be able to provide a replacement as we would not want to subject our customers to any potential risks. If there is anything else I can assist you with or answer, please let me know and I will assist you.’

My argument was that I don’t expect a refund for an item I didn’t pay for, but as ‘product testers’ were in the position of keep it when they’ve deemed it unsafe enough to stop production or return it 2 weeks before Christmas. Now lumbered in the ‘not my problem’ category and no responses

Firewall · 10/12/2020 11:38

It is such a shame. Awful timing and with the year, even a replacement mattress of single size would be better than nothing or a voucher of good will. :(

Hellotheresweet · 10/12/2020 11:43

The customer service is absolutely dire
