This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnet users who have been testing the new Emma Cot Mattress.

At the same time as giving their feedback on this thread, testers completed a survey on their experience with the Emma Cot Mattress. Following 97% saying they would recommend to a friend or family member, the mattress has been awarded the Mumsnet Rated badge.

Here’s what Emma has to say: “Our Cot Mattress was created with your little one in mind. Using only the highest-quality and safest materials possible, our mattress masterminds dreamed up something incredibly special: Its firm surface helps promote healthy bone development, while the breathable materials help keep your child cool and comfortable. We're confident that this is the best cot mattress around - we love it. Try it, and let us know if you do too!”

Testers, please give your feedback by answering the following questions, as well as sharing any other thoughts you have. Please also ensure you complete the short survey we’ve emailed you.

  1. What was your overall impression of the Emma Cot Mattress?
  2. What would you say are the top three features of the Emma Cot Mattress?
  3. If you washed and replaced the cot mattress cover, how easy did you find this? If you didn’t, how important is this feature to you?

All testers who give their feedback on both this thread and by completing the survey will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £50 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

I have no issue with the mattress and find the 5mm a positive as I'm sure many said in their feedback (though we weren't to know then that it was too big according to blah blah blah that I care not a jot about!) my daughter sleeps well on it and I'm extremely happy with it and all it's features (including the size!) so I will be keeping it. I emailed Emma and they said that's fine but reiterated that their advice is to cease and destroy which is a legality from their point of view.
As I was a tester I feel grateful to be lucky enough to have been selected in the first place. I have already recommended the brand and my family members who have bought an Emma mattress and very happy with their mattresses too.

I’m sure for a few it’s not an issue, I donated my old mattress as it was quite new, thinking I wouldn’t need another. Now stuck as to whether to use this until after Christmas as that’s when I’ll have the extra cash to buy one that’s not the cheapest piece of crap out there

Report
icedaisy · 10/12/2020 11:54

@Ihoeihoeihoe same.

Plus destroyed mine so that's the loss.

What about if it was the Tripp trap chair. How many would have kept their high chair.

Also insight t and c say our email will only be used for dispatch and destroyed. Surely this should be coming via mumsnet PM only?

Still nothing from HQ.

The customer service is absolutely dire

It is such a shame. Awful timing and with the year, even a replacement mattress of single size would be better than nothing or a voucher of good will. :(

I spoke to someone yesterday and this is the reply I got after explaining I wasn’t eligible for a refund as I didn’t pay for the mattress.

‘I'm sorry for the mix-up on my end and I apologise for the inconvenience. I'm afraid that we have decided to cease production of the cot mattress entirely following the news and would not be able to provide a replacement as we would not want to subject our customers to any potential risks. If there is anything else I can assist you with or answer, please let me know and I will assist you.’

My argument was that I don’t expect a refund for an item I didn’t pay for, but as ‘product testers’ were in the position of keep it when they’ve deemed it unsafe enough to stop production or return it 2 weeks before Christmas. Now lumbered in the ‘not my problem’ category and no responses

@PolytheneHam same. Waiting to hear from HQ. Will update when I hear.

PolytheneHam · 09/12/2020 22:22

Ah, I didn't read to the end. I'm very frustrated. We scrapped our old mattress, and we're not in a position to replace it with a quality item, especially just before Christmas.

Report
PolytheneHam · 09/12/2020 22:21

Has anyone else had a message saying that these are being recalled??

Report
icedaisy · 08/12/2020 14:44

Hmmm.

Is that because the recall is not legally forced?

Because it says immediate product recall and it doesn't mention keeping it. Talks about side of caution etc.

Not an area I'm overly familiar with.

Not the best customer service either way. Nothing from them or HQ yet to me.

ItsJustASimpleLine · 08/12/2020 14:37

I was really surprised a replacement wasn't offered. I agree shocking timing and everyone will have got rid of old mattresses.

Its poor customer service but I understand that it is a voluntary recall not compulsory

Report
FurryScoob · 08/12/2020 14:17

@icedaisy it’s a voluntary recall so it’s up to you if you stop using it & send it back.
Being 5mm to wide doesn’t effect it’s use on my sons toddler bed & he really has slept so much better on it than the old mattress so I’m happy to keep using it at my own risk

Report
icedaisy · 08/12/2020 14:11

@BostonFern ok will see what they say to me. Like @FurryScoob Dd is over two but no option to keep at moment?

There was only 30 of us.

I would never had got rid of old one if I knew any future issue was my responsibility. There's nothing in the terms and conditions for insight saying that either.

I'm really annoyed about this and the timing.

Report
BostonFern · 08/12/2020 14:02

Just got a reply to my email. No replacement on offer, will only collect the recalled product. Not great having to buy a new mattress before Christmas. I had been considering buying an Emma mattress for myself in the future, but don’t think I will now!

Report
icedaisy · 08/12/2020 13:39

Thanks all.

Yes the timings shocking. As I've said in my post in site stuff I cannot get a mattress today or any time soon.

I cannot believe they haven't offered a replacement.

I will email as well.

Report
FurryScoob · 08/12/2020 13:37

I emailed to ask for more details.
My 3 year old uses the mattress on a toddler bed so as it’s just a case of the mattress being 0.5cm too big I’ve decided to keep it. He can’t get stuck between the cot frame & the mattress because the bed doesn’t have a frame on 3 sides.

Report
pinkpetal2 · 08/12/2020 13:28

I’m really annoyed about this I can’t afford to replace the mattress I’ll have to send back at all. I know it was free but Christ what a time to recall it.

Report
BostonFern · 08/12/2020 13:14

@icedaisy I’ve just seen the email, and also no longer have the old mattress (given it’s now four months since we stopped using it!). I’ve emailed Emma and will see what they say about the recall.

Have you all just received the below email? I binned the old mattress and only have this!

I've posted on site stuff.

Hello,

We are writing to you in reference to the immediate product recall of the Emma Cot Mattress, which you received as part of a Mumsnet product test earlier this year.

We would firstly like to assure you that all of our Emma products undergo rigorous testing and quality assurance checks before they are made available for customers to purchase. While the Emma Cot Mattress passed these internal and external tests, we learnt that during an independent examination conducted by Which? Consumer Association the width of the Emma Cot Mattress expanded by 0.5cm more than the allowed standard for baby mattresses. This test standard is a voluntary standard used by Which? to test products.

As a precautionary measure we have decided to recall the Emma Cot Mattress. We also want to confirm to you that no complaints or concerns have been reported to date regarding the Emma Cot Mattress.

At Emma, we pride ourselves on delivering high quality products that people can trust, and while this recall is not legally mandated, we believe that it is the correct decision. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience or disappointment this might cause and hope that you can understand our decision to err on the side of caution in this instance.

What’s next:

We advise ceasing the use of your Emma Cot Mattress immediately or at the earliest. We are happy to collect your item free of charge. Once collected, we will dispose of the mattress.

To begin the process of having your Emma Cot mattress collected, please send an email to [email protected]. Our courier partner will then contact you in the next 2-5 working days to arrange a suitable time and date for collection.

If you have any questions, please send an email to [email protected]. Our Customer Support team will gladly help you with any questions or queries you might have.

Thank you for your cooperation and once again, we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

What was your overall impression of the Emma Cot Mattress? Overall impression is very well made and like the outer cover that can be washed.

  1. What would you say are the top three features of the Emma Cot Mattress? Comfortable, removable washable cover, size, suitable for cot bed or standard size.
  2. If you washed and replaced the cot mattress cover, how easy did you find this? If you didn’t, how important is this feature to you? Didn't wash as yet, but, this is extremely important.

One downside, which hasn't been asked for is the delivery. It took over a week to come, and no prior notice, apart from the day before that it was being delivered. For such a quality mattress with a reputable company, it really let's them down. What if I'd been out or made plans when delivery was scheduled? Surely, as other companies do, they could allocate a specific delivery date?

  1. What was your overall impression of the Emma Cot Mattress?

It feels very comfy, firm but soft. As soon as I unpacked it, my very active 4 year old was trying to curl up on it. When I got it off him and into the cot, it was a perfect fit with no gaps at the ends, unlike our previous one.
There was a problem with delivery so we've only used it for two nights so far but they've been very hot and uncomfortable nights, and our 1 year old has slept perfectly! So I would say she approves.

  1. What would you say are the top three features of the Emma Cot Mattress?

-being made with safe, breathable materials.
-being firm but comfortable.
-being easy to clean.

  1. If you washed and replaced the cot mattress cover, how easy did you find this? If you didn’t, how important is this feature to you?

We've not had to yet, but I know from our older child that matress protectors aren't always enough, especially when it comes to toilet training. Therefore I see it as a very important feature.

But what’s worse is the return process. Such a palaver and I’m still waiting my refund
